  1. I like this idea. Get that bloke a flag.
  2. I was thinking the same. 5 needs to earn his stripes, pick 9 complements the existing bench better.
  3. He just said that pick 9 has already requested a trade from Melbourne
  4. Has a mid-season draft recruit who is a KPP ever ‘made it’? Newcombe and Ambrosio as mids the benchmarks for what you can pick up at that time of the year.
  5. Why was he even on the radio? Would’ve thought he’d Be smart enough to realise the only reason they wanted him on was to get a soundbyte about the club’s perils
  6. it would be professionally irresponsible not to dig a bit deeper in light of some of the stuff that has reportedly gone down. His time will come. President and CEO going at once creates a huge hole in leadership capability and experience. Sponsors wouldn’t want that, the board wouldn’t want that, the AFL wouldn’t want that. Like him or hate him, he is important to us right now. We finished 10th and he has a growing list of ‘misses’. Not unreasonable for him to be under pressure.
  7. Where were these ‘people around Clayton’ this time 12 months ago?
  8. Don’t disagree with either comment. What I wrote is by no means statistically significant, but interesting nonetheless in the context of @goodwindees comment about the scope of the internal review.
  9. Not sure what you were expecting? Sounded fine to me.
  10. Reverse death ride! Our tussles with Fremantle are more interesting off the field. Lamby knows what the people want.
  11. But hey, they don’t get as many ‘nice guy points’ as we do, right? Where can we redeem those nice guy points by the way?
  12. John Noble is being massively overrated this trade period. Wasn’t in there best 22 12 months ago yet all of a sudden the pies want more for him than what we want for Nibbler
  13. World’s-hairiest-bum-in-flames
  14. The Jackson FIX replied to SthSea22's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Someone Giants-related spoke about this scenario the other day in the media (I am going to say it was Bartel but can’t remember) - they have a growing problem with young players they’re developing putting their hand up and saying they're either homesick or looking for more opportunity… the insinuation was this isn’t an issue for southern- states teams. Their stance might be less about Diggler specifically and more about sending a message to their playing list.
  15. I don’t disagree Salary caps were smaller back then (I think). It raises the point though; compensation - or at least I believe - is about looking after sides who are losing players in free agency beyond their control ie to successful sides in a premiership window, as much as it is a size of contract thing… I think that is where the ‘special herbs and spices’ come in, there are some elements beyond salary size/contract length that determine compensation.
  16. Battle is a few years younger and is ‘rarer’ in terms of the position he plays. Stk looked after a bit with the compo, yes, but the contrast to what we’ll get for Nibbler isn’t outrageous
  17. I felt the same when I watched it too but on reflection I think it was more a comment intended to educate/curb their future actions than it was a misguided belief of how they actually act.
  18. It’d be a TOUGH gig for an untried coach not just because of the apparent rabble at board/admin level but because the incumbent coach is much-loved by all of our best players (some of whom are already attempting to bail on us)… Adam Simpson or dare I say it Nathan Buckley seems like a more obvious fit given our situation. Although not sure we could afford a big name if we asked Goodwin to leave and had to pay him out
  19. They might consider this if JT was excited about a player he thinks wouldn’t slide to pick 5, however… Appears the play this draft is volume of picks in the first 1-2 rounds as opposed to improving on our pick 5
  20. Probably more where I was angling. wondering whether Dees have/had been pushing for a Neale or a TDK and the Cats pushed back and this latest play was more a ploy to get the to up the offer
  21. Have your thoughts on the likelihood of a deal changed since the events of Friday (reported that the Dees have knocked deal on the head + Brad Green saying he’ll be there round 1) or was that just posturing from the club to make Geelong stump up more?
  22. I know of a premiership coach (within the last decade) who shared privately (not to me, admittedly) that he was astonished Goody had kept his job, something along the lines of ‘he’s just too close to his players’… whilst he didn’t elaborate, the feeling was he was saying ‘fun guy’ who doesn’t know the line between coach/boss and friend. Separately, I have heard from a player (directly) that goody is only the ‘much-loved coach’ to select players. If you’re a fringe player, you’re probably not one of goody’s ‘favs’ and you also then end up on the outer socially with him.
  23. Been waiting for the Alex Dodson thread to come along and give me hope again!
  24. Not when J Taylor is behind the wheel. Only B Prendergast was capable of creating that mess
  25. Yeah but you could end up with a Fyfe or a Cripps or a C Curnow
