  1. Every year we do this. The training house is always destroyed. Good thing we don’t have a dedicated home base yet…
  2. I didn’t say speak, their very presence would have said to me “we don’t think this is enough for anyone to care, so here are some AFL players in attendance that will provide worth to this retirement”. The women can handle it.
  3. Mate, to think that Gawn and Goodwin need to be there is to diminish the roles their counterparts play in the club. Pearce and Stinear are handling it because that’s what would happen if the roles were reversed. You are tacitly saying that only the men’s team can prove the women’s teams worth by their presence and that mindset has to die a quick death. Kate Hore doesn’t need anyone standing astride her for her to be a great player and leader of our club into the future. I think you need to alter your perspective.
  4. Go to any media outlet praising her on FB or Twitter. Or don’t, save yourself the outrage, it’s what they want.
  5. It’s just being revealed more, and the more toxic ‘take’ hits the algorithm and gets amplified. Its always been there. The only silver lining is I hope those that have mildly misogynistic, racist, and anti-gay views see the toxicity they are standing in front of and turn around and step back.
  6. Without sounding like a Social Justice Warrior or being too ‘Woke’ - go and look at some of the passive aggressive, to outright toxic, comments on social media on Daisy’s retirement. Read through that and tell me that a bloke would get the same treatment.
  7. What an immense character she was to help drive the women’s game forward. She went out as she will be remembered - a winner and a leader. My favourite story is the one where she reportedly told the fledgling AFLW that if she wasn’t at Melbourne she would not play. That may be a myth but it will stay with me. Personally, I hope she is with Geelong for a few years and then on the AFL coaching staff at Melbourne in a key role ahead of a more substantial and historic role in the game.
  8. I think she has the opportunity to build into a career that is at AFL level. That isn’t a diminishment of the women’s game, in fact it’s an affirmation of it.
  9. 12 years in charge is a long time. I don’t think that timeframe is too far out from reality.
  10. Contracts are contracts. He owes the club nothing other than fulfilment of his contract. The game is brutal and expecting players to do what a club would not - is naive and unfair to someone who literally helped win us a flag not 16 months ago.
  11. He does seem a great bloke. And I hold out hope he gets back to form - he is literally the best tall fwd we have right now. But can we not live in a fantasy land that expects good people to walk away from a contract for the ‘good of the club?’ I find it naive and mean spirited.
  12. He will leave $500k on the table? When we are at the top of the ladder? Wouldn’t bet on it even if he is crocked in 2023.
  13. WELL THIS WAS NOT PORN. And that’s just great… Just great.
  14. If this is porn, I’m going to be so angry. I will watch it and make notes about how offended I am. LONG, STUDIOUS NOTES. OF ANGER.
  15. Its called a depth chart fyi
  16. Yes, Merry Christmas you lovely weirdos. Don’t know what I’d do without you. Also, don’t come up to me in public.
  17. Yes and particularly ‘spread’ from half back which is what the OP is desiring. Its decision making and movement ahead and commitment to share and run on that line. Now Hunt provided that last year when others didn’t. He was the crutch of a few. The HB line will need to lift.
  18. @old dee- it’s literally a point you have made yourself in the past.
  19. I don’t think there will be 3000 supporter for GWS this year - nevertheless, I find it embarrassing when we play in the caverness MCG in front of 20k against these teams… We will never be in that ‘most powerful’ club echelon and we have to reconcile that - we have our own place and we are shoring up our club while also winning, starting the women’s game, and driving into NT, raising money for BCNA and Reach, and FightMND. We do ok.
  20. Why would we stop it? Even if it doesn’t turn into memberships, this is always a symbolically powerful game to embrace Alice Springs - a place that loves footy and gets little love back. Also, we don’t turn up to GWS/Freo/Port/GC games at the G so we’re not missing much. I guess am more than indifferent about it…
  21. I don’t disagree but I know that comedy is layered. When Ricky Gervais steps over the line he does it to point out hypocrisy and tries to avoid ‘punching down’ but it won’t be free of consequence whether it is funny, rude, offensive etc and that is progress. ‘Cancel Culture’ is just the end of silence of the people like in your story and them (and others) saying “I don’t appreciate you making fun of me/my heritage/my sexuality/etc”
  22. The behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept. And for those that are trying to argue that ‘comedy is where we need to be able to say anything’ - ok then. But radio prime time isn’t ‘stand up’ or a ‘sitcom’ and if the ‘joke’ misses the consequences now reign as they should. The Australian cultural twinge of “why are you making a thing of it?” In reaction to reaction is an archaic albatross around the neck of our immigrant-built and indigenous-guarded country.
