That was likely due to COVID related supply chain issues.

That’s $2M bucks right there at least.

Imagine if we managed to snare Larkey away from NMFC.

I dont think its the forwards themselves although they probably are somewhat part of the problem with their leading patterns. To me its either game-plan / instructions from coaching staff and delivery into the forward line i..e the hold kick it long to the scoring zone.

I can understand your logic and i agree that we are standing to address one of our vulnerabilities in kicking. Time will tell whether we make use of the acquired talent and whether that starts to address some of f50 connectivity issues with a revised game plan. It was clear against Richmond we were hell bent on going through the corridor resulting in a lot of turnovers. So there is clearly some way to go.

I watched a few mins on kayo a few moments ago and North are really moving the ball very well - they look very sharp with the ball movement. CFC were missing a fair chunk of their players though and pressure on the ball was nowhere near AFL level. The game followed a similar pattern to ours in that Pies got off to a flyer and North then kicked 7 straight. Lets see how much focus this gets from the media.. My guess is that it will be glossed over and not receive anywhere the same amount of attention as our game did.

Where will the Dees finish after round 24?
Gawndy the Great replied to binman's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can only go by what I have seen so far and that doesn’t bode well for us when you consider injuries and the off season drama. Whilst the option wasn’t there I have us somewhere in 6-10. Which if recent history tells us anything is only 2 wins and some % points between those positions . Compared to 16 wins in 2023, I think we will drop a few more this year and end up 11-12 mark. Given the extra round this year puts us at risk at missing finals. -
PREGAME: Practice Match vs Carlton

Sam Walsh unlikely to play against us and is on a modified program due to back soreness. Gee if he needs to have more surgery on his back the blues chances are just about cut in half. -
Matthew Lloyd Worried About the Dees in 2024
Gawndy the Great replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nailed it. It’s hard to be the most successful version of yourself at the best of times. Throw in a handful players with off field issues, a long injury list with a lot of players with limited prep, an aging and somewhat worked out game plan. We are definitely behind the 8 ball this year and deserve the media criticism and hype around falling out of the 8. -
Would be curious to overlay set shots from corridor vs pockets during those two games.

I think the Blues are the most likely (at this stage) to snare the premiership in '24. They go toe-to-toe with us midfield wise, but have the best 1-2 KF combo in the AFL by a long way. They are still vulnerable defensively, which is their main weakness - if Vossy has managed to fine tune that over pre-season, then watch out. Expecting them to give us a bit of a reality check next week.

I think now that wasn’t the best choice.

This is what has me worried to. It’s a praccy game sure. What a great opportunity to put our prior learnings on stopping goal runs to practise. Where were the leaders today to do this?
-
Maynard like hit on Kolt in front of goal. What are the odds . The other bloke should get rubbed out for that. lets see if the new rules will be applied.
-
Clayton ok.
-
I find these statements amusing. One could be said about our opponent - they have a new coach with a new plan and arguably more impactful players missing. They have all the more reason to lose this praccy game.
-
My main observation is that we don’t have the skill to be a fast ball movement team. Boundary and pack based play with f50 territory will be 1 wood. Windsor, Brown look good but will take 1-2 years to really acclimate, but I think they’ll add to our team. Rivers, Laurie, Billings, Tomo, May,ANB, Fritta, Langdon were disappointing today. I think Goodwin will be sweating after first 5 rounds.

We look terrible. Getting absolutely dominated.
-
He has been atrocious. May not much better though. Lever the only real stand out in defence.
-
Yes true, but what a great time to trial plans to stop a run-on or get some composure. That is the concern - we just look lost.
-
And Windsor done to top it off after 9 straight conceded goal.
-
It took Yze 15 minutes to work out the game plan and tear us a new one.
-
Defence is woeful. But expected with the all out attack and risk taking. Getting smashed in contest.
