Rumour only file ...
Iâm wondering whether the fact that weâre hearing rumours about ANB and and AVB being mentioned as trade possibilities that the club has given up the idea of moving Tom McDonald on but still wanting to make more salary cap room available for a further trade?

It took ninety-one hours after the last deal was done for the trade period to emerge from hibernation for the first of the dayâs trade deals to be announced and shock horror, Dodoro was involved. The player traded was 2 metre Peter who once was a #8 draft pick for the Suns who didnât play a game in 2020 and was duly dispatched to the Bombers for a future fourth rounder. Then followed three deals that involved the trade stars of the day - the Melbourne Football Club. Take a bow, Josh Mahoney, even if the Roos are holding up the big trade for Ben Brown. The final deal was a three way deal that involved a fellow Demon. The day ended with most of the big deals still to be done and we wait on tomorrow or Thursday to learn the fate of likes of Treloar, Cameron, Dunkley, Saad and, of course, Brown. The big news is that Adam Treloar has spoken with the Bulldogs and had a medical there (late news suggesting the medical wasnât great) while his Collingwood teammate Jaidyn Stephenson is in talks with North Melbourne about his future. GWS and Geelong are still haggling over the number of first round picks required to get him to Corio Bay. And Dodoro still has many balls hanging in the air. Todayâs deals ~ ⢠Peter Wright to Essendon for a future fourth-round pick to the Suns ⢠The Crows traded their No.33 selection and 50 to the Demons this year for Melbourne's future second-round and future fourth-round selection ⢠Melbourne has traded Mitch Hannan to the Western Bulldogs for its future third round draft pick. ⢠Melbourne has traded Braydon Preuss to GWS Giants for pick 31 ⢠In a 3 way deal, Stefan Martin was traded to the Western Bulldogs and Lachie Young ended up at North Melbourne. Brisbane traded Pick 70 to North Melbourne, which gave Pick 63 to the Lions. And the beat goes on ...

Farewell Braydon Preuss
Moving his contract off our books will also help us a little.

AFL trades: Tom McDonald wonât be part of Ben Brown deal âHe does have some interest from Essendon. Having said that, Adrian (Dodoro) has a lot of balls up in the air. I would think Tom sits (behind the other deals). Sometimes it just takes one deal, the Adam Saad or (Jeremy Cameron) deal and the dominoes start to fallâ. Alex McDonald - Tomâs manager. Well, that explains a lot.

The trade period is becoming a time of rejection. Players and teams are rejecting each other even though, in some cases, theyâre contractually bound together for another year or two or four. Clubs are rejecting offers from other clubs and, as a consequence, the days end with little achieved on the surface. We know that will change by 7.30 pm on Thursday evening but for now, we mostly wait as we always do on Essendonâs Adrian Dodoro. While a number of potential deals surrounding the Essendon Football Club remain in limbo and one â Orazio Fantasiaâs move to Port Adelaideâs â may be about to fall apart, St Kilda seems to be pressing its claims as the competitionâs home of choice to players on the move. Todayâs big news was Jack Higginsâ request for a trade from Richmond to St Kilda. And apart from that ...

Jack Higgins
Jack Higgins has officially requested a trade and wants to join St Kilda.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
The most likely outcome for Oscar is that one of the clubs will him as a delisted free agent.

AFL TRADE, DRAFT AND FREE AGENCY DATES 2020
Iâve now been told that itâs 7.30pm on Thursday.

AFL Trade Radio
Now Sam Edmund saying that Essendon has emerged as the latest potential suiter for the out of favour Melbourne forward, Tom McDonald. The Bombers have registered their interest and are canvassing their options to soften the blow of Joe Daniher's departure.

AFL Trade Radio
AFL Trade Radio reporting that Tom McDonald is not on Gold Coast's radar. Seems that heâs not on anyoneâs radar at present and if so, we have to manage our list and our trading on the presumption that we keep him.

AFL TRADE, DRAFT AND FREE AGENCY DATES 2020
In the past theyâve turned off the fax machines at 2.00pm but who knows in 2020? The clubs still donât know about list sizes and the salary cap limit going forward which is a bit of a surprise given that the (usually) loudest club Collingwood has the most at stake in that decision.

