  1. Oversaturated by 2? Byrnes and Jamar are the only players contracted for next year older than Sylvia.
  2. Depends what is out there I guess.
  3. They don't mean to. With the best of intentions they picked the wrong 18 year olds. I know you want someone to flaggelate for not doing their jobs properly but with the best of intentions those at the club couldn't pick the good teenagers when it mattered most. That's it - no malice, just well-meant mistakes. We move on and hope that Hogan, Toumpas, Kent, Jones, Clisby, and Terlich will be considered a success a few years from now.
  4. Where did I say he was a success? How can anyone claim anyone at the Dees in 2013 has been a success I wouldn't know. Even Viney hasn't been given a chance to succeed because he is asked to do that which he cannot just yet. How that means I am being a 'yes man' I don't know; I am being obsequious to whom? No-one is left to fawn in front of; theyre all gone. I agree with recruiting older players to help the kids out, rather than just throwing more speculative kids into the mix. It's not an earth-shattering idea and I hope we have a few more experienced players to help for a season or two. Cross is one name put forward who might be worth it at the right price. And it's "you're."
  5. What would you like explained? Why we are terrible? Why our list is shizen? Or do you just want to know how to get better? Drafting is the answer to all of the above.
  6. All he took was a spot on the list and we have plenty of 'empty suits' on our list. These types of recruiting decisions are not the ones I shake my head at. The ones I shake my head at are what we have done with first round picks from 2001 to 2007 (save for Frawley and Jones). That is why are list is where it is and our performances stink. And it's 'arse.'
  7. Didn't know he was on a 2-year deal... The worth of players is sometimes harder to see than what they give on the field. He had a good career at 3 clubs and he looks to have the makings of a coach from when I have heard him speak so good luck with that in the future should he wish to do that. I won't let Barrett's derision at his recruitment cloud what he has done.
  8. I don't know whether next year will be 'the end of being dismal' but confidence and structure will mean we can be a great deal better. And draft well and trade shrewdly and the medium term future can be bright. As if Colin Sylvia and Jack Watts would define my support...
  9. If bland and uninspiring is a head coach with experience in the job and a proven winning record then maybe we should be boring. We out think ourselves with engaging young 'next big things' and convince ourselves that we will be trendsetters. We need to establish a decent, hard working, selfless culture to base this club on. Williams, Eade, and Craig are capable of giving us that. With Craig's detractors seemingly blinded by perception and the ties, ironically enough, to this club.
  10. And those having a go at the ACC and the Government for THAT press conference can see what they were talking about. The biggest club sanction in AFL history. The second biggest to come for NRL's history and dozens of players from multiple clubs across Australia's two biggest Footy codes.
  11. It's funny, while I agree that one is not the same as the other - the NBA fined the Spurs $250k for resting their big three against Miami in a regular season game and really don't care about when teams tank every season. Which is really going to be quite something this year with a kid from Canada called Wiggins who is said to be the reincarnation of LeBron... Riggin' for Wiggins they are calling it. And yet the Freo equivalent gets fined...
  12. Yes, we could have had Pick 6 in both drafts instead of 12 and been in line for Conca and Wingard, and found something else to give to Brisbane for Clark...
  13. Are we at the point as a supporter group where we care about pub talk? Surely we are immune to it by now...
  14. Yes, if we take him as a FA. But according to Patrick Keane's twitter account - we can trade for UFAs. In that instance, I would trade Pick 70 for Daniel Cross and Pick 74 and maintain Sylvia's FA value.
  15. Well, that's it isn't it? I think that is what riles all. The Greater Football World did not like the way the chosen Tanking scapegoat got away with it and it is clouding whatever cogent thoughts they might have. We got Pick 1 and Pick 17 in two drafts in 2008 and 2009 in Priority Picks. The average fan would think it is far more than that and more recent that that. I hope the AFL Commission don't collapse to biased and poorly argued views from the Greater Football World and grants us what we need - even if it isn't Pick 1.
  16. It's not either/or situation. If Cross can be acquired for little he is worth it to bring in a body to help our kids in the middle.
  17. I don't want to get worse either, RB. But if they wish to leave then we have to use them as assets. Let Sylvia go, strongarm the AFL for Band 3. And push Watts to the highest bidder and try to get a young, hard running mid. These kind of decisions are not the reason we are terrible - it is pushing Bruce and McDonald out early for nothing. And it is drafting like the Minnesota Timberwolves for a decade. If Watts and Sylvia get us Pick 17 and half of Rory Sloane then our list may be better in 2014 and will be better in the medium term future.
  18. ...the people she would like to see fired... Does that clear that up? Or would you like to keep missing the point I was making.
  19. Good people get fired. It doesn't mean they are 'washed up'... I think you have been somewhat brainwashed by a football media industry that thinks that whenever some Board decides you can't coach their club anymore, you can't coach anymore. Eade, Craig, and Williams have done things as AFL coaches and have built lists, and clubs into strong units with an excellent culture. I want Roos but I don't for a seconf buy-in to the nonsense that Eade, Williams, and Craig have lost whatever they once had.
  20. Did he really? On his twitter account? They are making this up as they go... If Sylvia wants to go, I wouldn't trade him for anything less than the Pick 17-18 we would get with Band 3 compensation. No club is going to give us that for an UFA. I think that we should let him go as a FA should he want to leave and trade in any UFA/RFAs we want: eg. Matt Thomas, Scott Thompson and Daniel Cross for late picks.
  21. They had to have a position for the draft. 9th will mean they don't get the first pick of Rd 3 which is what a stripping of points would have allowed them. I am fine with how they have treated this particular issue.
  22. The only experienced coaches are the ex-coaches? You are surprised at that?
  23. Her righteousness is in the people she gets fired. It isn't in the facts that she gets right. She runs roughshod over the truth and that is what I decry, have bemoaned, and will criticise as it happens more and more often in a journalistic landscape that prides itself on being first and flagrant rather than right and wholly truthful.
  24. There are the opinions of the people on the panel. We have not heard that. There are always things that could be whispered in the ear of 'journalists' like Wilson - just ask Julian Burnside. We are keeping things close to our chests and I prefer it this way. There is more pointless speculation on here, but less living out the business of the club in public.
