They come to training with a soccer ball. Does that count.

Maybe. But he keeps selecting the same âdumb, low IQ footballers â

Trade Targets
I hope we are right into Max Gruzewski of the Giants. Stuck behind Hogan and Cadman. A few years in the system now and putting up some good numbers in the VFL. Strong mark, strong on lead and a good kick for goal. Not sure Giants would let him go, I mean they wouldnât let Derkson go but I would absolutely be asking the question.

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
Disco is very stiff. Very difficult for tall forwards when your coach / or coaches tactically manufacture a plus 2 in your forward line for the opposition plus your midfielders just blindly bomb the ball in. He can take a grab and kick straight, not too many currently in our forward line ticking those boxes.

Tom Fullarton
I believe Fullertonâs nickname is âcreamâ Might need to change it to sour cream

PREGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
At this stage Iâll be happy to see speed of ball movement, manic forward line pressure and minimal opposition uncontested possession.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
I could post some footage of me during and post game that would get me a lifetime ban on this site and possible time at a country farm prison

Recruiting - where did it all go wrong
If you are a free agent Key Position Forward of any reputeâŠ.. sadly the way we play the only reason you would chose to come to Melbourne is for overs on coin. We simply do not play football suitable for forwards.

POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
For those that donât think the head coach pulls the strings. Do you really think a line coach (Chaplin) would say â Iâve got an idea, take my half forward to push up and tag Holmes. Weâll play one shortâŠ..weâve got thisâ All for the tag but to give them the plus one then not have a plan going forward knowing they had a plus one by having decoy runners or blocks, an overload on a side of the ground to create space to lead into or a short option at the 40 metre mark ie the player originally on Holmes. Itâs unforgivable. You donât get points for winning the inside 50 count on a weekly basis. Donât get me started on allowing an illegal amount of uncontested possession. Unforgivable. Go man on or a split zone or something. I really want to be respectful given that he has delivered us a premiership. He is not the person to take us forward. No reaction to what the game and opposition is giving us during the game. He has too much faith in the system or method even if it is not working and unfortunately it will stamp his papers.

I actually donât mind it, shows he actually is invested and gives a [censored]. He wants what we all want as supporters and that is success. Right now it ainât happening and heâs frustrated and to be perfectly honest so am I.

Actually a good chance that he is leading the votes in the Keith Bluey Truscott medal. Great work ethic and does the little things that many in the team arenât. Chin up!!!!!

GAMEDAY: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Know what you mean. Playing like the Woodstock Demons all love and the skill level and decision making of stoners. Obviously hoping for a win but realistically donât see it happening. Great to see Kozzy and Windsor back in to create a bit of excitement. Be happy to not concede any âred time goalsâ or any goals that go coast to coast untouched by a Melbourne player. Just want to see some heart or at the very least a pulse. Play like Demons FFS!!!!!

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
If it is a case of the tail wagging the Dog then we are in serious strife. We need to get back to being a selfless team and clearly defined roles for players. Of course there is a place for Oliver, Viney and Trac but there needs to be balance. Have said for years that our list has been unbalanced all inside and no outside and a one paced team. Over the last few years we have drafted to address this as well as getting in players with better disposal but the game has shifted quickly to a fast paced transition game and we are extremely late to the party on the shift and are quite literally now chasing [censored] in game and in the competition. I believe we have the personnel now to play the transition game but my issue is what it looks like ahead of the ball ie forwardline. Despite it being a clear weakness over the last 3 years I see nothing that indicates a dramatic change to how it will function, that is not good enough and does nothing to change my belief that Goodwin cannot coach offence.

2025 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Heâs an outside player with good disposal and some tricks, a bit of X factor about him. Fits a need and a type that suits the modern game. Has played senior footy for Devon Meadows in the Mornington Peninsula Football League which is a good competition. Been recognised this year for his leadership which is another bonus.

Harvey Langford Rising Star nomination Rd 3
Congratulations Harvey and well deserved. Will give you a hell of a lot of belief going forward. Nice to have some positive news with our young guns. A rising star award and Xavierâs injury not as bad as it could have been. Hopefully this is the start of better things to come.

PREGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Youâre a trooper. I too unfortunately was at 186. I also was at VFL Park as a young boy and witnessed 190, which surely should qualify me for life membership of the football club. I can confirm that I will not be going for the 3 peat on Friday. Good Luck.

POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
And if that is the case send them to Casey and tell them why, they will Learn pretty quickly. Give those at Casey an opportunity, tell them what you want to see. Player management, performance management, player development and list management as a collective has been poor. The club needs a shake up.

Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
Agree with most of what you have said. We overuse the ball in and coming out of the backline. And the inevitable turnover happens and we concede a score. Honestly I would rather a chaos ball clearing the ball out of the backline out to the wing to the advantage side of Langdon/ Sharp/Chandler/Kozzie/Lindsay (fingers crossed) . But the way we set up ahead of the ball sets us up to fail, there is no imagination. Forwards pushing up the ground so high with no targets forward of the ball. Hold some back which creates space in the midfield / corridor as it would force the hand of the opposition to hold players back. If they play a plus one we need to identify that and have a target 20 metres ahead of the plus one and use the short option instead of blazing away. Our ball Movement is too slow, leading to congestion in our forwardline. Everyone in the AFL has known for years that our forwardline and its functionality and midfield to forward connection has been our Achilles heal. Sick of hearing the same platitudes â we will leave no stone unturnedâ, âneed to be better in all 3 phases of the gameâ etc. Goodwin cannot coach offence. He has coached any attacking flair out of the players and the team as a whole. Nothing has changed here and unfortunately I have no faith that it will. Would need a massive over correction in his mindset to do so. I mean offence based on setting up defensively. Release the shackles and let the players play and have some fun with their football, see what happens.

New coach prospects
Hird is coaching director at Port Melbourne who is coached by Brendan McCarthy. Brendan was great when he was at Melbourne and after spending time Craig Macrae has got a passion for coaching back. Highly respected and a great communicator.

Time to go Goody?
By virtue of our poor 2024 we have received a favourable draw this year. It is early days but to not make finals would be unacceptable. End of story.

PREGAME: Rd 03 vs Gold Coast
Is Bailey Laurie injured. Strange list / player management to have a guy hooked from the Casey game last week at half time and rushed to the MCG as an emergency and this week not even in the squad it would seem Billings takes his place. And we extended his contractâŠ.. why????? Great to see Mentha in the squad and hopefully Langford gets a start this week.
