Sometimes as supporters we wax lyrical about individuals and their form. But the hallmark of this team is when they all do their role, are mentally switched on, the opposition don't get a sniff. I don't know what that role is but it results in a fantastic collective result! The harassment, the defensive skills, the tackling like you mean it, clogging up the corridor was back to its best tonight. Add to that moments of brilliance from the likes of Fritta and it deflating for the opposition. Sure we had some quiet players in terms of stats, but if they mostly did their job. And that's all that matters.

6. Viney 5. Trac 4. Fritta 3. May 2. Brayshaw 1. Sparrow

Hibberd and Hunt had done plenty of them tonight.

Superb lingers

In a game of margins you'd hope that Kozzie not giving off and Gawn missing from 35 won't cost us. Fritta great.

I think the enjoyment of the season took a hammering after we won the first 10 games without really playing exceptionally well. Then we started losing and with it we lost our edge. I sort of expected us to really hit our straps in the second half of the year and play some of that football we saw in the first quarter and last 40 minutes of the granny. Alas, not to be. The Brisbane win was satisfying, especially the ruthlessness of Viney as captain. But in the last eight weeks we've accepted losing. We no longer have that kamikaze attack on the ball or man. We don't have the connection we once did. And injuries have impacted our fitness and continuity. There will be some enjoyment to come though. I have faith in the leaders and the management of the team. It might just start against Freo this week!

The uncompromising ruthlessness was there against Brisbane, but has been missing in most other games. It can be brought back, but can we do it for three or four finals?
-
It changes every week. But one of the consistent things is a lack of contested marking. Can't take a mark especially against decent teams. Then theres the non existent forward pressure, the form of Salem, Gawn and Petracca and inability to win clearances.

Petty had five kicked on him.

Last year we were pretty much injury free. Now we are labouring under the weight of unfit players. Salem, Gawn, Lever, Oliver, Jackson, BBB, Petty, Langdon, TMac, etc. have all been impacted.
-
Tomlinson flogged Bruce and with Fritta was probably the only guy to win his position. Amazing game.
-
Random thoughts. Weed played great for one quarter. Gawn and Jackson flogged by English. Gawn trying to do too much out of ruck contest. Petty having five kicked on him. Hibberd's mistake ridden game. Kozzie's misses. Salem not committing body anymore. The Salem Brayshaw combination doesn't seem to work.
-
Why Tomlinson out? One of the only blokes to win him position.

Gawn is being flogged by English

Weed has been good. Viney great. Weightman exposed as a soft c*ck. Need Gawn to lift and nail simple shots.

Final Nine Proposal (if Tassie enter the comp)
dee-tox replied to Big Col's topic in Melbourne Demons
19 teams is a dumb number. We'll never get a 20th because the NT is too small and the footy states of SA and WA won't be able to muster another team. If Tassie is to happen, North goes south to be the Tassie Kangaroos. -
You sound like you have inside info? Big call coming back from a broken right thumb after only two weeks. Can speak from first hand experience it ain't much fun handballing with your right hand when your thumbs broken. Three to six is the normal prognosis.
-
We're not completely innocent here. Spargo and Kozzie are two of the better duckers in the comp! I think the umpires are a particularly wary of Kozzie. That head high tackle in the third quarter of the GF where Brian Taylor started carrying was a classic example.
-
If Gawn and Jackson can't get it done then you wouldn't think Weed could just step in all of a sudden and answer our prayers! He's had more that 50 games to do that and it's worked twice. With Tomlinson he doesn't play tall because overhead is a major weakness.
-
Given us mere mortals would be in a cast for three to six weeks for a broken thumb, I don't quite get the whole he'll back next week malarkey.

You know the above discussion was about Rory Lobb? 😮

dee-tox replied to Demonstone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Demonland either has a few trolls infiltrating the website or we have the worst so called fans going around. Embarassing.
