  1. Ha Ha I found it quite amusing to be honest & let's face it, good bloke or not....he's right. We shouldn't have got rid of him in the first place & as TGR said, he's an AA when in good form. One of the best aeralists the games ever seen, reads the play exceptionally well & a very good kick. Collingwood have shown more faith in him than we did......
  2. I agree DD Players have more than one role & to think otherwise is just rediculous. Lever's skill level needs improving, that's obvious, but once he builds consistency & strings a few more games together then I suspect this will improve. He has the added pressure of $800k per year so 2020 needs to be a good one for 'Tickets'....
  3. Agree demon3...... Max & Clarry are the only ones that warrant a top 50 selection in my opinion & daylight after that. Trac has the potential & probably Viney close but a good year for those 2 could see them an automatic selection in future years.
  4. Ha ha Yeah that may be getting a little carried away but good to see 'Tickets' & May show some solid form nevertheless.....Just hope they both stay injury free as that will be a major factor in our success.
  5. Solid performance by the lads but let's not get carried away. Really impressed with Lockart & Fritta with Bedford showing some promise.....Tomlinson & Langdon played how you'd expect 5 year players plus to play. (Hopefully they can sustain that level throughout the season) Backline looked ok, however, coming up against one of the quickest & exciting forward lines in round 1 will test them. Good position to be in going into the season.
  6. Couldn't agree more WWSW.....Not only has the club, in its wisdom, applied the blowtorch to Goodwin with its lofty predictions for this year & beyond, but after a disastrous 2019 SG is going to need to be 50/50 at least by the bye to have some security for the future...... I know our club is searching for more members & needs to provide confidence for its current supporters but SG would have to be the AFL coach who is under the pump the most going into this season.
  7. Left to right: Nut, May, Clarry, Jetta, Max, Viney, Trac, T Mac & Goodwin
  8. I agree totally SWYL Shouldn't be throwing others under the bus when under his reign we were clearly one of the worst teams in the comp last season. I hope for his sake that we have a much improved year.
  9. An encouraging result yesterday although the cows had a number of players out too (Walker, B Smith, Seedsman, Hartigan, Knight, Fogerty & Jenkins, Greenwood, Keath & Betts moved on) so like most, not getting carried away..... The biggest positive for me was AVB. This guy is a bull & I think will have more impact than most if he can stay injury free. He's like a new recruit. Speaking of the recruits, I though Pickett although only a few touches looked like he could be something special. Backline still a worry for me & the disposal efficiency overall was average but some good signs & all in all finished off the game well. Go Dees
  10. Max sole captain for me...... Jetta & T Mac vice captains IMO Viney needs to focus on getting his body right & playing consistent footy without the burden of being skipper. Lever & May shouldn't even come into consideration (yet). Lever 19 games for MFC & May 8 games for MFC. Both reported to be on $800k per year & need to play more consistent footy.
  11. I'm with you dpositive......No plan B & really after Roos handed him a finals side, the pathway to the finals was just a formality. The true test of a good coach, IMO, is when the chips are down & he is up against it!! He didn't cope last year, on & off the field, so his reaction this season will be interesting & monitored closely. Good mix of players? Good selections? Good form? I question some of the mature recruits, however, time will tell...... Go Dees ?
  12. I'm glad no more Dees than Nev were included.....& really, no one apart from Max & Clarry would have even been considered. Keep them fit for round 1 I say......game v WCE will dictate our year.
  13. Lip service & much of the same stuff that clubs roll out this time of year. Cant say I was very excited but the proof's in the pudding I guess....Be regarded as a great doco if we make finals, however, not sure how it will be regarded if we finish bottom 4. Great for the gaining membership numbers & gave us a good look at Nate's house.....although I think he's sold it now ?
  14. Taking in consideration the success of 2018, I think it has to be 10 wins or finals for Goodwin to retain his job & for the club to show progression from last seasons debacle. anything less.....see ya Goody
  15. The AFL website has suggested that at our footy club, Steven May has a point to prove in 2020 which I'm sure most of us would agree......but I also believe he has some mates & I would hope that May, Lever, Hannan & Gus have some work to do. https://www.afl.com.au/news/367924/who-has-a-big-point-to-prove-in-2020- Thoughts.....
  16. Roos will be judged on his coaching successes rather than his TV conversations......If the networks want to pay him for his opinion, then good luck to him. Still remains as one of the most revered coaches of the modern era & his contribution to the MFC was significant.
  17. I wish Harley all the best but not sure the Dees are in the position to be taking risks. 2 games in 5 years....I agree with Mel Bourne.
  18. The context of my response was about the out of form & unfit players Goodwin played. It actually wouldn't have mattered who he replaced those players with........ Surely you would know who those players were......seriously?
  19. The coach to finally play fit & inform players...... The rest will take care of itself & finals a reality. Go Dees!!
  20. Both Northey & Daniher great coaches in their own right & put the MFC back on the map during their tenure at the club. Not sure how Goodwin is even talked about in the same breath as these greatly respected & proven coaches. Northey the pick for me purely & simply because of the pure excitement & public impact on a club that was starved of success for 23 years. Northey had 7 years & Daniher had 10 years. SG success as a coach will be measured after another 2 or 3 years I would have thought.
  21. 1988 87 & 88 was an exciting time for the club in its quest for a premiership post 64. amazing.
  22. KK for me......although he has played most of his footy at half back, he offers greater speed that Tomlinson. I think this will become more important for us this year especially considering how important the wingers have become with the new 666 ruling. Wing has become one of the hardest positions to play in recent times with the workload required & whilst Tomlinson has an engine, I'm not sure he has the speed to keep up with the likes of Gaff, Kelly, Scully, B Hill, L Hunter, T Phillips, Florent & McCluggage
  23. I feel that the true measurement & ability of a coach is not when he has a full talented list to choose from, but when his back is against the wall. I am guessing you would know as well as I do that a number of players, call them favorites, were gifted games when clearly those players were either injured, out of form & rushed back too quickly. I know of a couple of coaches that have struggled over the last couple of years with early injuries, form etc & have still managed to play finals. Clearly SG wasn't out of his depth in 2018, but lets face it, anyone with the calibre of player available that season would have done ok. This season will be the test of the man& I hope they flourish......Go dees.
