Or Debbie Downer for those who watch Saturday Night Live

I agree with this. Don't think Neeld is necessarily thinking about contract renewals yet, but I think that would be something close to the plan he is aiming at. I just don't think he or anyone predicted how bad the short term pain would be.

Square Peg, Round Hole - Exactly why we need Neeld!!!!

Spot On S_T. That is exactly what I thought. -
It was Morton circa 2010-2011 i.e. lack of intensity, soft, poor disposal. Disappointing really given that he played a couple of good games a few weeks back.

With the draft already looking like 1, 2, 12, 23 (Viney), it would be hard to imagine getting too much more of a leg up. Although, the compo picks should not come into consideration when dealing out these priority picks.
-
That favourite was listed a long time ago...you have inspired to go change it make it more 'current', manchild all the way from here on in.
-
Jose, did you honestly believe we were this bad heading into the season? From the grab Gerard Whateley played of Schwab on AFL 360 from just before the season opener, Cam certainly thought our playing list was in a much better shape than it is. I think the general consensus amongst fans was that we were somewhere between 10-13, which is more than fair I think.

Poor bloke has not been given the chance to show if he is the right man, and who knows, he may never. Unfortunately I don't think there was such a thing as a 'right call' at the time, as I don't think there is a single person in the game that would be doing much better with the way this club is at the moment. Anyone who looks at Neeld, the game plan, or even individual players is missing the point, the issues seem to be much bigger than any of that.

I prefer the team copped a hammering all week in the press, it is exactly what they deserve, not that I think it would fire them up at all.

Get to the game and protest with your mouth -
couldn't have said it better myself

I heard neeld talk about Jack's urgency when discussing him playing at Casey on multiple occasions, so I think it has been a big focus.
-
I reckon we bundle him with Bate and Dunn, and maybe a club in their window would part with their late first round pick. Sorry RR, I couldn't resist. I know you love trade talk where people bundle our duds for something of worth. As for Sylvia, I think he should of started in the VFL coming back from injury, but he didn't so it is open season on him I guess. Admittedly, I have always been sucked in by him, think I even plonked a bit of cash on him 1 year for the Brownlow as my smoky, I probably would of been able to write that off at tax time as a charity donation.

This. Our backline do a good job considering the amount of ball and bodies in our defensive 50. Compare this to our opposition each week when we go forward, they usually outnumber our forwards and have acres of space to pick targets or run into space and get the ball. As opposed to Frawley and co, who are continually peppered and when they get it there are bodies everywhere making it almost impossible to pick targets.

75% of our list have gone backwards this year, but Bail perhaps a little more dramatically than most. I thought he had the tools to make a decent AFL footballer with his running ability and work rate, but not at this rate he is not.
-
It doesn't have to be your night to chase and lay a few tackles and apply a bit of pressure. I can forgive him for not getting his hands on the footy as often as he probably should, but for farks sake some of his efforts were embarrassing. You are not going to get 20 touches and kick 2 goals every week, but you sure should be able to lay a few tackles or cause a couple of turnovers with some sort of pressure.

Game night thread: Melbourne v Hawthorn
Forest Demon replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Simply put, how can other teams get so much cheap ball. Meanwhile whenever we have it, there are no options and we rely on someone pulling in a big pack mark or outworking a couple of opposition players at once, which is completely unsustainable. -
Loving the fact that those who have come in have had to string 3 or more solid games of VFL before getting a call up. Means those in the side get a couple of weeks to prove themselves, and if they don't, they know they will be facing at least 2 or 3 solid weeks in the VFL before a chance of a recall. It means the guys coming in know they have earned it and have a bit of confidence. Would love to see Jack Watts come back into the side in 2 or 3 weeks, with 15 goals and couple of BOG's to his name.
-
Sorry, but what trade table are you talking about? You do realise he was drafted to the MFC don't you? I am far from convinced about Cale, but has definitely shown promising signs the last couple of weeks.

It has got to a ridiculous stage where there are so many ex players and coaches trying to still make a living from the game, they are battling for some kind of relevance, and in doing so have to throw exaggerated and sensational comments around. Half the problem is the amount of coverage these little throw away comments get. Matthews says Hudson will be a better recruit than Clark and the next day we have a write up about it in the hun etc. Was watching the premier league a week or two back and the commentator was questioning a club, might have been villa, and he was saying in a throw away line they mustn't get on with each other, the manager etc, and I thought if that was someone like Paul Roos saying that during a game, we would have articles about it in all the local rags, robbo would of been salivating over it on 360, neelds weekly presser would be a baptism aired live on fox sports news. It has got out of hand.

I'm still happy with these 2. They were far from our worst today. Especially with Grimes, I'm not sure what more people were expecting in terms of on field performance. Unless you said pre-season that Mitch Clark should of been captain, which I didn't hear a single person say, then STFU. Worse than retrospective drafting.
-
I am a Bail fan, but time for him to have a spell with Casey. Sellar was also ordinary today, not quite sure why he played down back all pre-season and McDonald played forward all pre-season, and then come the real stuff they are both switched around. And before anyone else says it, can we not get on the 'drop Dunn bandwagon'. He has been the sub 2 or 3 times this year, so you can forget those games, and has played as a defensive forward very effectively in most other games, and if there is a more reliable kick for goal from 50-60m I haven't seen them. Not a world beater by any stretch of the imagination, but there are 5 or 6 blokes in the gun before him.
-
Yeah, not a woeful performance. Failed to win any of the 4 quarters, which shows we didn't get blown away in any particular stage of the game I guess. Without researching it, I am pretty sure we have only won 2 quarters of footy so far this year, one being the 1st quarter of round 1 against brisbane, and 1 against Richmond. (Edit: after some pain staking research, saw we also won a quarter against the Saints)
-
Not sure what Mitch Clark has done that would make anyone doubt he isn't exactly what we need up forward. I am sure he could do the job in the ruck also, but I think he has been excellent so far this season considering the minimal amount of inside 50's and the shite delivery of those entries.
-
Wow, I hadn't seen that before. That was horrible.
