It’s Kentfield season

Now that it’s getting more likely that we draft Farrow, I’d like to apologise for calling him a poor man’s Harvey Langford and say I’ve always been a big fan of his work

Maybe it’s just because he’s also a left footer but Farrow gives me ‘poor man’s Harvey Langford’ vibes

Concerned that we don’t rate Grij for whatever reason I have no idea why we wouldn’t take him at 7 or 8 if he was available

I mean that’s sort of my point though - none of the key forwards in this year’s crop did what either Cadman (playing himself into top 10 consideration) or Walter (being the dominant forward from the start of the year) did I just personally think taking KPFs early in the draft is a much bigger risk than just about any other position That’s not to say that he or Shubert won’t become good players - it’s just that I feel there are far more bankable options at 7 and 8 that I hope we take (that still fill a need for us and are likely to impact more in the short term)

MFCSS after Cook, Weid and (potentially) Jefferson Personally I’m just not a fan of taking KPF’s in the early first round unless they are absolute standouts like Walter or Cadman in recent years

To be fair he’s definitely not rated in the top 5 But still I agree - no disrespect to the kid but I hope we stay away from him like the plague Wouldn’t be surprised to see him slip into the late teens on draft night

Is there any chance we wouldn’t take Grij if he was available at 7 or 8? It’s probably just my MFCSS talking but I haven’t heard him linked to us in the same way Cumming/Schubert/Dovaston has Other than Robey he’d be my #1 target

Starting to look like we’ll be picking him if he’s available at 7 Even if he’s not my first preference he does look like the type of player JT would love - and that’s never a bad thing

Just out of interest - who do you like at 8 if not Dovaston? I’m guessing we take whoever slides out of Robey/Taylor/Grij/Sharp/Cumming at 7 and use 8 on a needs based player (with Dovaston as a small fwd making the most sense to me personally)

Thanks for the intel @BLWNBA I wonder where that leaves us on Dovaston then? Because I just couldn’t understand us taking LSP over Dovaston in the scenario you put forward My opinion is that I’m happy to trade for an extra first round pick to take LSP but only if we retain 7 and 8 (and leave our future first untouched)

I think we’ve all just accepted that he won’t make it past the Tigers or Dons - would love for him to slide for all the reasons you point out though

100% Grij is definitely at the top of my list for mids that might be there at 7 and I’d hope we take Dovaston with one of our picks I also think that Butters coming out of contract next year could help us in the Humphrey sweepstakes, as most Vic clubs would be more likely to chase Butters, potentially giving us a clear run at Humphrey with our two firsts A lot of water to go under the bride there though!

I think if the Tigers don’t take him he’s a good chance to fall to our pick Purely speculation (based on phantom drafts and my own vibe) but I think the Dons would be more likely to take Sharp and Cumming over him (and they would definitely take Robey or Taylor if they’re available)

@adonski I’m pleased to announce that I’m jumping on board the Dovaston and O Taylor train at 7 and 8 (presuming a Robey or X Taylor don’t slide on the night) The potential midfield options at those picks aren’t doing it for me, so I think it’s better to reach for players who have attributes we need to compliment our young core If we could also find a way to snag Pickett too we’d have added a huge amount of speed and class in one off season

Is there a world where - if we manage to trade for an additional first round pick to take Pickett - we select him AND Dovaston? A position of weakness for us would immediately be significantly stronger if we could bring both in

Not many of the midfield options likely available at 7 and 8 inspire me Time to get on the 🕊️ train

After watching a heap of footage of the players expected to be in our 7-8 range, it’s clear none have the upside of Robey We all know that JT loves to target particular players, even if it means paying overs to move up, and we already know that we were the first club to speak to him So with that in mind, do we have any realistic pathways to trade up to get him? We would need to trade for pick 2 or 3 at the latest to guarantee we could take him

Equally though they’re reminiscent of last years early phantom drafts that all had us taking Armstrong with one of our picks As it closer closer to draft night most were predicting Langford or Tauru and then a Lindsay or Allan

They’re almost all exclusively Schubert + Sharp/Cumming/Farrow/Lindsay/Dovaston
