Who cares about the lacking fitness you allege . Perkins has always been that weight and played in a Crows premiership side. She was the biggest danger to our backs and ruck of all their players and contributed as always. That doesn't diminish the game. The AFLW practices diversity so how can they refuse Sarah to play. She was better than any of our forwards last night than Taylor/Pearce who are forming a threat to the opposition. Pity the other forwards can't join in the symmetry or kick straight.

Goals should be 7 not 2 !!!

Here here I was on the wing / half forward line in a Melb section on the public side of the ground and thought exactly the same from half time to Bonts goal. When you look at the game again our defenders saved the game by only allowing 2 goals in half a quarter of footy .Digs had attacked and then if by manic we clicked into gear with 2 goals to establish our claim on the Flag. It was never in doubt from 3/4 time on as we finished far too strong for the Doggies in one of greatest Finals wins ever. So well deserved by everyone in the Red and Blue team and supporters!

Lasting Memories of Laurie in the 1950/60 glory days as a tough very accomplished centreman. Great team man and thoughts with the Mithen family snd his close teammates of the same era. Wonderful he experienced our Glag last season.

The reason is that in the half hour after we won the GF in Perth Gary Pert immediately rang the AFL ( no sure who)and suggested the repeat game on the opening round and that's where the push came from. I am not saying that PJ wouldhave OR would not have done this but he is not as practical as Perty in these matters as I can recall. Perty has any minute commercial and/or money-making opportunity on short charge. I think PJ did an amazing job in his time and we should be forever thankful for his excellence and astuteness. But we are now in Pert's world and as a reason why he was selected as CEO he is bridging the gap with the Club now in its best position EVER to be able to grow into the best version of ourself. If that means 80,000 members that's it If it means the admon is finished by 2024 than ok and it if means we play Wed night then that's what big Clubs do. He no doubt is behind the Replacement game being the QB Pies blockbuster not just an ordinary Hawthorn or Carlton fixture which have been Ho hum in the last 3/4 years. We also hold a lot more bargaining power now I admit but Perty uses this extra muscle to our advantage and long May he continue to keep this attitude going now we are top on the ground let's maintain and improve off the ground also.

Thanks PF Another great report. Very detailed and so promising from all concerned. 1. Say Tmac and Mitch Brown ( why is he in rehab BTW?) were injured and Round 1 was this weekend who would you replace Tmac in the forward line with? Sam W OR JV Rooyen? 2. Does the same side (23) that won the FLAG get selected on their form and fitness up to now. OR is their a standout that could press for selection from our emergencies and up to say 33rd best players available? Thank you 58er

Edit so preciously!

Good old wooden spoons dear man we don't talk about them any more I trust. Only that beautiful huge silver and bronze Cup that I held a couple of months ago so previously in my hand. It was so good to see Maxy and Goody raise it at the GF for the whole world to see. Go Dees

Wed night Might be a real novelty for some BBP and may I say it Dees fans need to get used to Night Games ( and possibly blockbusters ) if we are to become a dynasty for the next 5/6 years. Pert and AFL conjured this up and probably under PJ this would not be happening but what better time than fresh off a flag to test the market? I like his positivity and we don't become the Club we can be if we don't embrace change or trial. The worry has been about our lack of Under say 30yo and junior supporters but there no doubt will be some new one's raring to go Wed night or not!! One other point our attendances on different nights at the Anzac Eve games since 2015 have not been below 56,000 and Covid and weather could have challenged quite a few last year on aSat night.
-
Yes MCW that's correct but you did not in your response to LITB challenge or reject his major point about this year being challenged if Covid has a substantial effect. You know the drill, silence is consent and although I meant this for LITB it still applies to your comments not disagreeing with his and my point about worrying about 2022 at this stage.

It's a once in a 3/4 generation game with the flag ceremony and 1vs2 plus the opening round. Anything less than 60,000 will be criticised. surely families are used to night events now after all these years. Many new members or fans would also not want to miss this occasion. Whatever the crowd I predict that Round3 vs Bombers Will get about 20,000 more.
-
What does "shocking" constitute as a bad time for a once in 57 years premiership flag unfurling game vs the No 2 ranked team after 2 years of Covid ravaged home games.?
-
I tend to agree that 70 plus is probably not reachable but if many if those fans who came to our Finals in 2018 attend then 70 is indeed possible. at most I reckon 15,000 Dogs fans will attend as they do Favour Marvel. On 1961 our biggest H and A crowd ever vs Dogs was 66,000 about a month before the Finals that year which about 6/7 weeks later saw us surprisingly eliminated in the Prelim by the same team. If Essendon win noth or even one game and we win both then 80,000 plus is possible on the Round 3 clash no doubt.
-
They may also be totally desperate to attend at the G to avoid some of the inane BT and James Brayshaw comments so fresh from their minds after 30/40 renditions of the Grand Final. Also the novelty of having not attended and witnessing the Mighty Dees as the Reigning Premiers and/or being 57 years since they have seen our flag raising ceremony again will lure them along. Most of the previous negativity in gaining admission and reasons for non attendance have been well in hand for 2 seasons and would not on this occasion be new for "rusted on " supporters or any Dees fan or tragic who is IMO able to get there for this special occasion. There are also more Reserved Seats holders do that many sections have sold out to balance or increase the ledger.

DD look at George's Posts with figures for the last 8/10 years under "Membership 2022". it's all there for you !!

