2011 Player Review - # 43 Tom McDonald
It was said elsewhere that we can fit four of the following five in defence:- Frawley Garland Rivers T McDonald Davis That being the case, the fact that Tom McDonald was grouped with the forwards is of interest. He came to the club as a ruckman/forward but looked very much at home this year in defence. Does he have what it takes to hold down a key forward spot?

I'm very disappointed in Redleg. Last night during the massive rainstorm on the Coast we found shelter at Baskin & Robbins and they have a special on their banana ice cream. Redleg declined to partake. Not only that but he reckons he's also going to pass on the opportunity to watch Brad Green skipper the Aussies in Friday night's IR game against Ireland. That means he also misses out on seeing James Frawley and the best and most honest footballer to come out of the 2009 national draft Jack Trengove.

Close but no cigar. Actually $7.95 per kilo down there. My highlight on the coast so far came when I picked up my copy of today's HUN and there, on the front page was a snap of the unmentionable one in charcoal and orange drag on top of a headline that screamed out, "Rats in our ranks". OK, the story under the headline had nothing to do with the little bugger but it made my day.

Like a few others I'm a huge 49ers fan. I visited the place in the late 80s when they were going through their golden era and it cost huge $'s to go to Candlestick Park. I believe they're traveling well for the first time in ages with a new coach who has problems with his opposition counterparts shaking hands after games.

I remember going with a few mates to a dance called Penthouse in North Road, Ormond when the great Laurie Allen and Bobby Bright were on the bill. It was 1964 and the pair were popular artists on the The Go!! Show as well as a couple of popular music programmes emanating from the Channel 2 studios at Ripponlea. To use the modern vernacular, the night of the dance was "massive". Hundreds of screaming young girls turned up and they outnumbered us males by 5:1. We thought, "how good is this?" Problem was that when Bobby & Laurie were done, so were the chicks. For the rest of the night the males outnumbered the females 5:1 and alas, the three shillings spent on entry went down the toilet. On reflection, it was a pretty good time. The Demons were on a roll, virtually invincible and on our way to a premiership flag, we could safely hitchhike wherever we wanted to go and we were young and free. What a time it was!
