  1. again, we coughed up alot for him, he has done nothing to suggest it was a good price to pay. i keep hearing about his leadership.. yet to really see that influence a game either.. in fact i will go as far as to say, its been a bust to this date. Hope it gets going.
  2. Yeah good call. If Oliver can go head to head with cripps and get some wins, then he can do teh same with Shiel?
  3. This weeks changes will be very important and one change that isnt an in or an out is that Harmes MUST tag McGrath. He is their driver, he is the one that gets them going. Give Harmes the job, if our FD are serious they will identify this and say, lets take down their key playmaker. IN: PICKET / OMAC OUT: Smith / ANB (unlucky)
  4. I have let the dust settled on what was a rather weird day on Saturday. At times, first half, i was particularly pleased, good pressure, good run and carry, and we hit targets. By the end of teh game i was really disapointed, we stopped attacking, went into our shells, showed no leadership and in the end as most people have said on here, very lucky to win. So my take outs: Bailey Fritsch has a big head.. literally and figuratively. He tried to take the back spot and wrestle, and when he got a mark he thought he was Wayne Carey, almost had an arrogance about him, Tom Mc continues to disappoint.. his lateral movement is gone, and for some reason, he doesnt want to lead. For some reason, and its beggars belief we dont have a specialised forward coach, but out fwds are reluctant to lead. Hunt is the only one and he is good at it because he is quick and has good hands. But they lead back, they want it sat on their head.. and the coach talks about connection.. well Ray Charles would tell you that if the fwds dont lead up at the ball, connection is going to be pretty hard. One example of what a leading fwd can do to a fwd line is when Hunt kicked his 3rd in a row, in teh second qtr.. we had run and carry, hit up leading target, Trac lead really well from full forward, it opened up space and allowed Hunt to run into space with a beautiful weighted kick. Its pretty simple and it really annoys me. Anyway, we would want to play a lot better against teh Bombers on Sunday. The upside is that we showed we can play well and we also had a lot of players down, so there is upside and im happy we won. the chance to be 2-1 after 3 is so important.
  5. Loved Jack, sadly his desire at times let him and teh club down and the Club let him down as well. He really is the poster boy for a club that lacked identity, direction and any hint of professionalism. He will play 200 plus games which is a very good career. i have had the pleasure of being in his company a couple times, you wont find a more polite, genuine and happy go lucky bloke. Wish him nothing but the best, sadly his time at MFC was tainted and he needed a move. Nic Nat seems like a great bloke as well.
  6. its the absolute thing we should do. Shut down Cripps and it goes along way to winning, they are so reliant on him. If we let him run free its a very very poor reflection on our coaches.
  7. Training and playing very different things as we all know, but in saying that i think play him, as many have said on here, his elite skills could make such a difference. its risk v reward, but that was the same as when we secured him, time to get the reward before the risk comes back.
  8. if we are a team that wants to play finals, we should win 4 outr of 4. Carlton - Injuries and youth, Goal kicking is their problem. Jetta on Betts. Essendon - Can be good, but we should out point them in the middle. Geelong - at the G should help us. Our only worry i reckon Sydney - a side that is in between a rebuild and hanging on to finals. Simply we want to play finals, we beat them.
  9. This is the Media or style of media he has created. Hutchy is the biggest purveyor of outrage media. He pulls the pin, lets others throw the granade. Its just the bottom of the barrell styuff that would make really good honest, ethical journos turn in their grave, even if they are not dead! The AFL media is at one of its lowest points right now.
  10. Crossy is such a good bloke and has the exact attitude that the players needed around them when he came to the club. I hope he can find his way back to our club.
  11. I find it all pretty shameful and sad. Brock is a walking contradiction though, says he hates when Dean Bailey's name gets dragged through teh mud and gets brought up all teh time and feels sorry for his family, yet goes and does another tell all? Also lambasts Melbourne for tanking and rightly so, but then gets on his high moral horse and goes to Carlton.. the only difference is we got caught, Cartlon are one of the most morally corrupt clubs in the league, have been for 40 years. All of it is just a mess, hope Brock finds some happiness and everyone can move on from a dark time in this clubs history.
