  1. Go read the 4 pillars thread and you'll see why he's not for us, he only meets one requirement. The harm could be a lot, keep banging on with nonsense all you want but he won't be in red and blue next year, not gonna happen. I don't understand where you lot get the idea that we have a culture strong enough to pull blokes like Garlett into line, we haven't even got there with Sylvia yet.
  2. Wishful thinking, how about adding some flexibility to your thinking. He's a culture sore and would be the last thing we need now, if we select him I won't renew. It would prove this club has learnt nothing and wants a [censored] culture. All you morons that want him want our club to be [censored]. Meet our 4 pillars or GTFO
  3. Wouldn't touch Garlett with a 10 ft pole. We're building a culture but I don't think it's strong enough yet to bring in culture sores and try to turn them around. I voted Colquhoun, was keen on him after watching a few games of the champs. He kept getting his hands on the ball and almost always used it well. The knock on him would be he was a receiver and from memory didn't win a lot of his own ball. Nelson is another I'd be keen on, had a very good year in the WAFL and worked hard on his weaknesses from all reports I've read. I'm still o/s and can't watch vids on the wifi I've been getting, but I read that Neeld is keen to go youth with these picks to develop them. Colquhuon and Nelson would fit that mould with our first pick. I think we need another small forward as well with one of the picks.
  4. I love the idea of Toumpas and Watts playing as back flanks, finally some decent delivery out of the backline. I'm with Bub on the 22 though, way too much water to flow under that bridge before you can make an informed call.
  5. Viney coming up, great night for the Dees
  6. Still no Grundy, he's going to be a bargain
  7. Can't believe we got him, I'd given up hope after the carnival. Well done MFC and welcome aboard Jimmy.
  8. I just want us to finish above Richmond and North and I'll be happy. My brothers barrack for those two clubs and I was sure we'd have their measure a couple of years ago and spruiked accordingly, only to have it bite me on the arse last season. It'd be nice to round them both up next year.
  9. And I'm bloody happy about that too. I still would've used pick 3 if GC nominated him.
  10. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/quigleys-2012-mock.980920/ Very detailed descriptions that don't gloss over weaknesses, he's a bit more brutal in his assessments. He has us taking Wines but I loved his write up on Viney which I'll throw in to get people salivating. Also he doesn't rate O'Rourke very highly and has him going at 16. It's just another opinion, we've all got em but I thought some might be interested Jack Viney DOB: 13/4/94 Ht: 178 Wt: 82 Is head and shoulders the best inside mid in this draft and is exactly the type of player that Gold Coast need for the midfield. He was well worth the number 2 pick it’s just a shame that they didn’t bid for him. Instead he goes to Melbourne at 26. I am very jealous as he would be the kind of player who Brisbane ideally need. People always talk about Viney’s inside game but tend to overlook his outside skills. Viney is an excellent accumulator of the ball and will rack them up at the next level. He is a kid who works his butt off to spread from clearances and is smart enough to get to good spots. I don’t think he has a natural feel for where to run but he is a smart enough footballer to work it out and then go. He is a big gut runner and taggers at junior level are not able to keep up with him and he tends to get a lot of football that way. This is also a kid who steps up in the big occasions. He was excellent at the Champs when the games were being decided and even going back to last year it is worth noting that he 34 possessions in the TAC GF. Viney is not a natural endurance athlete but watching him play you can see him turning himself into a runner by sheer force of will. His gut running is as good as I have seen at this level and he runs until he is out of steam. At the moment his first halves are much stronger than his seconds because he has run himself into the ground in the first half. I don’t mind that though and as he continues to work on it the longer into games he can go running to his full capacity. He is a kid who constantly challenges himself to go further and harder and this will stand him in good stead as his career develops. A lot of inside mids tend to start their careers as poor kicks. This should not be a problem for Viney. He is a left footer who uses it well, particularly in the short to intermediate ranges. He is capable of drilling a nice low kick into his forwards when required. He has reasonable penetration and the weight on his kicks is similarly pretty good without being elite. He is pretty one-sided with his right foot having little penetration or accuracy. Pace wise Viney is reasonable. He gets up to speed very quickly and shows a nice burst. His does not have the top end of some of the speedsters in this draft but he has the awareness to get the ball away before he is caught. Viney uses his burst of pace very well in tight to charge through contests or through someone trying to tackle him. He is also fairly agile despite his wrecking ball reputation and his agility, pace and strength make his a difficult proposition to tackle. You often hear people talking about putting your head down when you chase and that is literally what Viney does quite often. When he is without the ball and needs an extra effort to chase down a player of the ball the head will go down and he will give it his all. To see that kind of effort would be pretty inspiring for his teammates. On the inside Viney is an elite talent without question. He is not wedded to any particular ball winning style but will mix it up depending on what works. Sometimes he will start on the outside and attack the contest at pace, sometimes he will sit at the rucks feet. Whatever is going to get him the ball. He reads the ball of the rucks hands very well and has clean quick hands himself. He has excellent awareness of who is around him and excels at getting the ball out to his receivers. As mentioned he is very difficult to tackle and he uses his strength to hold his feet well and does not panic. When he has some momentum going into a contest he will regularly bust tackles, push men off and come out the other side. When an opposition player gets the ball he is a very good tackler and wraps up the man and ball nicely. He has a low centre of gravity and looks like he has done a fair bit of wrestling training in his time. Viney broke his jaw earlier in the year and was out for 7 weeks which did disrupt his season a bit. Despite that he was one of the players of the Champs and showed all what kind of a player Melbourne is getting. Melbourne need a cultural change and with the clean out underway getting a kid like Viney in will only expedite the transition. Anyway happy reading for those that are interested.
