Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Reckon Bucks wouldn’t be interested if we had a bad list Especially when yesterday was one of the first games where our promising young talent really led the way with less impact from our senior players (sans Gawn and McDonald) Think we just need to continue to rebalance our list towards our younger core and see if we can top up with some players in that 24-26 range, while also bringing in a new coach to further transition the gameplan, improve selection integrity and potentially make some tough calls on a few senior players

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
An honourable loss if there ever was one Showed our next coach the potential of our list, particularly our young players, and our ability to play fast paced, damaging transition footy Unfortunately also showed them the limitations of our senior players, some of whom might have some tough conversations coming their way at seasons end Oh and we might need to bring in an assistant coach focused specifically on close game scenarios, because once again our leadership and planning at that last CBA was woeful Still, very entertaining and shows us we have life yet!

Might have to bring in Pendlebury as an assistant coach after he retires for that to happen 🤣 He was a Dees supporter as a kid 👀

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Blind Freddy could tell a a few weeks into the season that Goodwin’s time as coach was coming to an end sooner rather than later I’d be disappointed if the club didn’t start sounding out options as a contingency plan because, guess what, things didn’t get that much better after the 0-5 start The club preparing for the potential of a new coach didn’t cook our season, our (now previous) coach did that

Simon Goodwin Sacked
I will never understand why Rivers wasn’t put into the midfield this year His second half of 2024 as a full time midfielder was excellent and one of the few positives in an otherwise disappointing year He then spends all preseason training as a midfielder as Goody begins to flag that we’re transitioning as team, both from a gameplan and personnel perspective But then what happened? He didn’t play a single minute in there for the whole year, despite Viney, Trac and Oliver playing game after game in there, with their weaknesses being a significant factor behind us falling to 7 wins 13 losses And I don’t want to hear about AMW’s injury meaning we needed another defender back there - by the time McVee came back into the team we had plenty of defensive cover to move Rivers out of defence In the end it was emblematic of why Goody had to be moved on, and it will be very telling if he starts getting CBAs in the last three games

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
I don’t know if the club would have enough pull to do that on its own merits unfortunately Rightly or wrongly there is a certain perception of the club at the moment and I’m concerned that if we bring in an inexperienced coach we may not attract further talent in the FD, and may be setting them up to fail Someone like Buckley would attract talent on his own merits, and it would be a big vote of confidence in the club if someone with his reputation wanted to coach here Again he may or may not be the ‘best coach’ of everyone available, but he would bring a lot of other benefits that would be exclusive to him

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Appreciate the info @Howard_Grimes Your last point about bringing in quality assistant coaches is an underrated point in the discussion Maybe there is an untried coach out there who has better tactical acumen then an experienced coach like Bucks, but one thing someone like Bucks will be able to do is bring in these types of coaches as assistants while also bringing his own leadership as senior coach Not having quality assistants has been a significant issue for us since Yze departed - bringing in someone well respected in the industry and with strong football connections could be a “two birds with one stone” scenario

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Jeez Caro just took a big whack at the club didn’t she? Never mind that Bucks has already said that that coaching the club would be “compelling” because of our list, history etc Tasmania will be a great gig for a coach who doesn’t mind developing a team over the course of many years, but if Bucks wants a chance of winning a flag in the medium term the choice between the two is clear
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
I’m not necessarily advocating for Bucks but to be fair McCrae had Nick Daicos from his first year onwards Don’t underestimate how much of an impact that has had on his tenure so far

Farewell Charlie Spargo
Injuries haven’t helped him but the last time he genuinely contributed to team success was in 2021 Thanks for your help with the flag Spargo but it’s a see ya from me
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
How did he sound compared to Bucks this morning? Bucks definitely have me the impression he’d be strongly interested in the position, albeit that he’d have to weigh coaching against his cushy media gig
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Buckley definitely sounds interested and I have no doubt that the fact he never won a Premiership as a player or coach would still burn him inside Whether he’s got the chops to coach 2026 football is another question and why I would preference Horse over him (given he’s only a year removed from a GF), but I wouldn’t doubt his desire to succeed should he want/get the job

Is it too early to start the “Is X the right guy” thread?
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
I can’t remember where it was reported but one of the journos said we would likely have an external consultant on the panel too
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Surely @BLWNBA ’s scoop that Richardson would be retained but moved into a different role reinforces this There’s no way the board - let alone a new coach - is going to want the former Football Manager continuing to run the joint
-
Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Yeah but at least we’d stop making such as asss of ourselves
-
Simon Goodwin respect thread.
I’ve been vocal recently that it was time for him to go and there are still myriad of issues about his tenure that warrant discussion But that shouldn’t take away from what he was able to achieve - a drought breaking Premiership and one of the most dominant finals series in the history of the sport All the best Simon - I genuinely hope he can find another role in the industry and maybe even see the last day in September again (just not against us!) 🔴🔵🏆

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
The only experienced coach I’d be keen on Would be great if he could bring in some high quality assistants who could potentially form a succession plan (but I’m getting ahead of myself here!)

Simon Goodwin Sacked
100% The reports that they were “embarrassed” and “blindsided” by the decision only reinforces to me why the change needed to be made I appreciate many of them will be disappointed by the news given how close they are to Goody, but if they couldn’t see this coming despite our W/L of the last two years - not to mention all of the off field noise - then it’s clear that a new voice was needed
-
Farewell Judd McVee
This caught my eye too Hard to tell if this is just Ralphy connecting the dots but would be poor man management by Goodwin to have flagged this with him at the start of the season and then never delivered (ditto for Rivers in the midfield)

Simon Goodwin Sacked
Curious - not sure why they would retain him if he has performed poorly enough to be moved on as Football Manager Concern for salary cap if they move him on fully?

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
Hearing that Gawn is going to be captain, coach and CEO (he can’t start in that role for six months though)
-
Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Oh 100% I don’t think Carlton’s first pick alone is a good deal for us though, especially in such a compromised draft It would definitely start a conversation though
-
Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Carlton’s first round pick + Lewis is the kind of deal that would go a long way to rebalancing our side Hawks would never do it though and from all reports Trac is very invested atm, plus I still think he can play a good role for us up forward

Caroline Wilson’s article 2 August 2025
Some damning stuff in there
