Has anyone seen the video of the boys singing?
titan_uranus replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Me too. Been there from the start. The recent Desmond episode, as well as the Richard one, were epic. -
The international students will have helped. But 36,000+ is a fantastic result. Not many other clubs could pull that much vs Brisbane on a coldish, wettish Saturday night. And it's been said, but I'll say it again. 30,000 Melbourne supporters sound like 60,000 supporters from any other club.

Bate was fantastic last night. Anyone who disagrees is wrong. Sorry. He ran hard for four full quarters, presented at numerous contests, took strong marks, and even once took it upon himself to kick a goal from 50. Bruce, however, was not dissimilar to last week, or any other week. He makes too many mistakes by hand. Sells people down the river, or misses targets altogether. Yes he runs hard, yes he makes contests, but he still can't dispose of the ball with any sort of consistency.

He did come back on after the incident. If he's injured, I'd bring Bail back. I don't know why Bail was out in the first place (i.e. was he injured or did someone have to make way for Martin?), but I like the boy and I want him back in the team. Otherwise I'd try going unchanged again. Even though I want to say Bail for Dunn.

6 - Moloney 5 - Bate 4 - Trengove 3 - Jamar 2 - Warnock 1 - Scully But it's really too hard to list only 6.

Surely last week he was the mystery defender with the virus. Otherwise how the heck does he go from monstering Burton, to getting pansted by Riewoldt (Jack, that is), to monstering Brown? It had to be a virus. He's too good.

Umpire Jennings. I'd never heard of him until last night. Must be a rookie/new umpire or something. He was responsible for the Grimes HTB, possibly the worst HTB decision I've seen in a long time. Absolutely terrible decision. He was also responsible for the Bennell in the back, which was again an awful decision. That 'bump', if there was enough contact for it to be considered a bump, was to the side of the player. Nothing illegal about it. I believe he may have also been responsible for the decision to pay in the back against McDonald, which was clearly not in the back, but rather it was holding the ball (that might have been another umpire, don't know). Just terrible stuff. Really, all 3 of them were off their game last night. Hopefully as we improve we'll begin to get the better umpires instead of (possibly) rookies. Edit: And the Martin OOF: horrible. Surely in moments of doubt they should just throw it in?

It's nice. Lyon's a bit like that at times too. Most commentators can't help themselves at some point. Quarters with Hawthorn, Huddo with Geelong (and they didn't even play), Walls with Carlton, Richo with Richmond, the list goes on.
-
Have to admit, I was. They'd kicked the last two of the third, could have been the last three if Brown hadn't missed, so I was just nervous that if they got the first that players like Black, Drummond, Brennan would lift them even more.
-
Agree. A lot.

McGrath's a scrag. I wish someone had given it to him when he screwed up in the goalsquare in the fourth quarter which led to Davey's goal. As for Bennell, I was really impressed with him yesterday, as I have been ever since he moved forward. He's doing a good job.

NOW Trengove will get a Rising Star nomination
titan_uranus replied to Eth's topic in Melbourne Demons
Loved Trengove's work last night. Showed real class. Scully was good too I thought. Both have settled in nicely. That's mainly because Black played ridiculously well (especially considering his less-than-optimal fitness). -
Yes it would. We were, however, talking about players who played in a GF, not won one. We have Green, they have Johnstone and Staker (assuming Brown and Black don't play). Means close to nothing. Actually, means nothing.
-
Is there a wind? 1 goal, then 4, then 1. Hopefully we get a big last quarter.
-
Bit hard for Watts to perform when he's not playing. But yes, you're right. Naitanui's playing well (not spectacularly and game-changingly, as everyone seems to think), and Watts did close to nothing in his 3 games.
-
They also have TJ, who played in 2000. So that's 2 to our 1.
-
Naitanui is totally over-rated. He's played 2 decent games, one of which was a NAB Cup game. Both were against Essendon. Some players just perform better against other teams or opponents. The hype is ridiculous.
-
Oops, well the point is still valid, it's been a while since they've fielded a team without a premiership player. That would help more than Black being out IMO. Black's not been in the greatest of form this year, and he'd be somewhat underdone if he did play. Sherman's been good for them this year. I'll still take the win thankyou very much. We're not a finals team. Every win's a good win. Even if Black, Brown and Sherman are all out, who cares? They're still an undefeated team with players like Fevola, Brennan, Drummond, McGrath, Rich, Leuenberger, Johnstone. There's plenty of talent outside of their injured players, and they're a finals, and premiership contender, which we aren't. Ergo, beating them, despite their injuries, will be a good win for the club.
-
Yeah, if Brown and Black are both withdrawals, then Brisbane won't have any premiership players in its team tonight. And someone told me that this would be the first time that his has happened since they won their most recent flag (i.e. every match Brisbane's played since that Grand Final, they've had at least 1 premiership player in their team).
-
Can't agree with that. Bruce's kicking is as far removed from 'excellent' as I can think of. It's highly erratic and doesn't cover a lot of distance. Can't see how any of that leads to it being 'excellent'.
-
Well if neither play Brisbane will have 0 Premiership players in their team. First time since 2003 someone told me.
-
Probably no one at the moment. Which only futher validates Nasher's point. If Martin's the best option for that spot, why isn't he in the team already? Wow you're thick. Nasher said that the Lions can see the emergency list, so if we do make this change it's not going to be anything of a surprise. Which is what you intimated earlier. Nasher 2. You 0. I would argue you have been doing this exact thing.

If you're suggesting that Bate's goals are worth less than whatever Dunn's been providing then I have to disagree. I've seen more from Bate, especially last week, than I have from Dunn. Bate makes as many contests as Dunn, runs harder, and is much more reliable from a set shot than Dunn is. Dunn's skills don't really allow us to class him as a lot better than Martin.

30,030. Seems to have really jumped over the last week or two.
