You can't trade a pick that you've used in a bid.

If we bid Green at 3 the best move for GWS if they want to match is to trade 4 for a 2019 pick in the teens and a 2020 1st rounder. That way only the 2019 pick and later picks get swallowed up and the 2020 1st is quarantined. No doubt they will have this contingency pre organised if they plan to match.

That's a great strategy for getting intel and it's how the order of the top 10 is generally known ahead of the draft. Recruiters won't say what they'll do but they are more likely to say what they think others will do and you can put the jigsaw together. It has got more complicated with live pick trading though.

Has high top speed but lacks agility, that's the problem. He missed a bunch of forward line tackles because even though he had the closing straight line speed he couldn't change direction to nail the quarry. Suspect this got worked out down back too. Kinda surprised he wasn't traded.

We have traded our 2020 1st so we can't trade other 2020 picks (unless we have multiple ones in the same round - which we don't)

I think we'll go for our view of best available at 3 and I hope we think that's Jackson because if we're right the upside is huge. I think if we split 8 we might go a bit more needs based - maybe small forwards that Mahoney mentioned in the trade period we would seek to address in the draft.

Mahoney said at the Info night that we were forced to use 16 players unsuited on the wings this year. I think VDB and KK out for the year hurt us there. He said we specifically targeted Langdon and Tomlinson from over a year out for that position and the great thing about them is that they are strong aerobically and don't need to come off and that means we can concentrate rotations on the midfield group. IMO KK training with the backs looks like he's been pushed out and if he can get up he can fill a deficiency we have back there. Fascinating to hear Harmes is with the backs. Don't know what to think there.

Goodwin said the signs were there in the 2nd half of the Hawthorn final when we could no longer play our style. I recall David King saying in the review of that final "if Melbourne play like that against West Coast next week they'll get smashed" and he was right. So it wasn't "suddenly"

I like it, Jones is either midfield depth or defensive forward IMO. He can't play other roles e.g. wing or defence. According to Goodwin he has come back in best shape this year. I'd prefer Jones to ANB.

One question asked why we have only 5 good kicks on the list and included Hibberd in the set!

I'm a renowned happy clapper so the informative midfield pre season graph is preaching to the converted. It was interesting when Lamb was addressing the Frost trade he reeled off backline players but didn't mention Petty. Later on Goodwin said one experiments from the 2nd half of the season that worked and we'll persist with is Petty forward. Ironically for the first questioner that means we'll see plenty of OMac back in 2020. @binman fortify your defences and sharpen your spears. Also interesting was Jones small forward and Smith back.

It's risk mitigation. If they really want Green and we don't bid they win big time - pick 4 and Green. This is just a safety net get out method in case we do bid.

If we bid on Green GWS could split 4 for a later 1st rounder and a 2020 1st rounder and match the bid with 2019 picks and quarantine the 2020 1st. For example trade 4 with GC for 15 + 2020 priority 11. Use 15 and later picks for Green and end up with a better 2020 1st rounder than they just traded away. There's lots of permutations.
