The one positive in looking at trading Tom is that he has the capacity to play at both ends of the ground, so I can see why both GWS and the Swans would be interested. And as you say, flipping him for a nothing pick suits me just fine, esoe ially if adding Brown is the outcome. It's a big win for us if that occurs.

You get the feeling that they might be happy to move Treloar on IF the right deal presented itself. Sounds like they are pretty close to re-signing De Goey as well, so the Beams pay out might be helpful in that regard.
-
I can accept the second part. If we balls it up next year then you could hardly blame him. However, I sit firmly in the camp that he hasn't even gotten that far down the road. As I've said, I can accept the frustration he is feeling. I don't blame him one bit. As for the journos, it was a couple who claimed they heard 'whispers'. The others spoke to Oliver and the club directly. I'll take that more seriously than the other ones based on that.
-
Do you lay awake at night thinking about it?
-
I won't stop saying it. It's rubbish. It is based on nothing. Yes, I can understand his frustration, which is only natural. But that would be common amongst many players at any given time. But wanting out? Nah. I'm going by some journos who said they got in contact with the club and with Oliver and his manager, and both were emphatic in saying that it was rubbish and absolutely wouldn't be happening.
-
He shouldn't have to considering this entire rumour is based on nothing. His manager, and the club, have rubbished it and rightly so. That's all that needs to be said.

Totally agree Steve - I was more taking the pizz with that post as Brown will be on decent coin and we know Polec is on a large contract.

We'll be spending 125% of the cap if we try and pull that one off.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

Maybe, but as titan mentions above, he was probably justified in his thinking. He's kicked almost 200 goals across three seasons at an average club, so I think asking for what he did wasn't unrealistic. But not taking the offer ended up being a poor decision for him, and you wonder now if he wishes that he just took the three year deal in the first place. -
SEN reported that he will be on around $550k a season for 5 years. This for a bloke who has played 11 games and hasn't won more than 16 possies in any of them. Just goes to show what you have to pay to get players to your club when you aren't much chop. Happy for him to go the Bombers as well considering the last place I think they need to add players is in their midfield right now.
-
We don't know how their contracts are structured either. Does Cameron come in a heavily back ended contract where the good money kicks in when a few others have retired, or gotten to the end of a heavily fronted contract? I just hate the fact that this will keep Geelong in the top four again next year. Sick of it.
-
Many of the players they get in are local boys, so you would imagine they would be more willing to play on reasonable wages with the lure of home being the deciding factor. Add in the pending retirements of GAJ, who would still be on decent money, and Harry Taylor, and they have opened up some room right there. To go with the thread, good to hear Nev will be staying, if anything for his leadership and positive presence in the locker room.

In that case, welcome back Brad Green!

There is nothing new in there - just talks about the fact that the Dogs offered three years to our two years for Hannan, and that we are right in the hunt for Brown unless he wants a larger contract money wise as we can't offer that right now. Says that by moving on someone like Tom McDonald it might allow us to offer more if another club trumped us in the $$$ department. -
In that article it says we offered a two year deal but the Dogs trumped us with a three year deal. Feels like the Dean Kent trade from a few years ago. I'm happy that we didn't offer three years as I don't believe his last few seasons warranted such an offer.
-
Clearly this is your first trade period on Demonland. If a player even looks in our direction he gets a thread.
-
I've had a soft spot for Hannan. Thought he was destined to be a regular in our 22 for years to come, but poor form and injury haven't helped. I also think the club was beginning to realise that they couldn't have Fritsch, Melksham and Hannan in the same forward line with Weideman and Jackson (and now potentially Brown), so perhaps he saw the writing on the wall. As others have said, that goal in the final against Geelong is one I'll always come back to when the chips are down. One of the best highlights of the decade for us.
-
GWS makes some sense, in that they will have the room to take him on and a spot in their side with both Cameron and Corr moving on. No idea what the club wants in return, but I'm sure we can package McDonald and Preuss together and get something we could on trade to North for Brown in return.

If the medical comes up fine, then the injuries don't worry me too much. He's been pretty much injury free prior to this year. The second round pick does feel like slight overs to me considering that they don't want him. -

3 at the very least you would think, considering he was holding out for 4 with North. As LH mentions above, the wheels are certainly in motion from our end in terms of getting him across to the club, but I'd say the length of the contract and how much money is involved might be the deciding factor for Brown, especially if a few clubs are interested. -
That's all you need to know.

To give some context to this, Hawkins stepped into a Geelong side on the cusp of greatness. He was a much bigger body than Weed, which allowed him to offer more influence as that power forward, but also had one of the best midfields of the modern era delivering him the ball. And still it took him time to develop consistency and make good on his promise. I think Weed still deserves time, but further support, whether that be in the form of Ben Brown, is necessary. -

Which, when you consider that we have been linked to him for weeks, isn't all that surprising. The club will do it's due diligence re: his medicals, what North want via trade and the type of contract he wants, and hopefully all three fit in to place so he is worth pursuing. -
With the Crouch seemingly headed for St. Kilda, the Saints have said that they are willing to trade Jimmy Webster to make room for him. Anyone think he would be worth a look? I have no idea if the club has any interest at all, but he is a good user of the footy, quick and was an important player for the Saints before injuries ruined the last couple of years for him. Keen to hear how other posters rate him and if he is someone we should be interested in.

Wouldn't go that far, but at the same time, they are apparently still in the race for Caldwell, so getting Crouch on big coin doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
