  1. We've got the best jumper in the league and the best clash strip in the league. I wouldn't be looking to make any changes.
  2. Don’t mess with Mr Inbetween
  3. This time last year we all would have considered Windsor to be a massive reach, and that's worked out pretty well, so reach away I say. I have no doubt JT will reach for the name of whoever he has highest on his board regardless of media/bigfooty groupthink. Other "reaches" he's made like Oliver, Jackson, Kozzy and Caleb have been great picks. It's so good to have faith in our drafting these days. I'd love Lalor or Jagga to fall to us but if they were available and JT read out another name I wouldn't be bothered at all because I'd back in our drafting dept every time.
  4. I've just got off the phone to the club to tell them, for the third year in a row, that I've never consented to, nor do I want auto renew. I get my partner and mothers memberships and we like to decide on our membership level a bit closer to the season when we've got a better idea roughly how many games we'll be able to get to. It's very frustrating and I'm not sure I will renew, pretty [censored] off tbh.
  5. Have heard this rumoured and am curious to know peoples thoughts. Personally I'd do it. I know it's not ideal to wait another year for an early pick while we're in our window but it's potentially pick 1 next year, hard to see it not being top 3 at least. If you chose depends who is available let us know who you want in the comments.
  6. I can't see any reason for WC to trade P1 before draft night. The AFL would love nothing more than a live trade of pick 1 on the night and there's no need for WC to be in any rush. We've clearly gone all in but there's still time for North or the hawks to up their offers.
  7. I don't know how to do the embed video thing but I've been singing the chorus of Joyride by Roxette a lot this season, slightly reworked the lyrics though. Freo, you fools I love you C'mon join the deathriiiiiiide join the deathride
  8. 4,15 and 23 would mean pretty much a straight swap, Jackson for Reid. I could live with that if JT decides its worth it.
  9. At the coaches talk I went to the other night as soon as it got to questions Richo spoke up and said he'd preempt the question they get at every one of these talks and address the home base issue. He said they don't have much to do with it and they have no idea on any progress but just said they'd like to see it done, wherever. They all agreed that the boys don't mind travelling to Casey because it's a quality facility. Other clubs like Essendon and Hawthorn have moved away from traditional areas to have a world class facility, they don't care so much where it is but rather how good the facilities are. Got the distinct impression they couldn't care less about being in the MCG precinct.
  10. Sorry to be a bit slow but this is my first chance to post for a couple of days. Not going to add anything to yesterdays training reports as it was a very light session but I did get to a members chat/coaching seminar in Seymour on Monday night. Goody, Choco, Richo and Ooze spoke and answered questions for local members and budding coaches for an hour and a half. The players and coaches did a clinic for the local youngsters right up to under 18's beforehand and with the main oval in Seymour still closed since the flood, the clinic happened at the oval across the road from my place. Didn't know the clinic was there and got a massive surprise to walk out the front door Monday arvo and see Max, Tracc and Clarry running around. I had seen Josh Schache running laps on that oval during the summer break and commented to a fellow local demon that he was the first Melbourne player I had seen running around town since I was a kid worshipping local blokes Russell Richards and Mick O'Sullivan. Just a few weeks later and the whole squad show up. I was more than a little chuffed. So anyway, on to the important stuff, what the coaches said. They said both Max and Grundy will spend time forward but Goody also said Max was knackered at the end last year, he's not young anymore, and they don't think he can play 25 games and still be cherry ripe at the pointy end. Expect to see him "managed" a bit throughout the year. Also talked up Schache"s preseason and improvement in his ruck work, said he'll definitely get opportunities. They also said Clarry and Trac were pretty beat up at the end of last year at hinted at more mid rotation and possibly more bench time to have them cherry ripe for finals. Goody is a massive Petty fan and said he could be one of the great defenders of the game, better than Maysie. He acknowledged that was a huge call but all the coaches were very strong in their praise of Petty. They also said great teams start with a great defence and they believed ours is up there with the best in the comp and that is largely due to the big 3 May, Lever and Petty and they aren't keen to break that up to send Petty forward. They said Van Rooyen will play but not necessarily round 1. Choco was very strong on not only do recruits have to be ready for the rigours of AFL footy but they have to go past the player who has their spot in the team. He said BBB kicked six in match practice last week and TMac is moving really well so there is real competition for KPF spots. It sounded like Hunter was a monty to play round 1 and they see him as best 22. They hinted at something being missing last year. Hunger, intensity, desire, the intangibles were off right from preseason. It was something I noticed in games all last year. Our attack at the man and the ball and our intensity just weren't at 2021 levels. They said it is back this year with interest. Also said their analysis showed we were struggling in the back half last year and we weren't any near what is required to win a premiership and there will be more effort to keep the list fresh. Emphasised it was a delicate balance but they ned to give the young blokes opportunities. So I think we should expect to see more changes week to week than last year which is a good thing. Some of the more coaching related questions gave interesting insights as well. Goody was asked about turning around our culture from what it was when he first arrived and he told a story where a player said to him after they just missed finals in 2020 that the team just didn't have enough players with the will to win. Goody asked him how many he thought had it and he said he thought maybe 12. Goody then asked him how many he thought there was at the club when he first arrived and his answer was 2. Goody said if the 12 of you put in the work and have a massive preseason maybe we'll have 14 by the end of it. Win a few games early and maybe there will be 18 by midseason and 22 by finals. Goody was very big on trying to get everyone on board, inclusion and respect seem to be the major drivers. If players feel wanted, respected and that they have a voice they'll buy into the team first ethos necessary to turn a talented list into a premiership one. I think it was Choco who singled out one of the young fellas who had been at the clinic and had hung around to listen to the coaches afterwards. He asked the young bloke if he was the one who ran 150 metres when the session finished to thank Goody and the other coaches for their time. Choco said they had all been impressed by that and even the players had mentioned it as a Melbourne thing to do. Goody was asked at one point how much he got out of study trips abroad and seminars and the like and he said you never know but hope for a few good insights, but stressed to the upcoming coaches that they don't always cost thousands. He said one of the best he ever did was a $60 internet webinar during covid which I think he said was more for business. It was about valuing and respecting your employees and getting better results, "immersing them in the river." I left feeling the club is in good hands and pretty bullish about the season ahead. Go you bloody demons!
