  1. Here's their discussion of Hardwick if you want to see it:
  2. No it's not as simple as that. Many other clubs have become powerhouses without sustained success. In 2017 Richmond hadn’t won a premiership and hardly made finals in almost 40 years but their membership was over 70,000. The following year, after a premiership, they cracked 100,000, hardly sustained success. Collingwood won one premiership between 1959 and 2009 but have been a powerhouse with a large supporter. Carlton have almost 100,000 members but have been the poorest club in the league since 2000. It's not just sustained success that builds a club, it's something more than that. And we certainly can't blame MCC members, most that I know have dual memberships and every Melbourne based club has a similar issue.
  3. Very disappointing numbers. Looks like we may just limp past last years tally, and will probably need to do some sort of $13 membership special to even get to that point. They way we are playing we should be smashing records by 10-20% a year...
  4. Wow, Freo turning on LJ quicker than I expected! "Fremantle great Paul Hasleby believes his old club would be omitting Luke Jackson this weekend if he wasn’t a big-name recruit." "Jackson hasn’t proven anything really in the AFL. He played a great quarter in a Grand Final, but all of last year, if we’re being brutally honest, it was just average football from him,” he said." https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/03/27/should-luke-jackson-be-omitted-freo-great-ponders-the-ruck-dilemma/
  5. Membership tally sitting on 55,528. We've reached our second highest yearly membership tally at Round 1. Fantastic effort Dees!!
  6. Are we paying his court costs, given that the court awarded in his favour? These guys must have some serious money behind him. Postage and printing alone would be $100k... Costs to go to Supreme Court could be that again. That is dedication!
  7. Ive heard a few commentators saying the potential rule change will benefit Grundy & Gawn working together. Can someone explain why that is?
  8. I like the idea but based on previous years our coaches want players now and will probably go the other way and trade next years picks for this years draft...
  9. WC refusing to give up pick 2 so they are struggling to get a deal done. Regardless, they are still interested which improves our hand at the table when it comes to negotiations.
  10. Got a lot of respect for LJ and the way he has gone about this. Nothing worse than a player who says, 'oh I need to go back home to my home state, but you have to trade me to X club so make it happen'. It's put us in an great position to be able to negotiate with two clubs rather than one. Combined with the fact that he helps us win a premiership he will always be a legend in my eyes. I hope no one boos him next year...
  11. I predicted 66,485!!!! One off, I should have bought an extra ticket for my dog, lol
  12. I was pretty close too. Although I imagine there will be another 1000 or so added before cut off...
  13. The difference in this one is the indigenous aspect. I doubt it would be getting any publicity otherwise.
  14. Haha can't believe I had forgotten about that, thnaks for the reminder!!! Surely this is on Youtube somewhere??
  15. I never thought it was a good idea giving it to him in the first place, Nathan Jones was our captain and deserved to keep it. Taking it off him a couple of years later proved that it was the wrong decision by the club. I don't think we treated him well in that period It's a real credit to the bloke that he stuck fat when we were a basketcase and other clubs came circling for his signature. Trac, Oliver and Brayshaw are all being lauded for 'signing for life' (and so they should), but I'll never forget Viney for being the first.
  16. Great result for Melbourne, well and truly in the top 8 - and growing! Gee, unbelievable how Carlton how have kept their members despite being terrible for so long... I thought Hawthorn's tally would be much higher. Fair whether...?
  17. 65,000 is a huge win for our club, anything above this now is a bonus. No reason why we cant keep this kind of growth gowing for the next few years at least!
  18. Because we were terrible for 57 years! One premiership doesn't automatically bring in 30,000 new members. We need sustained success, continued finals appearances and then we will see strong membership growth each year. And to be fair North only have 46,000 members. Still 15,000 behind us.
  19. I reckon we are keeping our options open in case Brayshaw decides to leave.
  20. Most of that was media beat up and the club defended him strongly at the time. For example, he was criticized for being caught 'drinking in a pub' when all he did was have one beer after breaking up with his girlfriend.
  21. As someone pointed out on SEN this morning - May is berating players as we are about to win a Premiership, but David Noble has to apologise to North players for yelling at them and upsetting them after another embarassing loss... haha
  22. Last year we put on 8000 between now and the end of the season. And at a time when fans knew they wouldn't be able to see a game live in Melbourne. I said at the start of the season, 65k would be a pass, 70k would be a good result.
