  1. I believe Billings only played a handful of games for the Saints in the last two seasons due to a combination of injuries and form loss prior to coming over to us. I know its early days but it appears that he has found a new lease on life. Boy does he have some silky skills. I am very bullish about how good this could turn out for him and us. I hope he plays in the ones against Sydney. No question from me, just a comment.
  2. As a bit of a contra to the doomsday sentiments from some after our Richmond practice game, I reckon (with a bit of luck with injuries) that once again I see no reason why we can’t go deep and be serious contenders. Four years running!🤞 Never in my life have I had so much fun barracking for Melbourne and felt so optimistic about our chances as I have had in the last few years. GO DEES!
  3. Gus, you made the right call. Doesn’t make it any easier though. Thanks for the flag mate. Team. Do it for Gus in 24. Simple as that.
  4. I reckon there are a couple of positives being classified as the ‘living dead’. I find that cars generally now slow down when I try and cross the road. Took a while to get used to this. In my younger days I swear they would speed up. As an aside, I live walking distance from Casey…..so fingers crossed I don’t get ‘taken out’ tomorrow morning 🤞Go Dees
  5. As much as I loved to despise Toby Greene over the years for all his infamous antics. I have done the big turnaround. Last season I thought that he did an excellent job as a leader of GWS. Not to mention he is an outstanding player. Geez, I wished they beat Collingwood in the finals. Sooo close
  6. I think we can win the big one this year but I’m a realist. There is always an element of luck (particularly with injuries). Bring it on. Can’t wait. As an aside, last season I was really torn about who I would barrack for if it ended up a Collingwood v Carlton GF. (I detest both teams). Problem now solved. After experiencing both sides supporters in two finals…..if it ain’t us in 2022, anyone except Collingwood. Their supporter base on average are pure scum.
  7. As a four year old to immigrant parents in 1964 my mother gave me a Hawthorn jumper and a Melbourne jumper to my older brother. Logic being neither jumper had white in it, easy to keep clean. The Dees won the flag and I deserted Hawthorn like the plague and made the switch to the mighty Dees. 12 Hawthorn premierships later I luckily (and legally) managed to be in Perth in 2021 to see the mighty Dees snag the big one. It was worth the wait. Go Dees!!
  8. Can I add that little twerp that wears his old man’s footy shorts when he gets a game for the Filth (Ginnivan) to the list?
  9. I keep saying, ABC- anyone but Collingwood Go Brisbane!
  10. Please no. I detest him on so many levels (just my opinion, I’m sure there are plenty others that would think differently).
  11. When you see two of the sides in the bottom half of the eight make it through to the prelim finals it shows just how even the competition really is. Wasn’t much between all the sides in the eight (perhaps the Saints excepted). We lost both our finals due to poor kicking, rather than we were beaten. Had we beaten the Pies we would have been serious contenders. We lost. Had we then beaten Carlton it was still going to be a tough ask to go all the way. That is how close the competition is. My question is this. Taking into account that the list will be reviewed and refined as well as tweaks made to our game plan, unforeseen injuries aside, tell me why I shouldn’t consider us being not just a contender but a serious contender next year. I reckon we will be. I think people sometimes forget, premierships are extremely hard to come by.
  12. The going gets tough and the tough get going? I gather by the amount you pay for membership fees that you had reserved seats and finals and grand final guarantee? If that is the case that will free up that seat and I sincerely hope that whoever buys it actually goes to the home and away games during the season (not saying you didn’t go, I have no idea).
  13. Poor kicking, poor football, I get that. Bad luck with injuries, such is. Close competition, had we won last week, we were serious contenders. Even if we won tonight, it was going to be a tough ask. But the umpiring, those bloody umpires. Seriously, last night it was an absolute disgrace. I will never get that. At the start of the year I thought the concept of having 4 umpires was going to be good (pick out frees deep at both ends of the ground) I was so wrong. They were poor all year.
  14. Pretty much the consensus view from neutral football mates of mine was that we actually blew our chances last week. Had we won then, we were a serious chance. Had we won this week it was going to be tough to get there. Poor kicking in both games cost us the games. They all unanimously said that the umpiring last night did us no favours whatsoever. The only thing I’ll add in our outs also did us no favours. it’s a close competition. We failed this year. There is always next year. GO DEES!
  15. I see it slightly differently. Last night loss was so disappointing but the killer blow was the week before. What was common across both games was inaccurate kicking for goal and some key injuries. (The umpiring was atrocious in the Carlton game). Had we beaten Collingwood we were in the box seat. Had we beaten Carlton it would have been doable but very tough. That is how close the competition is. So close yet so far away. I reckon you always need a bit of luck (with injuries) to go all the way. Premierships are extremely hard to come by (one in eighteen chance). Very disappointed but still very much looking forward to seeing what we can achieve next year.
  16. Any side so long as it is not one the Victorian sides…. in my opinion
  17. I’m guessing out of the 96k that went to the game it seemed they had 60k and we had at best 36k. Sort of sad.
  18. The umpiring was disturbingly bad, that is a fact. (The four umpire system was a complete failure all year and sadly, I think it is here to stay) Bad kicking is bad football, we not only lost this game that way, did the same last week as well (and a couple more during the year. That also is a fact. So frustrating! Theoretically an easy fix. Kick straight ffs! You need an element of luck with injuries to go all the way. In 2021 we were lucky. 2022 we were the walking wounded. This year our forwards didn’t fare well at the end. (Nor did Gus). This really hurt us at the pointy end. I’m very disappointed but for some strange reason not totally gutted. I am looking forward to next year (but will totally enjoy being away from it in the coming months ahead). For the next fortnight ABC. (Anyone but Collingwood or Carlton)- if the GF is between these two, go the Blues (their supporters are almost pleasant when you compare them to the filth). What an absolute contrast between last week and tonight. The filth are really the filth. Will always remain a rusted on Melbourne supporter. GO DEES!!
  19. I’m sort of hoping that our forward game plan will involve very quick sharp kicking in (breaking the lines, lowering the eyes) , not slow congested long bombs. If and when it is bombed in (say from a centre clearance) again , speed is the essence. And…. keep it locked in…. and kick accurately, and….