  11. Cheers QB, that means 3 in the arvo here, I'll have to find a good wifi link so I can listen on the radio, this place will be in it's usual draft day meltdown and I'll struggle to get on. Damn, I really want Toumpas in red and blue but if Hackdorn reckons he'll slide he's a monty to go top 2.
  12. I've been keen on Toumpas since mid season, if he's somehow available and we don't pick him I'll be very disappointed. Got a question and might as well ask it here, I'm still o/s but out of Burma and have much better internet access. I still can't find the time of the draft on the AFL site, can someone give me a heads up.
  13. I don't know about the club but my head is well and truly in the sand. I'm in Myanmar atm and the interwebs are painfully slow and unreliable in this part of the world. For some reason land is one of the slowest sites I've tried from here, the only ones slower are the club and AFL sites. I'm suffering some serious withdrawals, I need a footy fix bad. Never thought I'd say this but I really miss you guys, and the endless banter that is demonland. Don't miss any other luxury from home, but travelling for the end of the trade period through till after the draft has been hard so far and draft day is going to be a killer. Anyway someone give me a spray for going off topic, then get back to pillorying ADC and this new bloke and I'll rejoin the conversation in December. Go Dees!
  14. This post will be read by more people than anything Denham has ever written. Go and write something on the toilet wall at work and it will have a bigger audience than Denham. If he wasn't on SEN nobody would know he exists.
  15. One acted like a professional and the other behaved like a 4 year old child who wasn't given a lollipop. Moloney didn't have an off year he had a year long dummy spit.
  16. Fair enough ADC, but why comment now? Using that logic we could have traded in Ablett , Pendlebury and Selwood and got Goddard and Lake as free agents and you still wouldn't be happy. Proof in the pudding and all that
  17. Barrett says Dawes will make a decision tonight. His "breaking news" was that Brisbane are interested, they don't call him the purple headed warrior for nothing.
  18. Ox just reported Wellingham to WC for pick 17. Hope it's true, I have no interest in Sharrod.
  19. I wasn't sure about waiting a year for this kid but Ben's sales pitch and his combine results won me over. Great burst speed, excellent endurance and a massive frame that loves body contact. I asked the question a while back, does anyone know the kids intentions next year? Will he finish school in Perth or is he coming over here?
  20. I would have done exactly what the club did and what it would have done had Jack been nominated, but you think I'm Todd Viney so I guess it was my call anyway, moron.
  21. I thought the club handled this impeccably from start to finish. Plenty of posters around here should apologise for the nonsense they've flung at the club during this entire saga. Claims that the club have been incompetent have been rife in this thread and only served to prove the ignorance of the fools that posted them.
  22. Was it really necessary to merge all the Viney threads? Lost my place in th thread and have to trawl through 100+ pages to find it on my phone. Thanks for that
  23. What's the difference between Denham and Bigfooty? Bigfooty occasionally gets something right.
  24. A question I have about Hogan is will he be in our system next year or will he want to finish school in Perth. Like others I see a few risks with using such a high pick on an underage KPP and this is offset a bit If we have him at Aami park and can put a year into him.
