WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
old55 replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
This Friday if the Clinton Young FA deal is in any way dependent on it - list space or cap space. -
Frawley, McDonald, Garland, Watts, Dunn, Sellar
-
He's definitely not going to Geelong - now that they've signed Caddy and have a bunch of 2nd year rookies to promote or lose - they don't have the list room. They're struggling to find a slot for Jared Rivers.
-
That's what Hatch, match and Despatch is for ...

It's too easy to criticise the approach the club is taking. Ithink we're doing very well with our list management. Clark last year. The Viney management, the Hogan selection and now pursuing Dawes whose market value is currently low. How about giving us your recipe for success. Trade pick 13 for Pendlebury and pick up Buddy in the PSD? -

Agree - we can't and don't have to solve all our problems in one draft - we have Viney and probably a top quality mid with 4. Like it or not we'll probably finish in the bottom 5 next year too and have another top 5 pick. Also there'll be fall-out from GWS and GC over the coming years. -
POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?

Nic's the Brynne Edelsten of footy - it doesn't surprise me that you're impressed -

So if all this is true the nett for us is: Out: 20, 45, Martin In: Dawes, Ray, Pedersen That would leave us with Viney, Hogan, 4, [any FA compo], 65, 83 thru the draft. -

How about not posting all the whinging until the footy starts again then? -
Hope they do and that everything works out for Liam on and off the field. We took a high risk-high reward gamble and gave it our best shot - I'm very glad we did but by definition they won't all pay off.

Not finishing in the Eagles B&F top 10 sets off the alarm and wakes it right up again - but then you probably reckon Gerard knows more than the Eagles FD. -

Not especially, I won't lose a minute of sleeping if they both move on. -

... big wheel keeps on turnin' ... -
Use the 4 'n' 20 pie in the draft. I'm all for landing some experienced players like Pedersen, Gumbleton, Ray and Thomas but we ought to be able to do that on the back of exiting players like Moloney, Rivers, Gysberts, Morton, Cook, Martin and later picks.
-
You must be joking - close to worst kick ever.
-
No way - less compo picks is better. Clubs shouldn't let compo picks drive their FA strategy - they should seek out the players they want and let the compo chips fall as they may.
-
Would prefer Pedersen and Ray personally and they'd both be cheaper - maybe for Martin and Gysberts.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Here's to all the cry-babies who said we shouldn't or wouldn't take Jack with 3 or that we couldn't, shouldn't or wouldn't do a deal to get him in the second round ... -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JESSE HOGAN

Or look at it this way Scully for Hogan, 20 and Barry -

I think the reason it took so long was we were trying to get GWS to take your pessimism too but they can't ship it because those big mining trucks can't travel on road. -

If we snare Hogan I'd prefer to pay less for Cam Pedersen as a bridge than pay more for Chris Dawes. I guess it depends on how confident we are that Mitch Clark will make a full recovery. -

I think you're going to be disappointed if you expect this deal to favour us or be equitable. The minimum we pay will be 3 for Hogan - we'll be the ones adding something I suspect. -

The deal with GWS for Hogan needs to appear to be a long protracted tough negotiation.
