I think you are confusing FA compensation with whatever is going to happen in this instance. If it is left up to the clubs to trade with us - we are not going to get a good pick - clubs are not going to fall over themselves getting a guy that has played 15 games in 3 seasons. We will not get a trade commensurate with Mitch Clark's value to us before his fall from grace. Unless the AFL step in with draft assistance...

When it comes to compensation - if you ignore all the periphery issues - Clark is a 27 year old ruckman/forward who has played 15 games in the last 3 seasons... He is also unfit, has a history of mental illness that clubs - for good or bad - will have to take into account... To Melbourne 'The Decline of Mitch Clark' story is worth quite a bit - he was a player who was easily our most talented and damaging player. To other Clubs 'The Decline of Mitch Clark' story is irrelevant to how much they will fork over for him. There is so much 'IF' coming off his potential AFL career re-ignition that clubs would not offer anything more than a prospective pick. If we are to get anything worthwhile - it is going to be through AFL House and not from Seaford, Lexus Centre, Waverley or Essendon Airport... How do those who complain we go 'cap in hand' to the AFL too often feel about that? Or are those people ok with getting Pick 45 for Clark from Collingwood or Hawthorn?

I think it is sentiment that doesn't interest Roos. We are all so upset because of the promise of what Mitch Clark was. What he is right now is a damaged footballer with questionable prospects of playing football. We were going to use his unfortunate fall from grace to lobby for a PP from what I could tell from comments from Jackson and Roos. To Roos, that need for assistance doesn't change because Clark is thinking about 'giving it another go'... That happy change of heart and health promises nothing in 2015 and beyond.

Roos is Mr Ruthless Premiership Winning Coach. He doesn't see in Clark what we all see - he looks at what he has done in the last couple years, the project that he has become and maybe he then looks at our midfield and thinks to himself that there is a better place to invest money than in, what the British would call, a "perennially crocked" forward. Hogan is the man in that forward line and Clark is only at the stage that he wants to play AFL again - so much water to flow under that bridge. If we were gearing up to ask the AFL Commission for a PP - partially on the back of Clark going - we are certainly not going to say its all hunky dory now that he is a chance to play again. IF he can get his body right, and IF he can recapture his form, and IF he can stay healthy... If Clark gets back to footy and we can gain a selection to help our midfield - then would we be better off than if we were taking the chance with Clark next year on $800k? Nothing is black and white and that's why we shouldn't eat Mitch Clark alive - he hasn't seemed like anything other than a great bloke and Demon.

GNF has great sources but his sources may not be fully informed of Mitch's intentions - Mitch or his agent are not his sources... I can see the darkness coming but I won't react until it comes and a few hours later the sun will come up and we will move on again. Never a more resilient club was born on this green earth. This bloke is a chore but he backs himself and is a winner. Frankly, every club has blokes that are chores. You both learn to get on with it and work together, evidently the Pies and he can't do that anymore but for the right price he would be very welcome.

When I think about this these days - I do the opposite of what Maldon has done above - anyone younger than 21/22 are not mentioned as an origin of improvement. Hogan might straighten us up a bit but he is just 20 next year. The men we have now and the men we recruit will dictate how we go in 2015. The Midfield Looking at the B+F - Jones (1), Tyson (2), Vince (3), Cross (5), Viney (11) and Matt Jones (13) were the only pure midfielders in the top 20 players... One of those 6 players is a year away from retirement, another is 20 and another is a very limited worker. Last year I was saying that Jones needed help, thankfully, now I am saying that Jones, Vince, and Tyson need help. If you want to short circuit this - get another Tyson, and get another Vince, and then do it again the next year. We simply have a third world midfield still.

When has anyone got 10 wins like that in one off season? It is about the quality of changes not the quantity. That is why if we have 24 players to delist, you are far better off delisting them over a three year period. Hell, a couple might turn things around - but that never happens, that's why we paid out Pedersen and didn't re-rookie Jetta - because they were done...

That's not the scenario. The scenario will be that Jones will be treated differently to Frawley. The same decision by different players inferred in one way for players one likes and another, more dastardly and conspiratorially, for players we don't like. FA has changed the landscape and there will be more and more players, important players, who delay their signing of any contract until the point at which they can make a fully informed decision - the October they are literally a Free Agent. Teams are not allowed to talk to players outside of October but we all know that is not policed - in the US it is enforced, so much so that players have calls from teams at 12.01am in the morning of their Free Agency window. The animosity toward Frawley based purely on speculation is more than disheartening, it's unnecessary and it's will become less relevant as more and more players take their time in FA. One day soon, Free Agents will be barred from signing any contract extension until the window opens and the game will be better for it.

Honestly, I don't care if he wins but if he can't get us going after Roos leaves he will have a torrid time as we will turn on him quicker than the laxative effect of the 'good gear' he was on... That's the problem/risk/issue with the next coach - he needs to be able to withstand some pressure. Roos being around the club in an advisory capacity will help but won't shield that person entirely. Goodwin would be on the back foot immediately.

What? I said the season was a failure but that we have improved - relative to 2013 - immensely. You can 'know' what you want. 2013 was a singularity of a disaster. 2014 was an enormous improvement. I don't care for people who want to ignore that just to be the one is the harshest critic so they can complain about all those dastardly apologists...

Did you read the word in between the parenthesis? We have doubled our wins and improved our percentage by 25% (14% in real terms) and shaved 34 points a game off what the opposition were scoring against us. Because we were in an abyss in 2013 - this year's mere utter failure is an immense improvement to the nonsense of last year.

Is it? And we had another failure of a season - we lost 18 games... BUT we have improved (relatively) immensely, and only the demented few will say we are no better off than we were 12 months ago or 18 months ago. The trajectory is up, we are just coming from 6 feet under the ground...

'You will give us a good draw when we start winning games?' AFL: Yeah, sure, whatever... Pretty effing naive about why we have a shite draw, guys. While the AFL value the number of arses on seats and eyes on the TV - we are not going to get valued. Fighting for equalisation isn't some "'welfare play' that will bite us when we are good" like some of you (for some reason) think - it's just a desire for fairness in a league that looks to be anything but.

I was just making a point about the malleability of list rules in the AFL. And he has retired. And Mahoney said he is not on the list. But someone else says he is on the list and can be traded. So it will be what the AFL want it to be.

Then why do you have such an issue with us trading Pick 2 and 22 for Tyson and Pick 9? We are cutting the failures in half. Your points cut across each other and you don't see it, or you don't care - it's frustrating to say the least. If you don't want posters dissing your opinions - get a blog and disable the comments.