And, as day 3 of the trade period comes slowly to an end, hereâs my summary of the activity:- * the only deal reported for the day involved the Demons. Melbourne has exchanged its third round pick (currently 53) and a future third round pick, for draft selection 43 (third round) and a future fourth. The rest was commentary and that is all folks.

Rumour only file ...
So we donât like Rohan and weâre not getting Martin. Thatâs a real laugh in (and unless you were around in the early 70s you simply wonât get this).
-
AFL Trade Radio
I understand that the Lions are planning to only use two picks at the draft. Their third selection overall would be a rookie upgrade. Hence they donât need pick 43 and will use 53 for that purpose. No brainer from their POV and a win for both clubs.

Stunning trade done by the Demons ~ The Brisbane Lions trade Round 3 (43) and its Future Round 4 2021 Selection to Melbourne for its Round 3 (53) and a Future Round 3 2021 Selection. Brilliant (if only I could work out what it means. ?

Where are they now? John Gallus
Actually, there were a few errors in the article eg. in 1966, John Beckwith wasn't Melbourne's coach - Norm Smith was reinstated after being sacked in 1965 (missed one game) and remained coach until the end of 1967. Beckwith replaced him in 1968. As to that opening game of 1971, it was a massive start to the season and I still can't work out how we missed out in the end. It was a fall from grace only matched by 1965 when we were 8-0 in the year after Barassi left to coach Carlton (I've always maintained that if Barassi had stayed at the club we would have easily made the finals in 1965).

Agree - any future personal stuff will be deleted and other sanctions may also be applied. That applies anywhere on this site but on this thread ... please stick to the facts or fiction relating to rumours.

Where are they now? John Gallus
Persistence is the story of John Gallus. He did it tough in his younger days and, as a teenager from Drouin, he fought to gain a clearance to Melbourne but when the opportunity finally came, he couldnât break into the reigning premiership in 1965. He eventually crossed over to Waverley VFA in 1966 and then played in the country before he was finally tempted to try again in 1971 at the age of 25. He made his debut in the opening round and kicked three goals in the teamâs massive win against South Melbourne. This is his story ~ Almanac Footy: John Gallus â The journey through football

Jack Higgins
Jack Higgins seems to have been off the radar a little according to Tim Watson on SEN this morning: "What interests me most is why there aren't more clubs, and maybe there are, but why there are not more clubs that are really desperately keen to try and secure his services, like Melbourne." I saw him and an entourage of helpers training at a park near my place last summer and he was putting in a lot of hard yards to get fit after his brain surgery. It was quite an achievement for him to get back into senior footy when you have such a health scare. Question is whether it remains a concern for recruiters and whether someoneâs willing to take a risk.

TMac on the Trade Table?
- AFL Trade Radio
The second day of the trade period is an almost nothing day and, true to form, almost nothing happened. The biggest news of the day was that the only deal done was the trade of Kyle Hartigan from the Adelaide Crowd to Hawthorn for a future fourth round pick. In draft terms, thatâs about the lowest level of currency you can get. That left the various commentators on AFL Trade Radio with plenty of time to discuss the futures of Jeremy Cameron, Josh Dunkley and Adam Treloar and some of lesser lights who are currently homeless, the sum total of such discussions amounting to almost nothing.- Vale Blair Campbell
Former Demon, Blair Campbell, who played 12 games and kicked 23 goals from a half forward flank in 1969 has passed away. Campbell, who joined the club from Richmond, was credited with inventing the banana kick. He played the one season for the club and retired after injuring his knee but went on to a long career in Shield Cricket as a crafty wrist spinner who was also a handy late order batsman. Condolences to the family.- AFL Trade Radio
The Done Deals today - ⢠West Coast acquires Zac Langdon in a trade. GWS receives the Eaglesâ third-round pick ⢠Gold Coast acquires Oleg Markov in a trade. Richmond receives the Sunsâ 2021 third-round pick ⢠GWS acquires Jesse Hogan in a trade. Fremantle receives the Eaglesâ third-round pic - AFL Trade Radio