  11. Then there’s 0 chance I boo him for the rest of his career.
  12. So Luke has no say on walking to the psd. I think you’re wrong
  13. I’m fine with Lever, he made sure Adelaide were well compensated by us. As long as Dogga does the same by us there won’t be any I’ll will from me. If he walks to the psd I’ll boo him for the rest of his career. It’s up to him

  15. Is the 12 digit number in the email my barcode or is it the 8 digit member number in the app?
  16. Not sure JVR has the tank to play the TMac role just yet but we might be forced to find out. If we want to to get back to the structure that won us a flag, 2 talls and a resting ruck forward, we could try giving Weid a couple of weeks in the resting ruck role and challenge Jackson to play as a permanent forward in the TMac role. Jackson has the tank to get up the ground and is a better contested grab than Tmac. Gawn plays full time ruck with Weid giving him a chop out for 5 minutes a quarter. Gawn can park himself behind the ball and mark everything.
  17. You need to introduce this fella to demonland picket. We can use all the trackwatchers we can get.👍
  18. Wouldn't mind getting our hands on the pies future second, I'd trade all our picks (33 45 & 57, 1092pts) for their future 2nd and pick 48 (302pts). If they finish lower than 13th we're ahead and it should give them enough to get their stuff done. We use 48 and pick up Woey jr and AM_W cheap, maybe upgrade a rookie or two. We could end up with picks 18 and 19 next year to load up on kids with exposed form.😉
  19. I’d be optimistic and excited for what’s ahead, but not satisfied. Only a flag will satisfy me
  20. It's possible that 3 of 4 games in the first week of finals could be replays of round 23 games. Us v cats, port v dogs and Brissie v West Coast. Would be a strange week 1 if it falls that way.
  21. The worst , most biased umpiring I've ever seen was us v port in the last game at football park. This is a close second. I hate whinging about umpires but this is absolutely disgraceful.
  22. First chance to get to a game since 2019, haven't been this excited about going to the footy since 2018 finals. Get to see Kozzie, LJ and Riv live, and Langdon burn up and down the mcg wing for the first time. Going with a Geelong supporting mate and wondering if anyone knows how we get tickets together? Do I need to wait for GA to be available and will I still be able to enter the barcodes for me and the missus? Bugger all info available, rang the club but nobody was home.
  23. Made a $1000 bet 9 years ago that we’d win a flag within a decade. Last year of the bet this season. Hope this article is correct.
  24. I've been thinking about the compressed fixture lately and wonder if it could possibly be the way back to a fair and even competition? It would require an absolute revolution in the way we do footy. For decades the AFL has prioritised profit over an even comp but this could be a way to even the comp and increase profits. If we scrapped the preseason comp and started the season on the first weekend in March and ended it on the last weekend in August there'd be 26 weeks of regular season. If you compress each round to 5 days you could fit 36 rounds into the 26 weeks. Every club could play every other club twice and have room for 2 byes during the year. The AFL would need to make sure there are minimum 4 day breaks between games. To make it work you'd need to keep the shortened quarters, probably shortening them a bit more to 15 minutes plus time on. List sizes would need to stay at least as big as they are now and coaches would need to manage players like they do in the big soccer leagues. A 22 round season of 20 minute quarters is 1760 minutes of regular time. A 34 round season of 15 minute quarters in 2040 minutes of regular time. It's pretty much an extra 3.5 games of footy each club in terms of minutes played. 198 game season becomes a 306 game season and there is a game of footy on tv and radio every day from early March until late August. It would be a six month non stop festival of football every season. The shorter games would likely please broadcasters and there is an extra 108 games to sell. It could be the cash injection they need to keep revenue somewhere near pre cold levels. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Is it too much footy? Too hard on the players? Could it work?
  25. Don't bother with the minions, we need to organise a meeting with the umpires boss and one man rules committee. Hope Clarko can find time in his schedule.
