  1. Somewhat intrigued so I checked up what the coach of the SA Under 18s said about him. ”He’s a gun and an unbelievable character. He’s too good not to be at an AFL club next year. When he’s fit he’s as good as Thilthorpe and Jones.” - SA under-18 coach Tony Bamford A player with 2 ACLs before he turns 18 is something of a risk but the upside appears enormous. Who dares wins!
  2. So, essentially - * 3 picks in the national draft * 1 rookie selection and * if KK is put on the long term injury list then the club can list a player as a Pre-Season Supplemental Selection. This is for players who can be added to our summer training squad from 6 January, 2021.
  3. Appears that all now signed up including Toby Bedford. We’re one big happy family. Off-Season Central: Melbourne release raft of contract news
  4. Good question. I think that Cat B’s can be nominated to remain as a rookie for a third season and contracted at that time. Aaron Neitzke is also not contracted but can be drafted in the rookie draft and then contracted.
  5. The Cleary article indicates that Toby Bedford is our only uncontracted player and that a few others who the club has yet to confirm, have in fact signed new contracts.
  6. This article on who gets an AFL lifeline states that “Melbourne has re-signed a number of players it is yet to make public including Mitch Brown, Jay Lockhart, Kade Chandler and James Jordon,” and suggests that Toby Bedford is our only player currently in limbo.
  7. The pundits are saying that about 50 players will be selected in the national draft on December 9. This item from AFL Draft Central should have most, if not all, of them covered. The Draft Pool
  8. The rules for the second tier competition are absurd. Apart from anything else, they should be the same as the AFL for the benefit of players who go up and down between the competitions.
  9. Would help if someone could come up with some vision of him playing so we could work it out ourselves. Anybody?
  10. So am I correct in saying that Bedford, Jordan, Chandler (® A), Lockhart (® A) and Bradtke (® B) are uncontracted at present. What is the list lodgement cut off day for them to be contracted? Today or next Friday?
  11. Former Magpies director David Galbally, AM QC calls for a major “clean out” at the top citing the salary cap blow out drama, the recruitment of Dayne Beams, the Heritier Lumumba racism inquiry and a string of player misconduct issues and also points to a longstanding culture and governance problem. Top lawyer David Galbally calls for Eddie McGuire to end two-decade reign as Collingwood president
  12. Appears to be in some order of likely draft selection. I’d say that most of the first 20 listed will be outside our reach.
  13. This is the list of players covered in the article with their positions ~ Jamarra Ugle-Hagan Multiple Logan McDonald Forward Riley Thilthorpe Multiple Denver Grainger-Barras Defender Elijah Hollands Multiple Braeden Campbell Midfielder Will Phillips Midfielder Lachlan Jones Defender Tanner Bruhn Midfielder Archie Perkins Multiple Alex Davies Midfielder Zach Reid Defender Oliver Henry Forward Finlay Macrae Multiple Brayden Cook Forward Heath Chapman Defender Joel Jeffrey Multiple Tom Powell Midfielder Caleb Poulter Midfielder Nathan O'Driscoll Midfielder Errol Gulden Multiple Reef McInnes Multiple Nikolas Cox Multiple Jack Carroll Midfielder Jake Bowey Midfielder Luke Edwards Multiple Connor Downie Multiple Bailey Laurie Multiple Zane Trew Midfielder Zac Dumesny Multiple Sam Berry Midfielder Cody Brand Defender Blake Coleman Forward Brandon Walker Defender Isiah Winder Multiple Conor Stone Forward James Borlase Defender Joel Western Midfielder Henry Walsh Ruck Charlie Ham Defender Tariek Newchurch Multiple Seamus Mitchell Multiple Kaine Baldwin Forward Zavier Maher Midfielder Cam Fleeton Defender Jack Ginnivan Multiple Josh Treacy Forward Eddie Ford Forward Oliver Davis Midfielder Corey Durdin Multiple Jackson Callow Forward Sam Collins Defender Harry Sharp Midfielder Malachy Carruthers Defender Max Heath Multiple Shannon Neale Ruck Phoenix Spicer Multiple Luke Pedlar Midfielder Taj Schofield Midfielder Maurice Rioli Jr Multiple
  14. Perhaps about 10 or so years too late. When recruiters came around to Neville Jetta’s place, Nev’s mother suggested it might be worthwhile getting in touch with her nephew Lewis but it never eventuated then ... it’s now a bit late.
  15. Collingwood’s 2021 calendar was sent off to the printers before the trade period and now features a Western Bulldog on the front cover. He’s also Mr. January. Then there’s a North Melbourne player featured for the month of October. There were no takers for Mason Cox so he’s still good for the last month of 2021 but will he still be a Magpie by then?
  16. The Herald Sun’s draft dossier ~ 60 potential draftees. Draft dossier: Which junior stars should your club pick?
  17. GWS Giants are showing interest in Suckling.
  18. How bad are we traveling if we can’t get a player to make this list ~
  19. Another half baked idea. Thankfully, they’re not going with it this year but next year ...
  20. Technically, someone else could draft him but why would they in these circumstances? Melbourne has looked after him for two years as he’s been recovering from two ACL’s and he hasn’t played since 2018. Why take a risk with a player who is earmarked as a rookie and will spend a reasonable part of the season just recovering? It wouldn’t be a good look for the club that took him.
  21. Aaron Nietschke has been delisted with a guarantee of being placed on the rookie list.
  22. From the Herald Sun AFL Draft 2020: The top 30 prospects from the NAB league 18. EDDIE FORD (Western Jets/Vic Metro) Forward, 189cm, 83kg Ford plays taller than his 189cm stature due to his exceptional vertical leap, topping the charts at the Vic Metro combine (94cm). The Jet regularly took flight last year and has strong hands overhead and good speed. The forward was looking to transition into the midfield this season, requesting vision of Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe from the Dockers to help improve his midfield craft. He goes up a gear in big games, highlighted by his hot start to the All-Stars clash on Grand Final day, finishing with two goals and 20 disposals. 19. ZAVIER MAHER (Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country) Midfielder, 185cm, 82kg A powerful and quick inside midfielder, Maher claimed Caulfield Grammar’s best-and-fairest award after a stellar APS season in 2019. He played just six games for the Bushrangers as a result, showing promise with his contested ball-winning – with 58 per cent of his possessions won in a contest – and burst of speed from congestion. The focus for Maher during the season was improving his endurance, registering a personal best in the 2km time trial at the Vic Metro combine. He also highlighted his speed with a fourth-place finish in the 20m sprint (2.89 seconds).
  23. ... pick #28 turns into pick #36:- 36. Melbourne - Matt Allison Height, Weight: 192cm, 80kg Profile: Allison is a strong-marking tall forward who reads the ball well in flight and possesses excellent endurance. Matt is the son of Coburg VFA Team of the Century player, Brian Allison.
  24. ... and pick #19 turns out to be pick #24:- 24. Melbourne - Isiah Winder Height, Weight: 180cm, 79kg Profile: An athletic utility, Winder tested strongly at the WA draft combine across the board. While super athletic with his speed and leap in particular exceptional, Winder combines this with strong hands overhead, one-touch ground level skills and excellent composure and placement of kicks out in front of inside 50m targets to lead onto.