  12. So anyone have any idea who might be our R2 opponent? Its such an interesting proposition from now on, going 0-2 witha poor percentage in a 17 round year is equivalent of being 1-4 after 5, long way back. Im starting to get excuted about the prospect of footy, seing Pickett again, watching Jack Viney competitive instincts take over again, what will Petracca do? Can Fritsch be the jack in teh pack and is Tim McDonald a good forward or did he just have a good run? will May and Lever stay on the park? and the most exciting is will Bennell be a factor. Its not footy as we know it, but its something.
  13. All good points, Lyon was a 2 time All Australian CHB as well, he also had diversity.
  14. Lyon was a leader for the time, it was what the club needed, they were an us against them team early on. Lyon was a sublime player, Neitz was a strong brilliant player, both played fwd and back. Lyon seems to have annoyed a few on this site, so it will come down to the favourite vote. Both deserving of the label of best player though. Great players, lucky to have been in our era to watch.
  15. Yep that is Alan Johnson. Also shows how good our backline was!
  16. Max is a great player and may end up being one of our best 5 ever. I think Lyon is alreday in that category. Also, Lyon is 5 time All Australian, not 3. Teams of teh year are recognised as ALl Australian. Garry was named CHB in team of the year in 1989 & 1990. Brings his total to 5 representative sides. 1989 B: A. Johnson, C. Langford, G. Pert. HB: B. Lovett, G. Lyon, G. McKenna. ? D. Pritchard, P. Couch, G. Brown. HF: N. Winmar, S. Kernahan, Gary Ablett. F: B. Stoneham, J. Dunstall, A. Bews. Foll: S. Madden, M. Bairstow. Rover: J. Platten. Inter: T. Daniher, T. Watson, M. Bayes, G. Williams. 1990 B: A. Collins, S. Silvagni, J. Worsfold. HB: B. Lovett, G. Lyon, G. O’Donnell. ? D. Millane, A. Shaw (capt.). G. Wright. HF: P. Daicos, S. Loewe, Gary Ablett. F: S. Kernahan, J. Longmire, S. Russell. Foll: S. Madden, C. Lewis. Rover: A. McGuinness. Inter: M. McGuane, M. Thompson, A. Liberatore, M. Tuck. Coach: L. Matthews.
  17. The 1994 Semi will be on Fox this weekend i believe. Such a great game to watch, Ox in full flight, Lyon 10 in 3/4s Tingay and G Lovett playing at their best, Jeff Hilton and Glen Molloy in the side. Enjoy it. will report back times if i can get them.
  18. Im a big Lyon fan,, its no secret. You could easily mount a case for Neita to be Number 1. I would have had Lyon -1 Neitz 2 for what its worth, purely on Lyon's big game ability. He was a ferocious competitor and a great captain, had sublime skills, could play almost every position on teh ground... The exact player we need today, and that is not taking anything away from Neitz, only player to play 300, a coleman medal, a great backmen, a great forward, strong, well liked. Its close. Ox would have been teh best player in the competition let alone Dees had it not been for his knees.
  19. Thats ridiculous and narrow minded and really pretty silly. Lots of people without jobs if there is NO AFL, not even talking about players. Suggest you pull your head in and show some empathy.
  20. our best chance of wining a flag that year i reckon, Perth has been a stumbling block for us. Also Lyon and Ox not 100% didnt help either. But gee we were a nicely balanced team in 1994.
  21. Lockdown is absolutely NOT ridiculous, its imperative. I hope its over soon, but i think we are looking at a minimum 3 months until any positive signs. The sooner everyone gets their head around it, the better. The positives out of this wont be felt for a while but they will be plentiful, life will be balanced, people will rest and will connect, pollution is down, oceans are cleaner. Stay safe.
  22. i feel sad.. footy is never going to be the same.
  23. i do not get why 16 minute qtrs. compromised already, why compromise it more. Just my opinion.
