Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
We’re making Clarry captain?
-
Sam Flanders
The news about Oliver this morning being told of ‘a new role he may not like’ must be linked to our pursuit of Flanders. Separate story emerging that ‘it is about the role, not the money for Ned’ too closely aligned to our ‘snap meeting’ with Clayton

Rumours
Calling a 20yr who was an elite junior bog ordinary is rough. He mightn’t work out but he’s worth the risk at the price for his age in a role that we are short on.

We’ll be paying a fair whack of his cash that way. Will be anyway if he is going to GC, they’re going to need $$ for Ben King next yr

Rumours
I actually don’t mind this. We have poor midfield depth as it is and we are about to lose Trac. Tsatas would come cheap and he has clear upside. Poor disposal, I understand. But he is depth that we’re not giving away much for.

I love the ‘I’ll burn/throw away/ microwave my membership’ crew. We all know one. High cross-over with ‘people who are happily stopped on the street by a TV crew to share my views on a current affair’.

Training Ground?
Relevant player managers would be let into the tent on progress, wouldn’t worry too much about an announcement in relation to impact on trade period.

This is what they were saying today on trade radio also. Backended.

I like May, he is a premiership hero. Never forgotten. But he is a notorious goose. He’s been punched in the head by two separate teammates at different stages of his career for goodness sake!

Vince was a bit of a larrikin. May, on the other hand , has a long and well-known rap sheet.

No, he isn’t the devil, but he is also not a great cultural addition to any club, let alone one with young impressionable players. And he’s 3 years older than his premiership year and showing signs of decline. One for a more experienced club who can handle him I would have thought.

As long as we don’t end up with a Dutch oven

Not sure I’d want him playing alongside the young list they have if I was North Melbourne

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Adelaide supporters on Twitter getting VERY worked up by a ‘vic-centric’ narrative on his value. I suppose the Crom don’t really know anymore what a premiership player looks like, let alone a norm smith medalist so I understand their inability to appropriately value Christian.

Isn’t the whole point that we need players outside that bracket for a more balanced list?

Discussion this morning on SEN made me realise we are somewhat fortunate Trac’s new manager doesn’t manage a stable of players, removes one potential element for the club getting screwed ie we have no need to keep Trac’s manager sweet

Trade Targets
I am a realist and there is no way the club accept 1st rounder + Pedlar, not even if they pay every cent of Trac’s contract (which they won’t).

The request from Adelaide was always ‘2 first rounders’ for a bloke in a position that was in vogue. In fact, their negotiations jumped around drafts, eventually landing on a first in one draft and then another first in a separate draft after they rejected a first and a second in the 2018 draft (which was considered one of the better drafts of the last couple of decades). Adelaide ended up trading us a few later upgrades just so they could secure their arbitrary ‘2 first rounders’.

Farewell Judd McVee
If he is Jye Amiss at Freo he’ll be Jye A-out-of-bounds-on-the-full in our side

At least he is speaking to two clubs. Genuinely believe the Dees have said if you want out of here then don’t come back to us with just one club to deal with.

Feels about right. Not sure 14 + 3rd rounder would get Flanders done though if the Saints are offering 7

I’d be shocked if a good young player is involved in any deal. Adelaide would have to agree to it and then we’d have to convince a young player in a side contending for a flag to come to a rebuilding club
-
Farewell Judd McVee
We’re only talking about a scenario where the offer is completely unreasonable. Last year when the cats were lowballing the dogs, as a neutral I would’ve viewed Geelong as the irresponsible party if a deal didn’t get done. I think over the long term, net net the club would be better to stand their ground in unreasonable scenarios.

Farewell Judd McVee
I agree we ain’t getting a first rounder for him but for a pick near the 30s in a compromised / weak draft I’m not against the idea of sending Judd into the draft if/when Freo low-ball us. Send a message to the comp that we’re not going to roll over in these scenarios. I reckon Dogs were close to doing this last year with Smith, the return was just a bit too much to throw away.

The hypothetical trades for Petracca and Merrett are miles apart… Merrett commanding a decent player + 2x first rounders but Trac barely able to muster a second first rounder…. Largely, I believe because Hawks want Merrett and they have a lot to give. Crows want Trac and they have nothing to give. Would be nice if Hawks were back in the Hunt for Trac
