Brody Mihocek
Which team is contending with a 23yo #1 key forward?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I'm not fixed one way or the other on the Brown trade. I agree with @DeeSpencer that Weid is a #1 forward. But the problem is that his body isn't quite there yet. He was very good in the middle part but dropped off in the last part of 2020 because of this. This was exacerbated because he had minimal support. TMac and Jackson out and Mitch Brown not consistently drawing a tall defender away. Next year we could have a combo of Weid, Petty and Jackson which would cause tall defenders to need to split attention. But again all are immature bodies unless Weid really comes on over summer. Alternatively Ben Brown, Weid and Jackson. With Petty playing back in place of OMac/Tomlinson. There's not any real fwd defensive difference between Weid-Petty and B.Brown-Weid combos. Look at this year's top 4, none of them are going with a 24yo #1 marking forward. Brisbane have targetted Daniher because McStay is not really good enough. I'm leaning towards yes on Ben Brown.

TMac on the Trade Table?
We would if we wanted to spend the 70-80% saving on another player.

I think you've got a warped view. Goodwin is going to recruit to play finals in 2021 because he wants success not to save his job. He will ultimately stand or fall on whether he leads us to flag success. There's no job retention incentive for him, if he ultimately doesn't deliver flag success then he'll have job security as a well paid assistant coach elsewhere. You either believe we're in the flag window in which case recruit accordingly or you don't which means draft. Don't get caught half way between. We've shown balance - we effectively drafted in 2019 and 2020 and brought in Langdon and Tomlinson. IMO it's fine to concentrate on mature players now to fill in the missing elements.

Were Hawthorn supporters crying after they recruited a 31yo Brian Lake and then he played in 3 consecutive flags?

You appear to be unaware that in almost all cases a player needs to be offered a higher amount by the other club to be enticed to leave his current club.- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Hope it tasted nice, he's talking about Brown.- Yze is a Demon Again
No, for the record I don't agree. You can read my previous post for my position.- Yze is a Demon Again
You see things through a strange prism. Goodwin was definitely on notice in 2020 - the result we achieved was equivocal and the year was crazy so he will survive, if we'd had a year like Essendon or GWS I believe he would be sacked now. I see 2021 as a replay of the expectations of 2020, we need to make finals and put up a good showing in them or he's gone.- Trade Targets
Richo must be a fan, Savage played a lot of footy under him. https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/S/Shane_Savage.html If Richo survives the review there could be a path.- Finals Week 2
I'm sorry George, I really respect Nathan Buckley, I think he's grown to be a very good person and coach: https://www.afl.com.au/video/516873/buckley-de-goey-s-future-comes-down-to-money?videoId=516873&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1602334307001- Jack Viney on Re-Signing & Geelong Offer
We're usually on the same page LH but I don't read this the same way. I love what Jack has said in this article. He IS a key element to our future success and he recognises that. I like that he says everyone has to buy in to what's best for the team, and for example if he is required to spend some time as a small forward then he would do it if he is true to his word. It really resonates for me that he has aligned himself strongly with Goodwin, he has unequivocally committed his support, that's what I want to see. Goodwin will be coach in 2021 and it will be a pivotal year for him. I don't want to see any players second guessing that.- Jordan De Goey

You are making the point that MFC is particularly bad at managing developing tall players and used OMac as an example. I used English as an example of another club mismanaging a tall in worse ways and @whatwhatsaywhat brought up the even more conclusive example of Josh Fraser. Your whole shtick is unique "MFC mismananagement". You seem unable to follow a relatively straightforward rebuttal.- Farewell Oscar McDonald
Yeah even better, cripple potential stars by exposing them in a more demanding position before they are physically ready for it.- Farewell Oscar McDonald
English at Western. He's going to be a very good player. Maybe Beveridge is a nuffie?- Isaac Smith
True but it's better than paying Brad Hill $900k/year- Trade Targets
Big Footy has a thread that Jordan Clarke is "out of favour" at Geelong. He's definitely been out of the team but that is probably temporary since those geriatrics were the oldest team average age EVER in AFL/VFL history last week at 28y 134d. Anyway Clarke would go alright at wing/HB for us. Maybe a trade for Preuss + pick.- Yze is a Demon Again

What's this story about Goodwin ever taking any input from assistants. I know directly from Brendan McCartney that they had a close and fruitful relationship. When Macca left everything he said was positive about Goodwin.- Isaac Smith
Yes thanks - Smith's a winker, not a campaigner- Isaac Smith
I think people love to think they made the difference - it takes the whole thing to another level. I think there was a fair bit of that going on with Lewis, even though it didn't ultimately pan out.- Jared Polec
