  1. Not the only metric, but how many goals for JVR for Demonland pundits to head on down to East Melbourne and march in on the selection committee demanding JVR's inclusion this week? 3 goals?🤷‍♀️
  2. That's a weird statement Lucy, I think you're aware that no one who advocates for loading as being the main contributing factor, considers it to be the sole factor. That's been cleared up time and time again.
  3. Morning... my fragile ego just wanted to repost this...
  4. ...like clockwork, or if you will, the precisely engineered Swiss time piece that it is.
  5. Sincere apologies if that came across as condescending. On reflection/re-reading, I can see that it could come across that way. I don't see you as as anti-loading - yet there seems to be an ongoing theme that people are positioning those that advocate for loading as a sense making tool - that they think it's the ONLY factor...
  6. I chose not to go for an 9km run this morning, thus I deloaded my body. I'll go for a 9km run tomorrow and that's a 50% increase on what I did 3 days ago after a 2 week illness. I'm loading up so I can consume some beers whilst watching the game tomorrow... Anyway... any variation in training is either loading up or deloading. It goes by a range of names such as "heavier training block". Each week during a season the volume and intensity adjusts. So inherent in that is the notion that, each week is that there is an alteration in 'load'. Again, if you're doing an intense training session, the volume will be shorter... that's a version of loading and/or deloading. Two processes are going on there. Firstly from a physiological perspective the body is developing tolerance to fatigue, and also at a cellular/tissue level, so the body's window of tolerance is extended, less likelihood of soft tissue injuries. Further, psychologically the athlete is also developing tolerance/competence, so that when the context of stress comes (that's all about meaning, which I'll happily explain more about at some stage) - be it in a 'final' be it when 'fatigued' - skill execution at a proficient level can still occur. You've seen the graphs, we've been loading all year so to speak Lucy - it's a full year program... aimed to be at our peak from a capacity to execute task on the field under high stress situations, both physiologically and psychologically. When's the most stressful time of the year? (each week for Demonlanders)... It's not Rounds 1-20 that's for sure. Training Standards... ooof.... what does that even mean? Execution of behaviours irrespective of how you feel? Holding each other accountable? The evidence is training loads influences behavioral output be it in training or on game day. Perhaps I should also start a thread for the anti loading propaganda merchants 😇 - "In Season - It's an attitude problem, training standards need to lift - put your conjecture here".... **actually I'm going to continue my little spiel... Footballers aren't scientists. And what I mean by that is if a media commentator asks a question - a footballer gives it, the assumption is made that the footballer knows what he or she is talking about. They can give their perspective on something, it doesn't mean they understand objectively the drivers. The reality is though - and let me use an example in my own work - if a client comes in to see me about anxiety for example, they can give me their thoughts (literally the thoughts the notice and what they feel) - but they don't have the insight at a scientific level to understand the process that creates and maintains the anxiety...which then influences behaviour under stress and pressure... you'd never speak about your daily behaviours at homer or at work needing to lift... The best people to ask questions about training would be the Performance Managers... of course they'll never share. But I guarantee you this... they wouldn't be talking about 'training standards' as been the problem.
  7. All good, I didn’t think you were fuelling the anti-loading propaganda machine 👌😎- if others haven’t added to it by tomorrow - I’ll add a bit more after a morning coffee. my musings re: what was assumed to be witnessed at training, is that it all bodes very well and fits in neatly with any elite performance program (that I have been exposed to). #notthatitguarenteesoutcomes 👍
  8. @DemonWA I appreciate the confusion. There are two factors to consider. Intensity and volume. - actually 3 - frequency, intensity and duration/volume Eg: lower intensity vs high volume - high intensity vs lower volume. Volume is now sorted. *apologies, done with words today, others can elaborate.
  9. *sigh*, it's like putting on a comfy pair of tracksuits and moccasins innit?
