  1. Mentioned this somewhere else but it is 3 minimum deletions. You may say that because of our position we need more new faces than other teams but this year is an anomaly. The age change is drastically lessened the depth of the draft. Pick 35 would be worth 55-60 and so on. I can see us winning 6 games (not ideal I know) and having 2, 19, 35, and elevating Spencer. Whelan, Wheatley, and Bell are, unfortunately, the front-runners to be moved on. Macca and Robbo would have to finish the year strongly to go around again. Sylvia needs to continue his good form. PJ needs to step up or risk being overtaken by Meesen. Dunn needs to string a few games together. McNamara needs to push for a game as well. To many it would seem morbid to be plotting the end of careers so early in the year but it is an important issue for us to discuss nevertheless.
  2. No he hasn't. But Batram has. Can't believe the nonsense, and its relentlessness, over Batram. Has a few clangers a game but beats better opponents on a regular basis. Godfrey mach II. He plays a role and does it well.
  3. 45 is right. Our midfield needs to be on their game. Got smashed in the clearances last week. Contested possession was really good but we need McLean, Moloney, and Jones to continue their good work and get some help from others. I can foresee some frustrating moments where their speed will take it very easily through the middle of the ground, we just need to give them the same treatment. I think it will be an open game, if the weather holds.
  4. We don't need to delist 7 players. It is a shallow draft, I know it is because the 2010 draft has taken a chunk of the 2009 group due to age change. Let's say we win 4 games: Pick 1, 3, 20, 35 and Spencer. That is as far as I would go into this draft. That's 5 players and if Prendergast thinks 35 is worth 60 in a normal draft he may wait for the deeper draft next year. If we win 5+ games: Pick 2, 18, 35 and Spencer. Whelan and Wheatley are having trouble getting on the park. Macca and Robbo will have to sit down with Bailey and think things through. Dunn might be vulnerable, Sylvia too... But, it is possible McNamara might be a victim of his slow start. But I just don't see a cleanout coming this year.
  5. He's talking about this year. Not the next three years. What a few of us want, I am not excluding or including myself in this, is IF we are to only win 5 or 6 games we should play toddlers in the 5th and 6th win so that we qualify for the priority pick. We could very well be 1 and 12 or 2 and 13 when we play WCE at the G. The 6 rounds after this game also include Port, Richmond, Freo at the G, and NM at Etihad. My personal view is that I don't think we will have to worry about having too many wins. However, the incentive is there not to win a game just the way Carltank did a few years ago. 2010 should see us have 7-9 wins and improvement again in 2011, maybe a finals spot. Both scenarios would be enhanced by having a 4 and 18 season in 2009.
  6. So you would put time into Newton (because he could possibly be an 'A-grader') and move Miller on? If we win a flag in the next 5 years it will be due to no one person. I've said it before and I will reinterate: If Watts learns Miller's workrate, he will be an absolute champion. And I am pleased to know that Miller will be CHF until Watts is ready and then he will be a damaging HFF. And, finally, yes - he can be apart of a premiership side at Melbourne. (I have had a go at Miller in the past, but you have to change your mind as the facts change. And the fact is - Miller is a good player.)
  7. We play WCE, Port, Richmond, and Freo at the G. IF we win this Sunday I think we can say goodbye to that priority pick. We will finish where we finish and deserve what we will get. That is all.
  8. We ARE a rabble too... The third was a definite win? On what basis; they kicked 4.1 and we kicked 3.4, I can't stand this semantical argument... We won two qtrs and they won two qtrs. Done. Argument over. Settled.
  9. WTF? Haydo has gone, ridiculously, to one extreme. And Hazy has gone, cynically, to the other extreme. I mean, seriously, last sunday was an indictment on Newton?! That's it, i'm going to bed...
  10. I think his point is that you said he played well and had a poor display in the same post. Giving him credit and then cancelling that credit. Hazy.
  11. "Bailey lovers" "Wankfest" I too groan when people jump on a particular bandwagon after one win but you don't have to be so patronising. Dees fans like their coach. Deal with it.
  12. WTF? And RR: If the 1st qtr is a draw then surely the third is too, and the last saw some cheapies from the Tigers when the game was done. So does that mean the breakdown of the qtrs are: Demons 1 - 0 Tigers with 3 'no decisions'? (to steal a baseball term) I love semantical arguments as much as the next bloke but we won the first qtr. You can only play the rabble your up against...
  13. We had 52 Inside 50s and to my eyes were delivered to players better than the three weeks previous that averaged 42 Inside 50s. The midfield stepped it up and the forward line enjoyed the better service and the plethora of opportunities.
  14. Some of you learn nothing from those you laud. Stynes said after the game that the fans have to be patient. Where is the patience with Bate after one awful game, and Batram after one hard-working if error riddled game? They are not all going to come on like Frawley this year, some might take a few months like Garland last year, and some might not come on at all. But we are certainly in the position to give them opprtunities.
  15. Confident boys, never drop their heads when things don't go their way. Something others at the club need to learn from. The turn Jetta did in the last qtr was sublime and showed he has the vision and poise to become a very good player across HF. And where did you pull that from Hannabal? Rivers was running back into packs, not one-on-one marking contests like he usually does. A result probably of Richmond kicking in the general vicinity of Richo and their entire forwardline gravitating toward him.
  16. I don't want to get carried away. Bailey should get 5 years, at least, but judgements either way are far too early. I mean, last week he was a dud and now he is a future premiership coach?! I think he should get a two year extension at the start of 2010 so rumours are nipped in the bud. And I'm saying that knowing full well he will have a 7 and 37 record when that decision is made.
  17. He played well. But can't you just add to the thread about Sylvia? I sound like a d!ck but, it helps organise the ever rambling thoughts of the members of this board.
  18. We were just going for three qtrs today. Richmond were poor for large periods of all qtrs. As with the 1st qtr versus Collingwood, we showed what our future can be in that second term. Eight goal qtrs are difficult to achieve in AFL, even against Richmond. Great stuff.
  19. The bloke played well. I look forward to next Sunday.
  20. The midfield before this game averaged 42 Inside 50s and today kicked it in 10 more times than they have in the first three weeks. The forward line looked better because the midfield stepped up their workrate. Bruce was great, Morton ran all day, Batram aswell. But Davey is a star. Absolute gun.
  21. Why don't we argue when we lose a good player to Carlton? Can't believe there are still arguments over CJ...
  22. Fair enough. But the 'scribes' are implying that his development is arrested if games aren't pumped into him in his first year...
  23. Half the posters on this board would give better advice regarding matters to do with the MFC. Some journos just talk for the sake of it, forever thinking their inane thoughts just haved to be heard. Taylor, Shaw, Pickering, and Robinson are the worst. BTW, to those impatient to see Watts: Nick Riewoldt played 6 games in his first year. Jack is a kid, and he ain't built like Daniel Rich. In fact, that's why we got him...
  24. Certainly puts into perspective the hand wringing that went on this board when he left. I don't want to have a go at the bloke, but if was still here he would one of the favorites to be delisted at seasons end. You can have a great kick, but if you don't have brains and courage...
  25. Starts and ends in the midfield. They won the clearances on Monday 36 - 29 so we have to break even in there. Brock (ave 5), Jones (ave 4) and Beamer (ave 4) have been good with clearances so far this season. They have to continue that.
