I think that one change makes the most sense If Viney gets up (doubtful) could change to Viney for harmes and BenKen for Kent with Trenners to spend time in the forwardline to keep midfield rotation up. Fair day no rain? Puts big expectations on Garlett and Dawes to improve from last week. Conditions won't be an excuse if it's dry

Free to Air...are we becoming irrelevant
ArtificialWisdom replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
That statement is simply wrong, we are ranked in the 30s or worse in the world in all internet speed ratings. Just last year the Akamai State of the Internet Report ranked us as 44th globaly. We still remain below global averages in percentage with speeds above 10Mbps (what is 'reasonable internet' for this day and age and that is being lenient) Lets not even talk about upload because thats even more atrocious. Ok fair enough this will be my last post on the matter but so you know FTTP (also refered to as fibre to the home) is not a thing any more, since the liberals took over it was changed fiber to the node (FTTN) which is more or less what we already had, it offers theoretical maximums of only 24Mb/s which that theory doesnt take into account any internet traffic from your neighbours. Clearly I dont deal well with slow internet like most of my generation haha. Us youngans are a bit impatient... But we're here to talk footy so ill stop complaining. -

I wish! we wont have reasonable internet speeds within the decade. Esspecialy while the liberals continue to push their circa 1990s technology. We are embarassingly far behind the rest of the devloped world and they refused to allow google fibre to come to aus because it would ruin telstra's monopoly. There are underdeveloped countries with higher average internet speeds than us.. Mini rant aside, I would like to see netflix get into the live sport market. Their quality of service is outstanding (although very limited in australia). But given their current niche i doubt it will change any time soon. I have the NBA league Pass and that service is brilliant, HD, multiple commentary choices (imagine never having to listen to channel 7 commentary again!!), live, no ads and most importantly ON THE COMPUTER!! not this [censored] tablet/phone crap we have to deal with. I was furious with the new broadcast rights deal, it was a complete failure. Served up 0 improvement for the fans. I hate hearing people say ch7 in HD is impressive, that is embarrasing! its at best half a decade late! Yeah very true, i hope the AFL doesnt follow suit but given they are little more than prostitutes willing to sell everything for more $$$ I wouldn't be surprised if they did. -
Not super convinced, He is a ball winner, I dont like having contested midfielders forward of the play. It's taking a big threat away from collingwood. If he was an outside runner then sure that would work but not with the role he plays. If he can't play his normal role then there are plenty banging on the door for spots that deserve to get a game.

Yeah tough group to break into, i like him on the wing too but tenners and stretch are infront of him for now. I think unlike Michie, Newton hasnt quite reached his ceiling, he shows signs of being one of those "turned his career around" type players. But who knows maybe he will always just be depth, handy depth to have! I think we need a good goal kicking midfielder. We have bernie but not much else who can be a regular midfielder who can kick a goal most-every week. Viney, Tyson and Jones can kick goals when the chance arises but dont tend to do it on a regular basis. I'm hoping once he settles in CP5 will be that type. If he could kick straight Vanders would already be that. Gets in the right spot all the time just keeps missing.

Niggle Viney at your own risk...
-
I think Newton has some class, just needs to bring the same ball magnet he takes to the VFL into the AFL and I think he can be a player. He has good skills and is a very capable finisher when required. Unfortunately time is running out for him to step up at senior level. I'd like to see him get a full pre season and an injury free run at it next year. Then we can make the call. ANB has a fair bit more time (assuming he doesnt decide that he wants to take a chance elsewhere, with his VFL form you could hardly blame him)

poor Misso even when it's good news he cops it haha
-
While we didnt want to believe it would happen, i think alot of us saw that coming....
-
I hope not, i hope he can reporduce that with Viney in the team, what i like is that it looked like he took it upon himself to step up with Viney out. Signs of a strong and mature leader.

