Plenty of threads have gone into that too... IMO it is about getting resources to see as many kids as possible for the latter picks and having decent judgement to see which of the 15 best kids will rise above the rest when they are 24. The latter is far more important and less costly.

Nothing, or maybe everything... No, actually, it has nothing to do with tatoos.

'Family code'? When someone reaches a certain level of importance and self-importance and arrogance they start to revel in their own hubris, and to be so unreflective as to say this is quite startling. I think he has only a short time left before the commission has to move past him. What an effing ridiculous thing to say in the name of PR in the northern states. Just ridiculous.

I said in this very thread that we have only 'adequate' candidates and I am sorry to say that it seems to be the case again. I want a young Leadership Group to build a strong leader or two out of the promising kids we have. I am all for the captain to come out of the entire group to be decided by Neeld and the FD, but the LG should look to the future, to fast track that future. I know I repeat myself on this...

This thread illustrates the shuffling of this time last year... So let's wait before judgement is brought.

BUMP Here we go again... Money is on Moloney. Trengove is the bold choice and I wish Grimes' body would hold up...

You don't pick Captains for their suitability in the media. I cannot stress that enough. You are not running a campaign or selling a product, you are trying to lead and instill confidence in a group of players.

My impression of what Schwab said was that in 2012 we will be spending $15m more than we did a few years ago. I don't know what the jump will be from this year that we will have to make up but it remains a point of interest. I am ok with breakevens or small losses but I don't see us exploding in revenue any time in the next couple of years to allow us to match the footy funding of the big clubs. That's just the way it is at the moment.

Specious reasoning. Especially considering the shallow draft and the fact that we had to give up something to get Clark. You have to give me more if I am going to take a Neeld vs Prendergast meme seriously.

Yeah, too bad about the man...

GROUNDHOG DAY!

Any supporter of any club that had to put up with the 2011 that we put up with would be excited by the pedigree, words and actions of the current coaching set-up. People are optimistic, Billy. It's healthy.

I think they would be different. Bate he wouldn't let go during trade week and is in great nick and training with the midfield. Dunn is doing whatever Dunn is doing.

I just meant that mentioning the name (Gutnick) would open a can of worms on this site... I am all for nefarious deals with our plethora of rich benefactors.

Can of worms, jcb...

Terrible knees too. Unevolved you might say...

That is what pre-seasons are for. I don't fear the time I have high hopes in Nov to Feb. I fear the time I don't have high hopes in Nov to Feb.

In the commensurate article in The Age (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/russian-eyes-leader-prize-20111116-1nj4k.html) it mentions Jamar as a leader and asks whether he would like to be captain... Do some research, Pierik. He has never been in the leadership group and that is telling. As Mark himself says in the article - he has to establish himself as a leader before he gets in the LG, let alone get anywhere near the captaincy. Otherwise, it was good to read about Bate and the positive response of a few to the new setup.

Well you do know how to make unfortunate allusions to the Holocaust... That's...something.

We have a forward line full of blokes that don't chase and provide any pressure... At least we would have two blokes who can play half-arsed and kick 40 goals a season. If Neeld could get them to use their full arse we would be sweet...

He may talk tough but we got just as much as Geelong got for Ablett and what Collingwood will get for Pendlebury. It's all just huff-and-puff for the supporters.

I don't think Neeld was saying his role was to beat a tag. I think he will be given a specific role; as a forward pocket at the feet of Clark with responsibility for the forward press, a HBF role with an emphasis on both defence and attack, or as a high flanking role similar to what Sylvia does but without the marking ie. get to contests and move out the back or get the hands off. He seems to have lost all confidence when given an undefined role to 'get the footy' in the middle and he needs to get back to what he did in 2010 and then move into what he did in 2009. Looking forward to the effect the new coaching group will have on all the players but especially our senior players like Davey.

The only hope we have is if the AFL Investigations Manager Ken Wood thinks they breached the contact rules by offering his dad a job outside of the October window. I don't know how that would fly though(he is in the TPP which complicates things). I hope Dale Holmes continues to enjoy his holiday; try and get some more info on this...
