  1. I do expect leadership positions to be re-won every year and 2014 should be no exception. And Jones would be hard to look past as captain. But that is up to the FD and the players.
  2. Early on in his career, and I won't damn him for it, he did similar things to Watts. He would short step to avoid a contest, he would give the ball up to avoid a tackle, etc I don't have evidence other than my own opinion and recollection. Green then changed my opinion in the latter half of his career where he became utterly careless of his own safety on the field. I see it every year in my own footy team; blokes can build the confidence in their body to show a bit more carelessness for their body.
  3. The point was that the loss hasn't hurt the club, and I say that with the context that we have far more important players to keep in the next few years while we rebuild again.
  4. Wouldn't be the first Demon to do that this year...
  5. Which of those hurt? Our performances were already rubbish. Our culture was already rubbish. Moloney and Rivers will be done in a couple years, and Petterd a HBF with a dodgy kick. None hurt.
  6. None of those hurt though. The hurt was to come but hopefully has been halted.
  7. I am sure that Roos would prefer that Craig move on but this should be handled with Craig given time to collect his thoughts, talking to some clubs and moving at his own pace. In no way shape or form should he be told he isn't wanted. He can see the writing on the wall, and he can find the door himself. Thanks for the honesty and for a much better 11 games than the first 11 games.
  8. Yes, I don't think people realise how much money is lost/generated with a change in members/change in attendance of that magnitude. The issue with his salary is purely a superficial one concerning the AFL's help covering the immediate payout of Neeld and Schwab, and the sense of unfairness that we are attracting a coach of Roos' calibre with a figure similar to the AFL's payout. But I think that is a specious argument from people who don't like the fact that welfare recipients are suddenly seeking things outside of what we 'deserve.'
  9. Yes, we have spent the last 3 months making Craig out to be some sort of pub coach. Imagine what we could do to Roos given the inclination. And I am certain there will be nervous nellies next year that will see us still losing and blame Roos and wonder why we paid for a coach that has 'lost it' and should have 'stayed on the couch.' But in the end, he is one the best coaches of recent times and will allow us to fix our culture and have some confidence - both on and off the field.
  10. Yes, well done to scarlett and to all. I probably should have won the LAST 8 games of the season rather than the FIRST, but you live - you learn.
  11. That's a costly coffee - he is contracted for $400k+ next year. The exit I envision for Craig is one of his own volition.
  12. I am sure he is about to sign, but you don't talk like this to journos if you already have. All these assistants we are lining up would hear it and think 'what are they doing?' I don't think he has signed a contract yet and that is what we are telling these prospective assistant coaches. Once he signs on the dotted line then we sign up everyone else. I know he is playing the media here, but I don't think he has anything more than intentions at this stage.
  13. Pontius Pilate said the same thing...
  14. At some point we are going to have to fire him... Lets not hire anyone. Save us all the heartache.
  15. I'm with Mitch. Language matters, and when people give their opinion as fact - my language becomes colourful... And then Spanish. Que? I'm in a good mood, sue me.
  16. There are some pretty good people down at the club.
  17. Yeah, I think our membership will be 40k+ next year with Roos. The numbers go up every year but 10k members is worth $2m+ with attendance at the gate incredibly dependent on who you play so I Won't go into that but selling boxes at the G has always been tough - I reckon that gets easier. Sponsors take less work to get but the value will only be marginally more than without Roos. I am doing some preliminary maths about the competitive advantage of this but it's hard to do without the data about attendances, sponsor money etc Jackson would know those numbers however and his actions tell me that not only is this a good football decision - it is a fine commercial decision.
  18. Adam retired, Scott is a young mid with a future (and a present). Should have used:
  19. You don't pay a years wage in one week. Our overhead each week will go up but revenue streams will start coming out of areas we didn't know existed with Roos on board. Oh, and more people might sign up and come to games if we suck less...
  20. Can I just say that maybe RDB worked... When he left we suddenly went on an era far more successful than the previous two decades. That has a lot to do with recruitment under his tenure but also intangibles like culture would have been affected. Perhaps he left a foundation that Northey brought to boil and we kept it warm with occasional tepid and hot moments for 20 years. I am expecting the effect of Roos to be felt long after he has moved on.
  21. Thanks Chook. We get it. You will find about 15k 'die hard' supporters in the same group; lapsed members who will re-sign when Roos signs.
  22. Merge!
  23. And probably doesn't like the fact that his Essendon supporting mate at the office is whispering into you ear... Thanks for telling us though!
  24. Stop there. We won't win today. We are just awful.
  25. I think that the 20 losses will take the gloss of the award initially... But congrats to Nathan, Matt or Colin.
