Also I will they are as important and special as the players and coaches. We aren't there yet so let's not get complacent but there is a very determined atmosphere and resolve to continue the pursuit of excellence and the highest of standards and results. Go Dees and thanks to everyone.

Which the grand final? I was there and truly I don't think it was crucial n their comeback or third quarter 15 min dominance.BUT the MIT h Hannam free kick live and on replay 30 plus times is very soft. Unfortunately the umps this year especially are paying soft free kicks by the bus load You hardly touch your opponent on the back or near the neck and especially in blink e and throw in plus contested ball they make a stupid preliminary soft call and 2 mins later Kossies head is pulled off and no whistle. BUt I was not upset overall at the green/ yellow brigade. What I neglected ( very embarrassingly ) as I wound up my post in a hurry to get out was not recognise the VERY LARGE contribution made by our Coach Simon Goodwin who held it all together brilliantly and deserves huge credit and a very large place in the Histoty of breaking our extended drought/curse. Hw will either be our judged our 2nd b est Coach by a distance or third narrowly in the years to come !

He is not technically a KP forward but a floating half forward and pocket as well. Really he is the best forward in a traditional sense as he has all the skills also. Long May he play on our forward line!!

Agree Wiz I was alive and barracked for the Dees in 1958,59 60 and 64 but as a 10 year old to 16 we went as a family to most games at the G starting in 1959. Our first memberships were in 1965 and by far the most emotional and consequential event in the 63 years was that afternoon at the Western Oval when we made the Finals in 1987 and those matches like in 2018 were amazing for their red and blue support and atmosphere snd us winning the 2 Finals games. I moved to Brisbane in 1993 and still purchase an Adult Membership and have for 56 consecutive years. I and fellow supporters in their 60's and 70's agreed that our time was running out in our lifetime even though in retrospect 2018 now was not a glitch but a promise of the prospect that we could in the next few years maybe break our curse or drought. 2019 was very disappointing and the injury toll and lack of a solid pre season of about half the list was crucial. 2020 in my opinion was not a wasted year as our defence was starting to emerge as a tight unit and May snd Lever showed glimpses of their class and why we used those draft picks. The biggest improvement was in 2020 that Christian Petracca went from a good B grader to a class A + grader on his best days. Along with him was Gawny Clarry Langers and on occasions Viney and Salem (near the end of the season) were all impacting our form and results but for our largely dysfunctional forward line. Cairns also showed our weaknesses mentally and in difficult conditions but a platform on our fitness by Burgo had been started and our % was over 100% (107% in fact up from 78% in 2019. The JT and his team plus the FDepts recent years of drafting and recruiting were starting to bear fruit. I contributed at least a dozen posts indicating my optimism about our list and its potential to take a step or two to the Final 8 or even Top 4 if we succeeded in a number of facets of the game in 2021. Paramount to this was the following : 1. Positive run with injuries to key players and low overall total numbers as well. 2. Potential immediate improvement in 2019 draftees Jackson Kossie and Rivers. 3. Players like Fritsch Spargo Brayshaw ANB Harmes show regular and consistent improvement in their individual and team contributions to kick more goals raise their tacking level and develop a hard edge approach. 4. All our A or potential A graders emerge and lead the way on and off the field. Gawn Trac Clarry Vines Langers Maysie Jake L and Salem were a very good start in this group. 5. Tommy Mac rediscover his 2018 form or kick say 30-50 goals this season. 6. BBB our new recruit and/or Sam Weid become forwards that took the oppositions best defenders and still beat them enough times to impact and connect our attack to a new level. 7. That our 2/3 year recruits Sparrow Chandler and Jordon plus others fulfil much of their potential in breakout years to back up our mids in depth. 8. Very Importantly a stronger game plan be introduced and the Club learn from the Tigers Hawks and Cats that team footy is the secret to sustained form and importance to a successful season no matter what ability you possess on your list. 9. I was extremely bullish about our new coaching panel giving us an edge in our midfield and running patterns and improving the game plan overall. 10 From that first JTL win over the Tigers I reckoned that form was true and achievable and our team was gelling together in a positive snd measured manner. Solid team orientated and honest players seemed to know more about their role in the team and the team looked as though they enjoyed each other's company and on field success. Our disastrous under strength JLT performance to lose vs the Doggies at Marvel was a complete glitch and did not seem to harm us mentally in hindsight. From Round 1 we were a bit scratchy but still strong and solid with some real individual brilliance emerging in the team as the season progressed. Anzac Eve was a great lesson in our growth only we recognised as the footy world had to eventually. By Finals time we had laid the base and in the last minutes st the Cattery tied up the Minor Premiership to give real belief that we would be up for the Finsks Challenges. To say it was a juggernaut from then on is not overstating our excellence snd performance yo gain our 13 Th and best modern flag this century.