  10. Maybe it's the SB shaped void instead? 🤷‍♀️
  11. I was thinking about the difficulties of winning the premiership and then backing up the following year, over lunch when eating my home made ramen and staring off into the middle distance, trying to avoid the eyes of my wife who is working from home, after a heated discussion this morning about some topic of no real relevance to here* - but enough to illustrate the point, that at times, in a relationship, one of us feels as though no matter what we do, we can't quite get it right all the time for that person... and then THAT led me to thinking about the relationship between a coach (Goodwin) and the supporters of said team. Goodwin, who has given us the ultimate joy less than a year ago, is on a hiding to nothing in this relationship from some sectors. Prior to winning the grand-final, he was derided for a whole host of reasons, too rigid in system, a poor game day coach, played favourites, couldn't win against poorer teams, fitness isn't up to it, they're not hungry enough, he doesnt motivate enough, game plan has been found out etc etc. Subsequent to the evidence that he (the club, the players) are good enough, he now needs to meet the previous year standards at an emotional level for the supporter. Not an intellectual one - we all 'get' its hard to go back to back for a whole range of reasons, but then some sections of the supporter base, fall back into deriding him, the players for - too rigid in system, a poor game day coach, played favorites, couldn't win against poorer teams, fitness isn't up to it, they're not hungry enough, he doesn't motivate enough, game plan has been found out etc etc. So I was pondering what's worse emotionally? The disappointment that your team is never good enough? (pre 2021) or Knowing your team is and was good enough, and there is now a violation of expectations (a dynasty??), as things aren't tracking as you would expect. (post 2022). It's a pretty [censored] short honeymoon period eh...but we're not here to [censored] spiders. *you'd probably never guess that I like to talk and talk...but all is repaired with my dearest after a bit of listening...
  12. Oh! @layzie, it's not meaningful in itself, as far as I can see, I was just curious.
  13. Engorged Onion is totally down for third person referencing. Love a bit of self love @Redleg😇
  14. G'day @WheeloRatings, do you have any stats on which team is the most accurate to score against? As in, largest difference between Goals and Points scored. I have a vibe it could be us... but also wanted to see how it compared to other teams, and then whether it is actually meaningful.
  15. Enjoying your considered contributions...welcome aboard.
  16. It's not a [censored] theory. Just like Evolution is no longer a "Theory of Evolution".
  17. Just so I am clear, a premiership contender - has kicked 2 goals 4 in 2 and a half quarters of football? Why has this come to pass. I presume it's their forward structure?
  18. @DemonWA How does that logic marry up with them beating us second time round last year (corresponding fixture) and then their performance in their GF loss? Similarly, how does the Dogs winning last night marry up to their scars of the GF and Round 1 loss this year? Or the time we lost, what was it 17 in a row against North... and then won one? Performance is about execution of task, time and time again, not about getting caught up in the past or the future. I'd hope they've got psychologists to help re-enforce that. Very excited about the next month of football and the emotional rollercoaster that it is. I said at the beginning of the year that I didn't care if we didn't make the GF this year... who am I kidding? I care pretty bloody deeply. 😇 Just on that... I read a quote from the Crystal Palace CE - something akin to "A football club is typically someones first love, it's before their first boyfriend or girlfriend, therefore it's embedded more deeply in that persons psyche" No wonder some of these topics are so divisive.

Only Geelong and Collingwood now right? Right?
  20. Mate, Essendon won last week, they're in red hot form... that's the reason!
  21. But then folks would see Jackson playing and bemoan the fact we didn't take him... it's like clockwork.
  22. Loading doesn't mean you automatically lose, nor does not loading mean you automatically win. Nor has anyone who has discussed we do load, detailed that it is the ONLY contributing factor to a loss... NOR to a win. Anyway, we lost against the Bulldogs last year in the same round... (yes, yes, it's a different year). I'd say we will cover the ground a bit better as of next week... around 2 months out...How would you explain what happened from Round 11 last year to the GF - and the variable form line? It wasn't due to the below.... Was it due to hunger? We' d being found out (until we hadn't been) We didn't have the personnel? Forward lines not functioning ? etc etc etc
  23. Have some form, but not too much form? I feel like the average punters version is this. How to quantify whether your team has the precise amount of form. 1)Don't lose. 2) Don't win by under 3 goals, as that represents you're team isn't quite good enough 3) Don't win by over 8 goals, otherwise it's just a glorified training match, and you haven't had enough of a hit out. 4) If you do win between 5 and 8 goals, don't do that too many times consecutively, otherwise it will represent that you don't have form because you don't have the 'foot on the throat'. 5) Don't win too many in a row (above 5) as that means you're getting closer to a loss. Have I hit on all the myths?
