Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
Well that was an interesting read. I am not a huge fan of this type of ‘storytelling PR’ because it can easily be quoted and then it is back and forth with whoever is being quoted. It has started well so he gets a leash but it gets shorter at every perceived failure and error. My feeling is that this type of open honesty will abate once the club gets back into it November. The hallways will be full of ‘Jack wasn’t too keen on what you said’ and ‘Steven wants to have a word about this thing’ Anyway…

Farewell Clayton Oliver
Counterfactual: We had a 3 year deal instead and Carlton pushed CP5 through the PSD last year… It’s unknowable of course, but the long deals are fine for the bona fide stars. I had two issues with the Oliver one - he wasn’t a professional, and we gave him a percentage of the cap, not a set $ figure. Lamb and the club should review their actions and process on that one. The CP5 one is fine IMO.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
It’s hard to know what deal would sway the club but I don’t mind having this ‘2 1st round picks for 4 years’ thing that we are in the middle of. It’s a good clump of talent at similar ages that reminds me of 2014-2016 when we got Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, and Oliver. That really was the engine of our flag run.

Building to our next flag
‘Gorilla Monsoon Key Forward’ If I key word searched that would I find anything? I think most that are hopeful is because he is an established tall forward and we have only had Ben Brown since Hogan left. Our problem has not been the lack of a big forward to win us games - it has been the cumulative failure of terrible ball movement, spasmodic and glacial decision making, and pathetic forward craft from those that are meant to attract the ball. Mihocek solves that last bit, and gives a chance to King to make headway on the ball movement and decision making.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
If you are happy with a 50% strike rate then why don’t we trade up and get 100% from the top 3 or 4? I hope they explore getting into the top picks as a rule

Realistic 23 for 2026
Picket has to be in the middle. Viney has to get a second bow to his quiver in the forward line. I would like to start Heath. I want to set up to win, not develop players that are not ready. We will have enough ‘kids/developing younger player’ demanding a game; Turner, Adams, Heath, Culley, Langford, Lindsay, Windsor, Tholstrup (I hope), ND11, ND12, et al. Heath Melksham Fritsch Chandler Mihocek Culley Windsor Rivers Langdon Jiath Turner Bowey Lever Petty Salem Gawn Pickett Viney Langford Lindsay Tholstrup JVR Laurie My 23 is changing daily…

Realistic 23 for 2026
I think it has to be a big show. Gawn will need more rest and Heath isn’t competing with a very competent tall brigade. And where does king see petty? Rhetorical for now. Jeez, I hope he can hold down that FP (40 mins), Ruck (30 mins), bench (50 mins) role.
-
Realistic 23 for 2026
Maybe, but I like winning. Petty, Lever, Adams, Turner are more likely to squeeze out May Mihocek, JVR, Kentfield, Jefferson are far less likely to squeeze out Melksham
-
Realistic 23 for 2026
Ironically, I think Melksham is more likely to play than May.

Melksham just punched you in the face

There young sides but a good amount of talent and role players.

Letter from the CEO Post Draft
King sold a future that led to a request. A rather chaotic, immature, shambles of a request that really underlined the efficacy of the King chat…