Free to Air...are we becoming irrelevant
ArtificialWisdom replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Online streaming is the future and thats a good thing! Only problem is that the EPL deal isnt accesaple to non-optus customers. If subscriptions were available at a reasonable cost to non-customers then i think it would be great for the vast majority. Fox footy will soon be going the way of the dinosaur and good riddance, why should I have to pay colossal amounts for channels ill never watch just so I can see 1/2 games a week -

Why not? there wasnt anything about telstra locking was there? they just run it.. which is why it's such poor quality, same with the afl website... and app and pretty much anything on the internet with AFL branding -
Tom McDonald (and Oscar) SIGNS.
ArtificialWisdom replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Midfielders are a dime a dozen, I would never trade TMac for Prestia. Would have to get a KPD and a 2nd/3rd rounder in return. Ik people keep complaining but he is on of the best rated young defenders going around, he would demand a big trade price. When it comes down to it, trading a mobile, tall, aerobic beast with obvious talent who is 1-3 years off his peak is just stupid. He has decision making flaws but other than that he is everything you want in a 2nd defender. We just need the first defender and the jobs done. Get the other pieces right and its funny how any players flaws start to get hidden in a good side. Some players just need talent around them Tom is one of those players. -
Nothing like blowing your own trumpet to make people not want to listen to you... that aside i think Dawes' role is vital to our structures not dawes himself. Comparitivly Gawn himself is vital because nobody can fill that void. Dawes execution of it in the past has been poor, thus i think Perderson is a better option to play that role for the time being. Ill give Dawes a pass cos of the conditions but he needs to lift monday to warent a cemented position in the side
-
Puts oscar and gawn in best of their positions not of our team. Tyson was team high score but wasnt high enough to fit in the leauge wide midfield. Either way i get what your saying and i dont think its perfect but it I just think it does a better job of any other ratings in the past... Career best to date? Of his very limited sample size that was his best so far. I would like to think he will make that his average game over the coming years. I just dont think he deserves to be copping such critisim especially after saturday
-
While it is not perfect by any means, i do believe it is the best statistical analysis going around, it is much better than the fantasy leagues which are purely based on numbers. The player ratings use things to see how each thing benifts the team. If your kick results in a player being in open space you get more points than if you kick to a contest. And if you launch a scoring attack you get more. Its good from that sense but it is impossible to get it 100% right. That aside people are kidding themselves if they think OMac didnt play well on saturday. He was not a "star" but he was solid and played his role. Unfortunate part of being young and inconsistant is people here are just looking for what he does wrong to support their arguments. Look at his possitives as well from the weekend. Reality is that against first class opponents he was good. Time to stop calling for his head and look forward to him playing again on the weekend

shhh dont say things like that! There will be a line of dark SUVs parked outside your house within minutes and we'll never here from you again.

You would if you were a hawks supporter, then it would always seem to work out nicely

I believe Roos was indicating that Grimes had been playing primarily on the wing and that would be where he played if he got in. I could be wrong but i could have sworn he said that in an interview last week.
-
could be correlation between the whole teams worst game and then wet and slippery conditions non-condusive to a small slick player like him. I dont think it excuses him but no need to claim it's his contract this soon. If he is bad the next 3/4 weeks maybe its time to start asking questions.

The only think he lacks right now is finishing. He is our worst kick for goal, particularly on the run. He just needs to finish better and he will be well on his way to being an A grader. I dont see him as much of a tease because his flaws are consistant as are his strengths, I'd say gram for gram he is the best overhead mark in the side. Kent on the other hand plays a flawless game followed by an insipid one. To me that makes him the bigger tease. Flowing with talent just cant get it right. I dissagree on your assesment of harmes. I think he has plenty of smarts, talent and class but right now he is just inconsistant. He is capable of huge pressure acts and can find a way to sneak a goal or 2 often even when he has played poorly. That kind of player is invaluble in close games, someone who can kick a goal late after having a dirty day (yes i know he missed one this week but he usually takes those chances sitting at 11.4 this year). That being said, he might deserve a game or 2 back at casey to remind him what is required but i have no doubt he has the tricks and smarts to make it with time. IN: Kennedy (he just got the same reminder harmes should get) OUT: Harmes
