Who do we need to stand up in 2007?
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demon Head's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd like to see Adem Yze step up big time in 2007 and make a few people around here (who think Yze is not worthy of being in our best 22) return on his bandwagon -
At least they've won 2 flags in the last 10 years.
-
Hey Hards, Would this mean that the game would be shown live on Channel 7 into Melbourne? If so don't you think it would influence the lazy footy fan to stay home and watch it live on channel 7, therefore potentially turning away a few thousand fans.
-
Totally agree, but it would be a bloody tough ask. Last year we only won 2/6 which is pretty poor. A realistic aim would be to win 4/6 this year. That would just about put us in the top 4. Beat one of WCE or Freo at Subiaco Beat Brisbane at the GABBA Beat Port at AAMI Beat Sydney at either SCG or Canberra

This would be a very intriguing situation and probably the biggest call an MFC board has had to make in decades. What if the board re-signs ND after round 16 and we're sitting around 10-6 and 5th on the ladder. They roll the dice and show faith in the coach for another 2 or 3 more years. And then the same old occurs and the Dees just sneak into the 8 and do not progress past week 1 or 2 of the finals. I'd personally wait till after the season. The unpredictabilty of the MFC is too much to ignore. If the Dees make is as far as the Prelim finals, then re-sign him as it shows ND's taking his team that one step closer to the holy grail. If they don't, then release him and chase after a Harvey or a Longmire. 10 years is getting a little too long to coach a team without a premiership. However I can see the merit in signing him mid season to eliminate any uncertianty and anxiety that ND would be under, and let his sole focus be on winning a flag rather than worrying about a contract. On a side note, it looks like the Dees may be short of match practice for our NAB Cup game V's Hawthorn as I haven't heard one bit of match practice news from the side, while plenty of other clubs have commenced their trials.
-
Tingay wore this jumper in the early 90's And what about Paul Hopgood! ......yeah a dud jumper otherwise.
-
If we lose the NAB Cup opener against Hawthorn we'll be playing a practice match against the loser of Adelaide and Port on Sat Mar 3 in Mount Gambier. Ofcourse if we win, we play the winner of Essendon and Carlton in Launceston the same night.
-
Big win for Foxtel subscribers. Feel a bit sorry for non subscribers as their now deprived 1 less game than 2002-2006. Now that Fox have got the 1:10 Sunday game (ch 9 used to have it) will the channel 7 game at 2:00pm be an MCG game. For example in round 3 we play Geelong at the MCG on a Sunday at 2:00 so you would assume this would be shown into Melbourne live against the gate, therefore perhaps effecting the crowd figure.
-
I've heard more than once that the NAB Cup will only be shown on FTA.
-
Totally agree. The MFC website is just about the worst in the league for important information like intra-club matches. Dogs and Hawthorn have already announced matches on their website.
-
There is a rumour that it may change slightly...but not too sure. We should use our red alternate strip against Carlton (rd 14), Essendon (rd 13), Fremantle (rd 21), and Western Bulldogs (rd 7) this year. Definately a fan of the alternate jumper for every team. Every other major league in the world has them so why shouldn't we. *Cue for all the tradionalist to put their 5 cents worth as to why clubs should keep the one jumper*

DD I'm only basing $13.00 p/week on my subscription. I only get the basic channels plus fox sports. This is sufficient if you're only really keen on footy and other sports(perhaps this may suit Occo) Ofcourse if you want movies and entertainment package the monthly bill can go through the roof.
-
Well actually it is if you don't bother with movies. But each to their own, a lot of people don't have a care in the world for Pay-TV and you can't bag them for it.
-
Mate if you're concerned about Fox getting 4 games, it's only $13 per week to have Foxtel plus they usually offer free installation. $13 per week gets you just over 2 stubbies at a pub/bar $13 per week gets you a movie ticket Just sacrifice a certain luxury that you normally do each week, and voila...you're guranteed to watch the Dees play every game interstate!

Isn't the 4 powerhouses of the AFL Collingwood, Essendon, Adelaide and West Coast?
-
Yeah I do. They have premierships to boast, Daniher has none. Most people would only look at premierships when assessing whether a coach is good or not. Pagan was the coach of the "team of the 1990's". ALthough he's had a shocking stint with Carlton, he'll be listed as a 2 time premiership coach on the record books - therefore making him a good coach. Malthouse was the coach of a team who made the finals in every single season of the 1990's, 2 premierships and 2 losing grand finals (Collingwood) - therefore making him a good coach. I realise the current board have a high opinion of Daniher, likewise the more intelligent posters around here. But if ND hasn't achieved a premiership before his career is over - why should he be considered a good coach? Getting to the finals is great, but ND's record in finals series has been as ordinary as Aaron Davey's September performances of late.
-
I hereby nominate this post of the week. Couldn't have summed it up better! Coaches who have been in the game for over 7 years should only be assessed by premierships...that is all. Time may be running out for Bomber and ND.

Any one know when our Intra-Club matches are on? The last two years they've both been at Victoria Park at the stupid time of 10:00 am on a Friday. (Perhaps this is to fit in with the club's Mon/Wed/Fri training format.) I hear Whispering Jack mention in another thread that Moorabin and even TELSTRA DOME!!! have been mooted as possible venues. Apparently we may be hosting a channel 7 dress rehearsal the weekend before the NAB Cup which would be awesome - according to Jack. I'm hoping that a game will be on a Saturday or Sunday before the NAB cup so we can have a look at the Jace Bodes, Heath Nevilles and Danny Hughes (sorry DD36 I couldn't resist;) )

Fair enough. It's just that I've read that Hawthorn might be going in with a very tall forward line, hense most of the defenders in my squad are around 6"3. I've got Bell and CJ coming off the bench to provide a bit of drive off halfback (they can even start on the ground). My foward line is a mixture of height and pace. I'd love to see Newton play a whole game at full foward to show off his wares in front of 8-10,000 MFC fans.

17 year olds can't be drafted as rookies. Therefore is it true that if Weetra was 18 and Hayes was 17, then Hayes would've been selected in the National draft and eligible to play games while Weetra would've been selected as a rookie. I think I heard CAC say something like this on Demonland. As it turned out Weetra was 17 at the time and had to be selected in the national draft. On Aaron Davey, I think too many around here are a little harsh on him, due to his finals performances. Remember you have to play 22 games to get into the finals, and his 3 regular seasons have been first class. Sure he's had 3 poor finals (Ess, Geel and St.Kilda) but he was much improved in the Semi final V Freo and kicked an inspiring goal from the boundary in the second qtr as we charged towards a 16 point lead in the second qtr. A strong finals performances would simply be the icing on the cake for Davey. I'm sure 15 other clubs could only dream about having Davey on their list. We're lucky to have him IMO.

Hello SBS (or Channel 31) - Goodbye Foxtel
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Sydney Pennski's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't get your hopes up mate. We've been promised footy on Fox 3 times over the last 3 months. Consider nothing in the bag as yet. -
I can remember my mate went to tafe with Nathan Brown and Peter Walsh doing a Sports Admin course about 4 years ago.

Flash and Byron to kick off the season
Bring-Back-Powell replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Totally agree. All I care about is looking at the injury report the next morning to ensure Davey and Pickett aren't on there. From memory Davey ripped this game apart 2 years ago with 3 goals
