MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 13
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The whole tall/small debate is stupid, if you are mobile and have strong hands at ground level then who cares how tall you are, you can play in the wet! Cant just throw talls out the window because you are assuming opposition won't mark the ball. Most AFL players are capable of marking in the wet so what you need more of clean users regardless of their size. -
What does that matter? at the very worst it will be a long winded investigation with no result then they will fine us $50k for "bringing the game in to disrepute" and everyone will move on. AFL will not punish teams unless they feel they have to and even then they wont admit to what they may or may not have done. Side note: guilty/not guilty argument aside, if that is the case then Essendon is pretty quick to push investigations on others given their punishment isn't even over!

Made no sense to me, when i watched the replay it the umpure clearly said he paid "a dangerous tackle and advantage" even though it was clearly after he kicked it. I was under the impression that you cant pay advantage before the free kick occured.
-
After what Hogan, Pettracca, Gawn and Hunt have all shown after long term/major/recurring injuries i have faith that the club knows what they are doing when it comes to long term management of our young players, Salem will be the same.

I dont know there is some real talent there. Sheed was able to break into WC's side when they were at their best, but i havent seen much of him myself, Lennon has shown glimpses at richmond but i admit seems to be a downhill skier at the moment (like the rest of that side excluding about 4). Cripps could be a future brownlow medalist if he keeps improving. McCarthy is a KPF and a gun but as homesick as they come, so skip him. Darcy Lang I really like, he does some very nice things, skillfull, never going to be an out and out superstar but keep an eye in him, he is going places (staying in that geelong side is no easy feat). Dunstan and Acres have both shown signs of being solid B/B+ players with variable consistancy. Remeber that entire draft is still very young. Alot to like from it. That being said, if he can get himself right I think we can still be happy with Salem as a pickup, he is hard and skillfull, wont ever be the very best of that draft or our best player, but he doesnt have to be. Just needs to have a full preseason and a whole year injury free.

Changes for next week v Swans
ArtificialWisdom replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hunt provides run that Grimes can't. I actually thought Hunt was among the best in the first half, he tired a little in the second but he is still young and has a high ceiling. That "spectacular" run is invaluable, we havent had that kind of pace coming out the backline for as long as i remember. Not everyone can be 30+ accumulators you need c couple of players who can have 15 touches and still have an influence. I'd like him to lower his eyes once in a while but I wouldnt want him taken out of the side. If they wanted to rest him, then sure, but with the bye coming, i doubt it -
Yeah I want to see more kicks, he makes the decision to handball as soon as he gets it even if there is no option. But anyone who can find the ball as much as him is going to be good. Is super clean and finds space where there is none, a fantastic trait. Just needs to add some strings to his bow, kicking being the first.

Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
ArtificialWisdom replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Has talent but not sure he quite fits the "compeditor" style that they are all about. I rate him but not at the same level of a Prestia. If we could get him on the cheap then worth a shot, but i would expect Brissy to ask more than what we can, well should, offer in return. They will be desperate to keep him or trade up. -
I like optimism but i cant agree with that. If we had depth as good as the top sides then naturally our best players would have to be as good which right now they are not. We have some depth which is a nice change from the none we have for the past decade but to say we is as strong as any is a bit too keen. Can garrantee there will be players at evey top 8 club playing in the 2s that would be able to get a game in our current senior team. Just a by-product of those teams having good players.

I would like a 'play' efficency stat. So if you start a play that results in a turnover your stats get effected as well as your teammates. Thinking of Tmac playing on in the first qtr trying to step around for no reason then handballing to Bernie under pressure who was tackled as he kicked, turnover, goal. Goes down as effective handball for Tom and Ineffective kick for Bernie when the fault was clearly with TMac.
-
Aside from his goal i dont think i saw bugg follow him anywhere... so if that was the case then Bugg's first qtr was atrocious Steele was alone a number of times. But take nothing away from the rest of his game he played the rest of the role very well.

