Stef has had his issues and I didn't think he would survive past 2011 but you change your opinion as the facts change. The sub rule means we must take in someone to help Jamar ruck who can also play another role - Stef is not there at the moment in the forward line but is solid in defence. This month has been great for Martin to accelerate his ruckwork and he has done that. When Jamar comes back he can work on his forward displays. If it gets even slightly better, he has got the second ruck position nailed. Never underestimate ruck dominance - Jamar and Martin will give us that.

And they were the absolute champions of the sport. It would be like Mick Malthouse and Chris Judd-Malthouse in the one club. It's beside the point anyway. I just don't see the desire to get a caretaker in there. If our players can be fired up by a Viney or a Royal or a Barrassi (football clubs in Europe would go for the legendary former player/coach to be 'caretaker') then why is that a good thing? They should spend the rest of 2011 attempting to find something within themselves so they are not so dependent on a media roast, a coach's bake, or any other cooked food...

'Apologists' DC? There are few holding onto the "we'll be better when we get our injured back" and there are few "the senior players are sickening me" (that's me) and AB is playing semantical games, but I don't see enough apologists to raise such ire. And if there are half a dozen regular apologists - who gives a F? Why spew arrogance and dismissiveness all over Demonland for '6 fairly regular posters?' And PS - not suggesting you are spewing.
-
That means you better drive on the left lane...

Where are these 'Bailey apologists'?! I have no idea why posters on here are throwing their ire toward such a [censored] minority I don't even know one poster who is an 'apologist.' And don't call those who point out our injury list an 'apologist' because they are not - they are frustrated that Jamar, Scully, Grimes, Trengove (susp), Garland, Batram, Bail, and Tapscott are not playing at the minute. And don't call those that don't want to replace him with Viney mid-season 'apologists.' They don't see the point of removing a coach and putting someone form the same system in. They would prefer the decision to find a coach done properly. Just stop this 'apologist' BS. Everyone on here wants what is best for the club; even the ones you think are idiots.

Yes, I like this too. When he [censored] up he doesn't drop his head and sulk back into position like the bloke who used to wear his number did. After he gave up that goal to Betts he punched his fist. Body language is important in a team environment. Green could learn something about keeping your head up, and your mouth open. His form is getting slightly better (slightly), but his body language is atrocious still.

I think this is closer to the mark. I agree that we don't implement the press as well as nearly every other club, but I still think it has to do with personnel - not bright enough, not quick enough, carrying injury, and dropping back to 'help out' and creating holes for the opposition. I will let others decide who is in which category.

Let's get McKenna!!

The style won't change under Viney. I really don't know how one can have such a desire to fire a coach mid-season... Are you worried he might turn it around in 13 games and we will stuck with him? Frankly, I don't want us to be stuck with Viney in such a scenario. We will talk to Roos and Malthouse and Sanderson (good luck) and we will do our due diligence with Bailey at the helm, so if there are worries about that...don't worry. He has the rest of the year to prove something that is slipping away from him, I am ok with him having that remote chance. And I really don't want Melbourne players to have to be 'aroused' by a fiery caretaker. They can find that passion within themselves, or they can [censored] off. Because you're no use to us if you can't fire up when you are wearing that emblem...

He was very solid. Watts is getting more comfortable, but I still wish he would listen to his gut more and stop second guessing himself. Rivers was solid. Jetta is not as talented as others but his attack on the footy and bloke is very good. Jones is a unheralded tryer but he is playing some good footy. Sylvia is getting more consistent.
-
I think he is injured. Was limping last week, and couldn't get into a sprint against Carlton. Brave fella. Also Jurrah is looking injured too. We can't take a trick.
-
With all due respect - the MFC was complicit with his win/loss record. If Bailey is sacked tomorrow, it will not be because of his win/loss record. I applauded the extension of the contract for one year last year as it would give the board an insight into how Bailey can coach a team rather than being a purely developmental figure. He has not had the best of runs with injury with the Carlton game being quite notable for the lack of experience, form, and talent in our ranks: Evans, Nicholson, Gysberts, and Maric falling into the first category, Bennell, Morton, Bate, and Petterd in the second, and Warnock and Newton in the latter category. And with Jurrah and Frawley listless with niggling injuries it leaves our senior players to do more than they are capable of doing. With that said, he hasn't been able to muster a decent attitude across the playing group. Green, Rivers, and Davey don't help in this regard as they are not leaders of men. Moloney is yet to find a way to bridge the gap between his best and worst games, and Jones is a fantastic tryer that I wish would stop tweeting and get in the ear of his teammates instead. If he can get some consistency of application from the group he might save his job, but it isn't looking good. I still say he deserves the season, and we will lose nothing by allowing him to finish the season out. Addendum: If the decision has been made prior to Round 22 than be honest and open, but it's his decision to do a Daniher or a Frawley.

Well the [censored] is most definitely in...
-
I know you wanted to be ironical and all, but you just opened up an inevitable channel (a thread) for this. Didn't really matter what the OP contained...
-
And if he doesn't? I just don't see the sexiness of getting Todd in there. Our players need to get the fire in their gut from other means than a bake, a caretaker, or a media spotlight. And I don't want to get stuck with a Viney if it is driven by 5 wins toward the end of injury riddled season. Decision to be made in September, contract in October.
-
Jurrah looks proppy, and Frawley is definitely carrying an injury. When things aren't going your way...
-
I don't think you read my post clearly. I implied we are not going to appoint our 2012 coach until October. I don't see how you can be so opposed to such an idea. If you want Malthouse - he isn't going to be appointed in September...
-
The club can take its time. It's a big decision. Whether he goes during the season or sees out the season, or gets an unlikely contract - nothing will happen until October.
-
A rise in expectation is inevitable and welcome as we get better. So I guess the more girly tantrums, the better... (Although I do have to say the rise in expectation between seasons has been outside of rational...)
-
If it was - Cam Bruce might have got 3 votes in a 5 point win last Sunday... I'm glad he wants to win a flag more than he wants to keep his job.
-
Isn't this site full of 'monday quarterbacks' after a loss? It's a little unfair to hang Bailey with his own words on the Watts to Goddard issue. He realised he had missed an opportunity that he rarely misses - giving opportunities for younger players to develop. I have no idea whether he can coach, he hasn't impressed with our lack of a press, and I don't know whether he will be there in October, but he has a pretty good record with developing players.
-
He's debuting his second rookie in a fortnight!
-
Batram might be preoccupied with Garlett or Betts but I would go with him. Moloney vs Judd at the clearances should be quite something. Two elite clearance players.
-
Careful now. Someone will call you an Emu or something... We will see how the year pans out but, yes, it is heartening to see him continue what he started. Pressure be damned.
-
And the current CBA ends the very same second Tom Scully's contract is up. So that would be a no...
