Is his name actually Samuel? Or is it just Sam? I think that's the more important issue here.
-
Tom McDonald is, reportedly, on roughly 700k a year. Treloar is on 900k. If they pay 200k of his salary and take back Tom McDonald then they don't really make any extra space in their cap for at least the next two years. Not sure how the Pies are going to work it with their salary cap so tight already.
-
If he came as a legit salary dump - and they paid some of the wages - then I'd look at it. You would be silly not to. That doesn't mean we get him, but you would have to seriously consider adding him to our midfield. I'd say we would absolutely need to move Tom Mac on at the very least to get it done, but I think that would be a workable outcome for the club. I still don't really think we're in the hunt for him but you never say never at this time of the year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

With all the other moves going on right now, I feel like this one will slip under the radar a little, but will make us a much better side in the process. I like that we went about this quietly and did our due diligence. As others have said, Brown is a proven goalkicker who will add a different element to our forward line. Weid can play tall and I'm excited at the prospect of Jackson floating across half forward. The big fella will almost be a roaming type player who can pluck marks, do some dirty work at ground level and give big Max a chop out in the ruck. If we get him over for this years second rounder then we've come out of this very, very well. -
I'm normally one to be pretty pumped when players re-sign... but I'm not sold on this one. I just don't see where he fits in our side. When he plays forward he hits the scoreboard every now and then, but doesn't get enough of it and doesn't put on nearly enough pressure for a bloke with his pace. He doesn't do much on a wing and there isn't space for him on half back. I'm hoping he proves me wrong over these next two years but I can't get excited about this one. Just don't rate him as a player. Edit - want to add that I mean the above respectfully. I don't want to be the type to be down on our players and such but this one just isn't doing it for me.
-
Not sure if GWS is the best place for him if rumours on their culture are to be believed, but I'm just happy to see him get another crack at it. We all know the large amount of talent that he has, and hopefully being out of WA and in a state that isn't 'AFL mad' will help him get back to his best.

Just to go with your previous posts, who else would you be looking at that's available and better than McKernan? Like others, I'm not exactly enamored with getting McKernan, but at this stage I don't think we can do any better.
-
No doubt about that, but interest in McKernan says that, potentially, we are far enough down the line with a club in offloading Tom for us to get in McKernan. I can't see the club getting him if we are worried that we can move him on.
-
If we're in for McKernan, which doesn't excite me at all, then it would seem to suggest that we have others in the pipeline to move on, such as Tom and Oscar McDonald. I can't see us signing him without moving Tom on as it would make little sense. I'd just back Tom in to get fitter next year than have McKernan on the list.

How do you know that? While I have no problem with the club seeing a future for Baker on a wing, he isn't ready right now, and the article doesn't really use any quotes or concrete info. Just a bit of assumption really. Still plenty to play out over these next few weeks.
-
Sounds like it, but you never say never. Plenty still to play out.

@dazzledavey36 here is the small part of the article you're after. I hope this is okay @Demonland as it isn't the whole article. DEES LOOK INTERNALLY AFTER MISSING OUT ON ISAAC Melbourne speedster Oskar Baker looks set to be given the chance to step up on the Demons’ vacant wing next season. The Demons were keen on Hawthorn premiership midfielder Isaac Smith but the Hawk’s decision to land at Geelong means Baker will be first in line to cement a wing position. The Demons have Ed Langdon on one wing and plan to play Adam Tomlinson in defence next year. Baker, 22, has top speed and has played 12 games in the past two years including only three last season. The Demons are excited by his capacity to help add some speed and polish on the wing but the 184cm running machine will have a big pre-season ahead of him. The Demons also spoke about North Melbourne’s Jared Polec but the midfielder’s giant salary at the Kangaroos is a hurdle to any move – unless North paid a chunk of his wage. Harley Bennell was also given the opportunity on the wing but blew a contract extension when he broke COVID-19 protocols and then refused to return to Melbourne’s hub. Mitch Hannan will depart the Demons for the Bulldogs

I get the feeling that, if most here WERE keen on getting him, you would take the opposite view point and pot everyone for wanting someone with attitude issues.

Not to mention that these things don't get reported on as much over the weekend. -
Collingwood mate of mine (and I use the word 'mate' loosely as he barracks for Collingwood) absolutely hates Stephenson. Reckons he spends more time checking his hair on the big screen than he does chasing kicks. He is already pumped at the potential of offloading him to another club.
-
I was going to post the same thing. He kicked 38 just a couple of years ago but he looks a shell of that player now.
-
Doc's been great, but we all know who #1 is.
-
I've said it many times, and I apologise to all for sounding like a broken record, but I hate Geelong with a passion. I hate Paddy Duckingfield. I hate Joel Duckwood I hate the little tip rat Gryan Miers I hate their fake tan of a coach in Chris Scott And I hate their bandwagon fans. I just hate Geelong.

If we had lost out to a bottom 8 club, then yes, you could argue that we aren't a destination club. But the bloke took the easiest route of all and went to Geelong, who just playing off in a GF. Can be hard to beat that.
-
One of the reasons I was happy to get Smith as I was hoping he would be the perfect role model for Baker to learn from over the next few years. He can just learn from Yze instead.
-
So, with Smith out of play, much of our attention may now turn to Phillips. What do we think it would take to pry him out of Collingwood? As they are happy to trade him to free up some room, would a third rounder do the trick, or would they expect more from us?
-
Well that's slightly disappointing... but there are other fish for us to potentially catch in the AFL sea. Plenty to still play out.

Do you ever sleep, dazzle? You're like a machine! -
Only thing I like re: Smith is that we get him for free. Yes, it's being mooted that we've offered him three years, but I think he would see out most of that contract and, outside a spot on the list, we haven't given up anything to get him. And while I wouldn't say no to Phillips, and I'm lukewarm to Polec, we would need to get a trade done to get them (not to mention the expensive contract Polec is on) and I'm not sure we have the picks to do it. Having said that, we will get something for Preuss and if we can flick Tom McDonald then we might get something half decent for him as well, so that might help us land someone else if Smith goes Geelong.
