Dee Viney Intervention

Big shout out to Tommy Mac and also Kade Chandler for last night. A willingness to compete, work-rate, spread, chase, harass, energy. All non negotiables that I expect from my team. I don’t expect us to win every game but I do want to see effort. Cannot fault these two last night. Well done!!!

Couldn’t agree more. Our list management and match committee this year have been poor. Our list is way too too heavy with NQR talls. Why extend Schache, why then recruit Fullerton. KFW having to play at St Bedes in the Ammo’s because Casey is that tall, which leads to the next point. The cupboard is bare at Casey for pure midfielders. We lose Dunstan, JJ, Harmes and obviously and sadly Brayshaw. Instead of replacing Angus with a kid we go and replace with another tall. Nothing against Kentfield I wish him all the best but from a list management point of view a puzzling decision. Mids must be our focus this off season.

You’d like to think so but we lost to West Coast and were a Kynan Brown tackle away from losing to North. I still haven’t recovered from witnessing that first half of football in the Anzac Eve game against Richmond. That was the worst standard of skill from two professional sporting organisations that I have ever seen. Was a surreal feeling on the train home, it was like both teams lost. We have some good kids coming through. We need a mini reset and look towards the next window which is a few years away. We need to go to the draft and get some midfielders with skill, speed and a high football iq and go from there. The game plan also needs a massive overhaul. Everything about the Melbourne Football Club is conservative. It is a tag we need to shake.

Not too disappointed if true. I genuinely believe our premiership window is closed as others are and have gone past us. Having said that I don’t think we will fall off the cliff either. I think we have a mini reset take our hand to the draft and get some high quality mids to come through with the current crop of youngsters that we have. Obviously need to find a successor to Max. Too big a price to pay for Houston and will ultimately hurt us long term.

Pre season for me, too much noise and rumblings. Thought absence of Gus and Clarrie would have a devastating impact.

My expectation would be that the football department focus on the elimination final and the board make a strong statement about the incident. I would also have liked a response for the “justice has been served comment from McCain. No it [censored] wasn’t. Further to that I would have expected a response from the club the following year that had a player medically retired by the AFL 2 days after the final list lodgement date. Leaving us a player short on the list until the mid season draft. Anything from the club on that. Same as the training base ……..crickets. And at the next game against Collingwood we have players hugging and joking with the [censored] post game. This whole incident from beginning to end was pathetic from all involved players, football department, board and most of all the AFL.

Could have, sorry should have been more vocal over the Maynard / Brayshaw incident. Was pathetic from the whole club. Only one person in the whole club flew the flag over this. Thank you Jack Viney.

Bowey has been poor all year. I don’t entirely blame him as I think he was rushed back into the side after his collar bone injury and should have come back via Casey. On current output alone I would have AMW in the side ahead of him as he has elite speed which is something that we lack, even more so with Windsor out of the side. Bowey getting beaten far too often in the one on ones for mine and has been poor in his decision making and disposal which is why we recruited him. Bowey is no longer the lucky charm and needs a game or two at Casey to get back into some form.

We allow way too much uncontested ball and have done so all year.That first quarter was outstanding, we won clearance but around the ground we hunted the ball. If they were in possession there was manic pressure at the source forcing the turnover. Then from second quarter we start to sag off and play the zone. The zone absolutely has a place and I understand that 4 quarters of manic pressure at the source is hard to sustain but when a team gets a bit of a run on is it that hard to switch modes and lock on and go a hard one on one all over the game to slow that momentum down. We want to be a contest and defence team so make it ugly for a period, lock on all over the ground and have repeat stoppage to deny the opposition the momentum. You cannot allow a team chock full of elite kicks the ability to chip the ball around and constantly pierce your zone. Highlighted by the fact that when chasing a game of football and the Giants go into save game mode we still guard grass. I don’t know if it’s coaching or leadership of a combination of both but there to be better awareness of the situation.

I agree with this. Add to that the mid season draft pick that we used to sadly effectively replace a midfielder we again used a let’s call him a forward that can ruck. Absolutely nothing against Kentfield but seemed bizarre to me at the time when I would have thought bigger priorities were a genuine ruck or pure midfielders as the cupboard is bare at Casey. In my opinion our overall list is extremely unbalanced.

More Seppo [censored]. Agreed only a matter of when not if. Would rather a round of state of origin played mid year than a wildcard round if the AFL wants more football and dollars. But I also know this also won’t happen. Never been more disillusioned with the state of and direction of AFL. It is at the stage that I care more about Junior and local senior football. Wake up Dillon you’re asleep at the wheel.

Far too many in the media deal in opinions and not facts. As for Tom Morris he is a giant skid mark on the y fronts of society.

Quite possibly my favourite player of all time.
