  1. Some people in this thread think he’s not in our top five players. He’s actually come in the top 10 in the coaches award twice. By my reckoning, that puts him in at least the top 20 players in the league. IMH0 he is the best inside mid we’ve had since Barassi. We have to keep him.
  2. Well, I was at the game, and there are certainly were a lot of mistakes. But it seemed to me that they are trying out a new game plan around the midfield: trying to hold the ball a bit longer and work really hard to get it outside. It’s not completely working yet and I think that’s why we got beaten up the clearances, but it might be a good plan in the long term. Absolutely great to see Jetta back in formed and as everyone has commented, May and Lever were unbelievable. But so many whingers: do you actually barrack for this team or not?
  3. Well, Lever is certainly playing like the player we hoped he would be!
  4. If they were smart they would use Daisy Pearce more. IMHO One of the most perceptive commentators I’ve heard.
  5. IIRC, 2 Brownlow votes in his first game. My Demonland name says what I think.
  6. The really bad thing about this rule change and all rule changes is the AFL never never never never NEVER admits they got it wrong - eg nominating a ruckman.
  7. Neither does Ben Brown but he isn’t on the list.
  8. In the media reports, Daisy Pearce is not amongst our best players. Ridiculous! Looks like, like Robbie flower, she will be the victim of expectations that she will play like a champion each week so when she does, it is not even noticed.
  9. As supporters we are all loyal. But how can we expect our players to feel like we do, when clubs give no loyalty to their players: look at OMac and the attempts to get rid of his brother. It starts with the draft, when a young man is recruited regardless of who he barracks for wants to play for. And on this site I have seen it seriously suggested that we get rid of Gawn, FFS! So where is loyalty supposed to come from? As I remember it, in an attempt to tank we once played Chip on the forward line, making him look, and no doubt feel, foolish. I don’t blame him leaving for greener pastures. The club’s job is to make OUR pastures green enough. And we should try to convince our players that one-club players get something in tangible in terms of the love of their supporters. That is an attractive asset, it seems to me,
  10. I love that grand final footage. I am definitely an old timer and while the skill in the modern game is fantastic, the haphazard kicking back then meant there was a real contest in each position between players, and that was a delight to watch. As for long goals, I can remember Bryan Kenneally taking the ball from a centre bounce ruck contest at the G, running four or five steps and kicking a goal with a torpedo.
  11. Love reading all of this. People describe Barassi and Flower so well. I saw a lot of Flower, a little bit of Barassi and everything I’ve read, I agree with.
  12. Ps I was there when he kicked that goal against Collingwood, blind turning to avoid getting nailed as he got the ball. Totally freakish.
  13. Just a beautiful player. I saw him many times. This year there has been a bit of talk about Clarrie not doing as well as expected in the Bluey Truscott. Robbie won ONE, while his teammate Laurie Fowler (a good serviceable player) won THREE. Which shows that medals are meaningless.
  14. My wish would be for TMAC to stay and prove everyone wrong, and also for the club to make sure that AVB realises he is a wanted and valued player, despite what was in the papers.
  15. And to think - we towelled them up
  16. I agree so much with AF about Clarrie. The best true midfielder we’ve had since Barassi. To improve: RE-SIGN Burgo for 5 years!!! Then : Get a decent midfield coach - with the players we have, we should dominate clearances, but their systems of working together don’t really exist. Try to lift the quality of our 15-25 ranked players. Teach the players two forgotten arts: the smother and the shepherd.
  17. And all with a pretty ordinary list... He was a super coach
  18. He’s taken about five marks in the forward 50. Yes, his kicking his crap but that can be changed.
  19. Jack Viney is the toughest, most committed footballer we’ve had since Junior Macdonald or even earlier. For once Garry Lyon is 100 percent right. Jack Viney absolutely thrives when the going is tough. We’d be mad not to fight to keep him - and make him feel valued in the process.
  20. Lockhart out.
  21. Quite simply, the weakest team we have named all year.
  22. Funny, I was going to say exactly the reverse. One thing that I really noticed how many changes are made each week, even when the team had one by substantial margins. Of course, this thread hasn’t told us what the injuries were each week. The other thing that stands out reading the thread overall is how important Barassi was. To my mind, Clarrie is the best midfielder we have had since the great RDB.
  23. Oliver’s disposal hasn’t always been great, but sometimes it has and he’s at least getting a lot of the ball. our problem is, we only have one big sized forward – McDonald – and he is out of form. They need to start playing a second tall forward!!
  24. A lot of people being critical! Our effort is good, our midfield well on top, just poor delivery too often.
  25. Gawn v Grundy?? Grundy loves to tap it straight to the opposition!!