Where does Chris Dawes fit in all this?
ArtificialWisdom replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Servicable, is the way to describe his game monday. Did exactly what we need him to do. His workrate was good, pressure was good and his marking was as good as I have seen from him since he got to the club. If he can play that role for another 18-24 months then hopefully the Weed will step up. Thing is his performance monday needs to be his minimum, something im not sure he will be able to replicate week in, week out. Has not shown that in his time at melbourne. Prove me wrong Dawesy! -
Not to mention 7 of Steele's touches came before Bugg put on the hard tag. Always more difficult to stop a player who has had a good start.
-
Howe left public saying he wanted to go somewhere for the oppertunity to play in a forwardline *chuckles*. As he left a club for selfish reasons he opens himself up for booing. Players who get pushed out the door, good examples are Cross, Stevie J and Crowley. All tend to get applause from their former club. Supporters are usually fair with their former players treatment and I think we are no different. Had Jamar played in round 2 I have no doubt he would have been applauded.
-
Possible, but nev works well back there because he is so strong, JKH is light and quick which im not sure is as good for a defender put him against any of the established small forwards betts, rioli and the like he will just get outbodied. We already have hunt playing the speedy rebounder role. I think JKH has more potential on a wing, a position that is still got hot competition: Stretch, Trengrove, Grimes are probably the front runners at the minute all of which he has the talent to surpass . Ik we have others like Harmes, Benken, Garlett and various midfielders rotating onto wings at different times but the first 3 play more permanant wing roles. I think Trenners is too slow for that position, he needs to be inside. Grimes' writing is on the wall in big bold letters. Finally Stretch is young and I think he's a gun but no reason why JKH cant give him a run for his money or work alongside him on the opposite wing. Give him an injury free pre-season and then talk trade/positional changes if he cant break in after that
-
Yeah that is true. Hopefully he will get there but with Jones, Viney, Vince to a lesser extent Tyson. We have the in and under types who are capable of aggression and even vince does well tagging. Kent and Harmes are both pests. Bugg is both a pest and aggressive which is good but he will need to bring some pure skill to hold his spot when there are players who have aggression and the skill to back it up. I dont mean this as a criticism of bugg he has been fantastic i mean it more as a compliment to the rest of the list. Its in good shape and role players will always be struggling to keep their spot. Brayshaw and Salem in particular are going to be very hard to keep out of the team once they are fit.
-
I love what he has brought so far. However with the likes of Brayshaw, Salem, ANB, Harmes and Melksham (debatable value but goody loves him) all not playing for various reasons. The likelyhood that we will get another talented midfielder or 2 in at the end of the year one way or another. Just makes me wonder where Bugg will fit 2017 and beyond
-
Thats going to be Bugg, Viney and CP5 they have the attitude and/or skills to drive any supporter mad

A late charge to the finals?
ArtificialWisdom replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think WC over there is the big one. They are bullies and it takes alot just to compete in perth. I want to see a statement that game. Come out and say we ain't taking this [censored] from anyone anywhere anymore! -
A late charge to the finals?
ArtificialWisdom replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
For us to play finals wins against Adelaide, Port Adelaide and West Coast are all non-negotiable and we would have to win against 1 more top side assuming all 'should wins' are won. We could just as easily lose all 4 of them alone win them all! Look forward to next year we are coming! just not quite yet. -
I think it was collingwoods new kid.. I was impressed he got up so quick, I wouldnt want to stand in the way of hogan at full pace.

Changes for next week v Swans
ArtificialWisdom replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
He is very up and down, this week he was good. I think he is a gun and will get better, but it was out of him and harmes to go. He was lucky and he came out and made sure he held his spot. Thats what we wanted to see. -

I agree 100% with that sentence! Unfortunatly you seem to be very confused about who Wagner is, he is a fantastic kick and makes pretty good decisions for a ~10 gamer! You also want to bring Michie or Grimes the latter i agree deserves a run but neither of them have as good disposal as Wagner. -

I thought he was good too -
Brown is spot on, its embarassing to think a team on the up can get a [censored] easy run to start the year like WC got last year or like the bulldogs got 7 home games to start this year, but a struggling team like brissy has to deal with the hardest start I've seen in a long time. They started well all things considered but it was always going to be a tough run, I said at the start of the year they could have been 0-8 and playing well!! On the topic of fixture oddities have look at GWS's run home they won't lose again till finals! And people still seem to think that they dont get handouts!
