  1. In fairness, that narrative was moulded by collective hand wringing on here by some of the more ‘susceptible’ posters… Essentially, the inmates started a panic, got bloodied, and then sat back after and complained about how easy it was for them to panic and more should have been done to stop themselves from panicking.
  2. Yes, it’s such an affirmation of where the club is at and where the group is going. Keeping people motivated to be better can’t just be about ‘the end of their contract’ and we have obviously said to ourselves - these are players to build around - be it performance, structure, culture or all of the above. Such a great spot to be - very few question marks or worries heading into the rest of the decade when it comes to competing with the best.
  3. Ah yes, I see @DeeSpencerrivalling @olisik for the bullishness in their next thought without reflecting on their last wrong thought. Its like a daily amnesia, a ‘50 first dates’ type scenario for boneheaded opinions.
  4. Might just be happy for his mate.
  5. It’s a shame. He’s a great bloke too, good leader. And if it was in isolation it might be ok but they have Whitfield, Kelly, Greene and Coniglio on $900+. Essentially, we pay less for Oliver, Petracca, May, and Gawn.
  6. Stephen Coniglio would be the cause for pause. They are no brainers for me because you avoid a bidding war in the future and we basically can assure recruits and coaches that you have this talent for the decade so why wouldn’t you want to be here. Injuries are brought up as a reason not to do this but they happen, it’s not like we wouldn’t keep a 30 year old Oliver if he did his knee (touch wood).
  7. Only if you read into his comments. The text was there - it’s a big decision, he will make it when he wants to, he has his own desires for his future. Evidently, he wants to play for the Melbourne footy club and with some pretty good players for the rest of his career.
  8. I don’t think there is a problem with Gus ensuring the last big contract he signs is the right one for him. He signed on last time in the middle of his 4th in the Brownlow midfield performance and would be taking a sizeable pay cut to stay with us considering that he wouldn’t be in our top 10 most important players. You just can’t pay a HBF or a wing $700k+. Which is what I suspect is near to what he is on. Plus he would prefer to play midfield. I think he stays too but I understand the delay till when he actually becomes a restricted FA.
  9. Half the ground doesn’t get enough sun. There is not enough sun to dry it out, it will be damp.
  10. It is well known that he wants to play more in the midfield. He is a pro with media and isn’t going to talk [censored] about being in defence. He even made a passing joke in a recent Gus and Gawny about Goodwin costing him a Brownlow for moving him out of the midfield.
  11. I’m not debating this - it is beneath me.
  12. You really think Brayshaw and McStay are footballing equals? That’s quite revealing.
  13. I enjoy the way we are competitive in every game we play and that I get to see really good footy every game. It’s just frustrating that it is interspersed with sub par performances and boring footy. Expectations rise and that is a part of it of course.
  14. Brayshaw isn’t distracted. He is in good form. Don’t give the players the excuse - they know this is a business - they need to perform.
  15. Works for the The Age at least.
  16. ‘Perfect’? We scored most of goals in about 25 mins of gameplay on Sat Night. We won 10 games in a row playing a qtr of great footy a game… Dont need anything near perfection, need consistent effort and pressure for 120 mins.
  17. I would prefer us continue losing if we can recapture our selfless pressure game. We can win from anywhere if that is recaptured. Limp into 4th with how we are playing now and it will be straight sets. Where we finish is irrelevant; it’s how we finish.
  18. Brayshaw just said on SEN that we are not doing the things we were last year.
  19. Sen app is pretty good. SEN Breakfast on your podcast app might have it
  20. Yes, he was very eager to ensure that he is fine playing a role in the backline and loves the group. But the subtext was text - his role will be a big part of his decision and this may lead to a midfield impasse; Oliver, Petracca, and Viney are frontliners and Sparrow and Harmes are part timers who are limited in other roles. I think someone is going to have to leave to make this work for people. And it may be Gus…
  21. What is Bayley’s excuse exactly?
  22. No it’s as good as 2 with a huge percentage boosting loss…
  23. I will resist the urge to say I told you so to a few of you about our forward pressure being down most of the year. I’m good like that… Pressure is about attitude - that’s why NM and WCE can be above anyone in anything. The players have an option to lift and apply themselves for the last two months of the season or leave a golden chance to cement their legacy go begging; they are so good, that they can compete while ignoring a cornerstone of their game. But losers always talk about competing, don’t they?
  24. Thanks to all those with their bloviating judgements and negative psychoanalysis. I now understand, with more clarity, why someone would want to leave…
  25. In the bottom 4 for pressure, where we were first last year… Thats attitude. I’m sorry to burst your weird reality where we are the Schrödinger's Cat of form - neither in form nor out of form… But the players are so talented that they know they can get away with stuff and still win - well welcome to thunder dome because that won’t work against the best nor those with an axe to grind. Lift or get left behind.
