Schwarz was a truly great player, just to be named in the same sentence as Carey is an honour. He would have been a super-star and he did a fantastic job to come back after 3 knee recos and win a B&F. FWIW I thought Allen Jakovich had even more raw talent, but wasted it. Exciting times ahead for us now I think with Hogan, Petracca, Brayshaw. Oliver.

Want competitive football, expect collision injuries. Lets hope mainly to opponents. -

Intraclub Practice Match - Friday 19th February, 2016

Yeah I don't think you would have sparked the same response if you posted this first time around instead of: "Spencer is literally a standing tree-stump. It would be nice if he provided even a little bit as an AFL backup Ruckman. But he doesn't. And he won't." Keen to hear from you who you think the replacement should be? -

We differ on Spencer's capability - he's not a starting AFL ruckman but he's not as hopeless as you make out. The problem is that players that are good enough to be starting AFL ruckmen are in that role and don't want to move to be Gawn's understudy. The difference is that you think Spencer is light years off and I think he's closer than that. -

Yes but it's not that simple is it? If you want a second A grade ruckman then they need to be able to play in the best 22 along with Gawn and that means play ruck-forward. Clearly that is a very desirable outcome - but they don't grow on trees and you have to pay heavily to get one. Even then many prefer to be the #1 ruck option and will go to a club where they can fill that role. It's more likely that we'll find a forward who can ruck enough to relieve Gawn - Frost, Weidemann, Max King. That means if Gawn gets injured then we need a reasonable replacement at Casey like Spencer. -
Saturday Talking Point: The NAB Challenge
old55 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for the reply ... but I was really asking about illumination on gameplan and I didn't read much if any of that. Quarter by quarter score results, list depth, player skills, players leadership qualities, players readiness to play - that's all fine - but what was the gameplan last year and how might it be different this year? -

How relevant was our gameplan and the players game sense last year and how do you expect this to be different this year? How did our backs and forwards structure up last year and how do you expect this to be different this year? How did the midfield match up, perform at clearances/stoppages and rotate last year and how do you expect this to be different this year? -

I think so. Probably greatest tennis player of all time. Possibly greatest female athlete of all time. If Usain Bolt wins the double at this year's Olympics then he's the greatest athlete of all time IMO.

For the record, that is not what I am saying. If Jack's foot holds up in full training then he'll play at Casey, and if it holds up there and his form warrants it then he'll play for MFC. If he breaks down at any of those stages, I won't be thinking about "52 years". I am 100% behind him

I talked to a former player whose career was ended by the same injury, after a number of operations similar to Jack In his case everything was fine at training but unpredictable match conditions were too much and that's where he broke down. Let's see what happens. Good luck Jack!

Robson played it very smartly: "i should have known about the program but I didn't know anything about it, therefore I have to resign" Least possible personal damage.
-
Hird wants it both ways: I wasn't part of the management chain for the "supplements" program and was in the dark about what was happening I know that the players didn't take anything prohibited

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
old55 replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
You're a harder man than me. I've followed this case reasonably closely and am satisfied that the players used TB-4 and therefore committed an ADRV and I think that the CAS penalty is appropriate because the players share fault. I won't labour the reasons here unless anyone really needs them. But on the other hand - Melksham was 20yo starting his 3rd year in the system. Hird and Dank told him it was all OK - even Dank (mistakenly) thought TB-4 wasn't banned. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/danks-stunning-admission-20140613-zs7ea.html Watson, Fletcher, Stanton, Hille etc were all going ahead with it. Life ban - pretty harsh! I'm prepared to welcome him to our club and hope he can re-build his career, but like you said I'd like to hear more contrition and less "we're innocent". -

So in effect, you think Melksham (and all the Essendon 34) should be banned for life and that CAS got it wrong? Because that's the natural extension of your argument. IMO, they have broken the rules and have received a significant punishment. I do think it's very unbecoming that the players involved and the AFLPA continue to maintain their "innocence" and agree with you that contrition would be far better - although I haven't heard Melksham's position on this yet. If the punishment is accepted and served in good faith by the players, then they should be free to re-commence their careers. -
Daniel Cross might be working on a special fitness program for Jake Melksham away from the club