Another poster said we were on the lucky side to win!!! Another 3rd quarter goal and we would have been in trouble!! I felt that we were about a 6/8 goal better side than the Lions but didn't convert quite as well as in the PF and GF. The "Charlie " factor was large and Hibbo May well have been a better choice than Joel Smith to mind him. But pleasing for Joel he has improved IMO and should get more games next season in a 8/10 man defensive unit UNLESS he gets injured again

Was disappointed Jay did not get a real go last year and was up against it when Nev was picked from Round 1. Some days reckon we missed that smaller defender but as we kept winning Jay could not force his way in. Still think he had the ability but when "Bowser" was selected it was all over for Jay. Jake is a great player in the making no doubt and love his footy to bits. I hope Jay can find a VFL side at least as he has the skill and date to make it. All the best Jay.

Sue what we did is have a poor or bad quarter ( third) with no goals kicked vs the Lions but In saying that we conceded only 2 goals!! If we had conceded 4/5 goals then the pressure would have been far greater as the scores obviously would have been very close, in fact about level. How were you in the third quarter in the Granny when in 10 minutes actual play we had scored only a point had slipped to 19 points behind and IMO needed a real spark from one of our stars to get us going again. Again in that 10 mins we conceded ONLY 2 GOALS and in many ways SAVED the game. Nevertheless in It I was worried ( watching live in the stand at Optus) in that period of play as our dare and flair had disappeared and the next score appeared a difficult effort and not knowing where it was coming from. BUT as a champion team does we found away, you could almost say 16 different ways to score go the rest of the game!! Naturally our centre clearance break aways were pivotal for quick scoring opportunities as the Dogs lost their structure in the centre square and all our champions and role players contributed in the best 25 mins of Melb footy I have ever witnessed. I don't think of the tight times we were in Sue during the last 4 games in 2021 now but that we learnt to regain control ( Simon always refers it to getting back to our footy and controlling the game ). Our Team GREW so much in those last 7 games but ESPECIALLY in Round 23 and the Finals it is unrecognisable from the mid winter 7,8 and 9 goal struggle to overcome mediocre opposition and win games through sheer defence. We are a formidable opposition for any opponent and our age demographic snd MCG desire to double up will keep our players hungry and motivated. Plus our ability with our youth will keep us evolving on the journey yo returning at long last as one of the major Clubs in the AFL. -

Learnings Great sides ( which we were this year ) can manage 44 and 19 (93) turnarounds. In addition in the North and Lions games we also managed at least 40/50 turnarounds being about 24 pts down in both. This team because of its "go to another level" factor is never beaten as it also plays " within the minute" and can mentally handle different situations within games. Yes we will not every time guarantee to turn around ALL situations but we know that the capability is there and never out of the question. That is the learnings I take out of our 4 best Demon games in a row in more than HALF ACENTURY. -
We name 7 defenders normally but not 4 KP types inc Lever. We have Turner also who May improve. Hibbo can play either small or medium or sort of tall say Rohan or Briochek perhaps snd say Martin and Cameron. Lever proved vs Geelong in Prelim if he plays well and keeps the troops accountable we can play with Petty taking over Mays role. But in 2022 we will have Tommo available also most of the year. Don't think we need worry about Gus he covers ground very well snd stays on his wing like Langers to help out defence and forwards. We will still be very strong for 4/5 years in the backline I believe. L

And how many quarters do you think it would have taken the Lions to overcome us? What happened if we kicked straighter or Charlie Cameron suffered an injury? The general result of that game by neutral opinion was we beat them by a far larger margin than the final result indicated. Yes we had a bit of luck with McStsy being injured but that is footy!! -
Since when has he starred for us? Prob best game when we beat GCoast by a pt. And Marty kicked the last goal to tie the scores. But he didn't have a regular spot and Daniel Turner at 19 and taller and a key position prospect has virtually taken Marty's spot on the list, Thst is a sensible decision as Marty was an interceptor only IMO and really couldn't handle key position players for size and was not nimble enough for the clever smalls. Good luck to him reckon he will end up on a VFL list in 2022.

Our 4 AA from our defensive list BTW!!!
-
Liked his highlight reel from Day1 and nothing that he has achieved so far is less than that evidence. Many good games ahead for the No 35 and he could easily join our 4 AA s on our list!! We are just wild about Harry!!!