While I think the Spanish take on our CP5 blitz in the 3rd quarter is exceptional has any one bothered to tell the Spanish that Trac is of Italian descent.!!! They perhaps may not be as enthusiastic especially after this and also that I drank Aperol Spritzes in the Barcelona heat rather than a Sangria perhaps!!! I have nevertheless more than made up for whatever drink including our Premiership Shiraz ( not too bad a drop) that I can get my hands on to continue celebrating our 57 year drought. Still have a couple of Victorian friends to fully cement our triumph in 2021 with a toast before 2022 commences. Cheers !!!🍾❤️💙🏆

How long ago has Clarry done this ? 2019? 2020? Clarry had grown out of it.

Looks like a Rock Paper Scissors gone wrong !!

The same for BBB as well Don't forget he was injured during 2020 and only played half a season during the middle stages. We even stopped him playing for about 6 weeks in the middle of last season to enhance his program and bring his fitness level up to scratch. Weid played while this went on and did not unfortunately perform up to the level to grab the forward post that BBB secured from about the Port match ( seven games ) and the rest is history. Any hip injury for Weid in 2021 that has been mentioned I don't think is correct at all and would sound more like 2020 if in fact it ever occurred. Now BBB is apparently training really well and reports on Weid are not as encouraging from Picket Fence. He has also singled out JVR for some highlights in his adaptation to his first AFL pre season. I hope like all Dees fans that Sam can make it BUT I fear if he isn't given an opportunity as a third ruck/ forward OR at CHB he will not make it as a KP forward.

You fail to acknowledge the While you have provided a long list of half glass empty and worst case scenarios to try and justify your expectations ( based on 2021 mainly) you fail to acknowledge the vast improvement in all areas of the Club since 2017. Simply the Club was in developmental stage as well as the players still evolving and the recruiting putting the finishing touches like Kossie Dogga Riv and Lingers and Tommo and May in 2019 plus Sparrow and Jordan in 2018 draft along with Lever that season. Then in 2020 we drafted Bowey and secured BBB. Also your correct as all Demons fans acknowledge that Chocco and Ooze were pivotal in our success with Goody and the other Coaches and FD and JT and his team. My point us that not all your excuses/ reasons are justified in expectations as the 2017-21 years showed. This year was by wins and performances either the best year ever for the Club or at least the equal of say 1956 or any of the other Glory Days wins. we were not ready in 2017 or 2018 mentally or physically and 2019 yes happened but the reasons are well known not great but it was what it was. 2020 we actually won 6 out of 9 with the Cairns disasters the bugbear and costing us a Finals berth. (We did beat GWS in Round 16 as I was at that game ). Simon like all Coaches has evolved and as Clarkson Hardwick Beveridge Thompson and Buckley have shown it's hard to win flags snd after 4/5 years most are at their peak. You can lie awake each night at these years as missed opportunities and yes I was disappointed pointed as I have a glass half full approach but I can say if you can see my posts from early 2021 I deducted that we would improve dramatically and get top4 if we had an injury free run. About 6/8 reasons including recruiting, maturing ( Trac Clarry Spargs TMac etc) new coaching plus a modified game plan and some good defensive signs in 2020 all looked promising for us. Now we have the opportunity to go back to back for the first time in 62 years and there is no real reason why we won't give this opportunity a real red hot shake!!

FGS why worry now about the legitimacy potential for this years flag ? 1. We haven't won it yet? 2. If we do it's confirming our greatness. 3. Please don't give it as a reason if we don't win it . It's not negotiable after last season when we took all in our stride. 4. So far we are on track in pre season and many things are outside our control. 5. I bet the players are not sitting around discussing any disadvantages of 2022 preventing us winning back to back. 6. Really supporters that do have got their MFCSS back big time already!! 7. we are and last season played any where any time and any way!!! And we won by so far no one could query the season or legitimacy of our Flag. 8. Let's repeat in 2022 more of the same !!

Part 5: Dees top 100 of the past 50 years – (the top 20)
58er replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
Probably because if the synergy of the Gawn Oliver and Petracca with Jack that we are now lucky to see. For eg if Stynesy was first ruck Todd would have been a better option. In today's footy being an interchange is not an indication of lesser ability necessarily. The medical sub maybe. ! -
Wrong see my earlier posts. If you consider 9 th in 2017 (12-10 ) and 2020 (9-8) bad years then you are being too nit picking. It's well established 2019 reasons for the 5-17 result and If Simon gets us 2 out of 3 flags by 2024 then 3 flags in 4 years is not the sort of result you part ways. By all means give Simon the 3 years extension but to say that's all now if he succeeds and you reflecting in your opinion about 2017 and 2020 to penalise him then is ridiculous.

Well Binman how do you explain the three quarter time score of 2pts.? Adelaide pressure which caused us to fumble not stick to our game plan and to not provide a physical contest in the clinches and around the ground. We were completely rattled from the first bounce and had no composure plus and little strength in ball contests it was an easy out for the Crows snd only the inaccuracy ( and our different game plan) saved us from a mauling. Also our leaders had a bad day and couldn't really impact the game until after 3/4 time. From my TV it was just as much decided by our timid ness and Crows sustained pressure. We did not compete on the same level and looked like a bottom four team. I am happy for you to offer your experience and summary but I MO it is no good glossing over the truth at this stage of the season.
