Viney’s foot is worse than we think
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Dee1987's topic in Melbourne Demons
As in rooted for this year or rooted for the rest of his career? -
I’ll reserve judgment until after round 3 and see if Tom Hawkins and Ben Brown have kicked their obligatory 6 goals each on us.
-
Garlett’s in before Fritsch, Hannan and Bugg...surely!

And furthermore, how does Dangerfield go from doing stationery drills late last week to near certainty by Monday? -

I still can't work out how a player misses just 1 week with a grade 1 hamstring strain? -

Fair call. -
That Melbourne will be participating in the first twilight grand final later in the year.

Dudded once again on FTA into Melbourne
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
As if channel 7 are going to show a Brisbane game while at the same time ignoring one of power clubs of VIC. Brisbane have been on free air about 2 times since 2016. -

But is Brayshaw a certainty if he's available? -
I'd be concerned for the people that would be cancelling their plans of going to the footy based on a predicted rain fall of 0-2 mm (or the equivalent of a 10 minute rain shower)

Bring him back around round 9. Give him a proper 2 month "pre season", 2-3 VFL games and have him primed by mid May. It will probably cost us a win or 2, but we need this bloke fit and firing and playing career best footy in July - August when we'll be trying to make finals while dealing with a horror draw to end the season.

Opposition Watch: Rd 1 vs Geelong
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only way Dangerfield plays against us is if the club is lying (playing ducks and drakes) about him having a hamstring strain, and that he really only has hamstring tightness. The standard recovery for a minor strain is 3 weeks, I keep reading. -
It would be an absolute diabolical failure. So much so that Goodwin's position should be put in question. The media and opposition supporters are talking us up like we're a genuine top 4 side. We have to back that up in order to get some respect. We just simply cannot afford to miss the finals again after the pain, hurt and suffering that the players, staff and supporters endured after that round 23 weekend. It would take a Hogan, Oliver, Gawn, Lever, Petracca type injury affected year to even think about dishing out the excuses.

Some Geelong supporters are actually celebrating that out. -

He may play if they're desperate for him to be out there. They know they're nowhere near as good without him. But you're right. Players only miss 1-2 weeks if it's hamstring tightness or awareness. Danger has a confirmed strain so it's hard to believe he'd come back after missing just 1 week. -

Got this off the Sport Medicine Aust. website: Rehabilitation and return to play As a general rule, Grade 1 hamstring strains should be rested from sporting activity for about three weeks So given they've confirmed he has a low strain, it would be a huge risk him returning in 2 weeks. I get the impression Geelong think they're hopeless without Dangerfield (as evidenced by their bad loss to Sydney last year) and are willing to roll the dice. -

Sounds more and more like Ablett is playing. Apparently it was a minor hammy and the 21 day recovery time would've well and truly expired by round 1. And as if they're going to have Ablett running around in the magoos if he's not injured. -

Forget about Dangerfield, Ablett or Selwood, it’s Hawkins that is the difference between us winning or losing. Like Ben Brown, he completely owns the MFC. He always kicks his 5 or 6 against us. -

Pretty good effort considering his career best is 4. -
Absolutely will not play round 1. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-03-09/key-dee-to-miss-round-one

Viney officially ruled out of round 1 according to Josh Mahoney. So everyone needs to remove him from the side.
-
Anyone know why T Mac isn’t playing? Wouldve thought he and Hogan need to log as many minutes together in the fwd line.
-
For the season opener, is an (match) unfit Viney a better option than a match fit 23rd best player on the list?? That's for the match committee to decide. I'd have him back for round 3. Give him 2 half Casey games followed by a full game on the easter weekend (round 2 AFL). The club should be ultra conservative on this prized asset...unlike last year.