Well Praha you are a very slow worker. Stop over thinking and look at the results and give credit where credit is due. Basically Goody oversaw ALL that happened in 2021 All the coaches and players 24/7 and a hundred and one other issues throughout the season. Evety time we were 3 goals down in a big game we responded and rarely failed. Pies and Giants and Dogs we came up short in the middle of the season but that all helped us learn about ourselves. We grew and exploded on the big stage and ended up with our biggest and one of the best GF wins to claim our 13th flag. In Goodys hands are our 14, 15 and 16 th flags potentially. Lets give him our unwavering faith and support to achieve that and lay a stronger base than ever before for our future and growth in this all conquering AFL competition.

Very Sad Col another of our family to pass too young 3 years ago but Hope He enjoyed our 13 th premiership which has majorly lifted all our families spirits by the level of excellence 2021 maintained from Day 1. At This stage it's unknown what effect this Premiership will have on our future but the signs are positive for a great period of stabilisation success and growth if all is handled correctly. Our families were very much thought of as we triumphed last month and are Never forgotten.

Yes the Brayshaws May even produce another member of the Wingers Club for Angus and Lingers to train beside! -
Yes one Clubs poison can be another Clubs treasure. And the last poison turned out to be a real treasure on GF day and previously where he majorly helped right our forward line connectivity and balance which propelled our attack to un heard of versatility and ability. When in doubt kick the ball high to Benny was used at least a half a dozen times especially in the Granny with great effect. Bens long straight arms were never quelled on the bug GF stage and gave out attack a sense of surety not seen before. This on half a season also!! Of course Polec is a different cat but he is a ferocious finisher with the ball and has genuine pace to burn. Any position on HB wing or HF he would need minding and be a real menace albeit depth fir our 2022 campaign. Rosman and Baker would be challenged as well as our culture but I think we are big boys now and can handle with our coaches precocious talent for the team mantra thing Jared has never quite bought into yet on his AFL journey. Martin Pike says hi from the Brisbane Lions !!!
-
Agree LFS I say CHBack I would have had him in instead of Gary Hardeman but Neiter did finish his career in the 2000,s the naughties!!!

Nothing to do with the Club what you ARE REPORTING please get facts straight before you blaspheme the Club Thru are entirely privately organised public functions with NOTHING to do with the Club.

Agree with you CrankFranky a defender on big players is Adams forte. Hasnt got the skills to go with smaller forwards like Hibbo has or Hunty, so don't agree with Dee-licious that all those are fighting for the small minding defenders position. That is Bowey or Salem's job or sometimes Hibbo or Hunt. Petty and Tommo are like for like IMO. Smithy is also a bigger player defender type if his minding of Charlie Cameron in the QUAL. Is any guide. Tommo last year did not relish the wing but maybe he can be switched there during a game perhaps on occasions. Lets keep Lingers and Gus if it ain't broke don't fix it. Having posted earlier that I would be ok with Polec as depth I believe he could be ok on the wing also HFF and HBF as a dashing player in the Hunt mould.

Dorks in 2013 are not the example of this They were runners up in 2012 beaten by less than 2 goals in arguably an upset. Also lost narrowly less than a goal in 2011 to Pies in Prelim. Not much middle order about this but your point is very valid. Port Will win soon and Bombers are future potential flag winners and if Lions can stiffen up their defence and on ballers plus have all forwards free from injury they can also kick enough goals against all but us to be in the frame I reckon. -
Well worth look at as he would have 3/4 seasons perhaps but could be given 1 year with option of another or only the one first up. Clearly our defensive mantra is at stake so he maybe a half forward/ wing/ half back attacking weapon of depth and form and upon injury. Would put pressure on Baker and Rosman snd all players again to keep honest with form and contribution.Additionally Polec could not let his ego wander among our culture which will sort him out in the first sessions of pre season I would think if necessary. Interesting but worthwhile move that is smart money wise and depth also.

Petty and Tmac could easily Change between CHF and FF and CHB or FB during a game or season, Daniel Turner may be a good backup in defence with some Casey games experience behind him and Majak and Mitch Brown also offer plenty of versatility. Also Bowey and Sal em could play wing or HFF and I hope Laurie and Rosman get a good go at a number of games to build form and confidence. Nothing ever stays the same that's why we need continue the progress and produce new stars and keep pressure on the premiership heroes! Luke Dunstan and JJ say hi to the midfield Club !! Gus is still rapped about the Wingers Club and is looking for some new recruits to add to their mix. Plenty of good stories to come in 2022 and beyond if we keep putting the same effort in.
