Jetta and Betts pound for pound must be among the strongest blokes in the league. Both are capable of outbodying players much bigger than themselves
-
On a lighter note: Did anyone else see Hogans "celebration" after Weiderman's goal in the last? nearly knocked Weids clean over, fair to say he was a bit frustrated, given he didnt get any good delivery all day it was probably waranted frustration.
-
Is he capable of going head to head with Selwood? Just tell him to stand next to Joel and then win the ball. See how he goes. Those games were great for Viney's development. He thrives on responsibility so why not give it to him?

Line 1: Fact Line 2: Fiction We played with 8 behind the ball for the most of the first 3 quarters. So that "flood" you're talking about was our own doing. I was frustrated with Goodwins persistance but i supose when you look at the scoring "worm" we were infront most of the game so i supose he could argue it was working, despite it being horribly inefficient. He made the change for the last quarter and we won the game, best to move in I think

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 2
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not really. I never do votes until I have a chance to watch the replay so I might change my mind, but at the game I felt Jetta was good, but I didnt have him in the best. (my best are actually very close to @demon9). Just because he plays his role doesnt mean he gets a spot in the best every week, seems some just add him in because everyone loves him. His value to the team is undeniable! but it's not a crime to have him out of the best doesn't automaticly mean we think he is the worst. Really I think Oscar played his role just as well as jetts did, I dont see a single vote for him. People seem to look for the best in Jetta and the worst in Oscar. (For the record I wouldn't have Oscar in the best, but I dont think he was worse than Jetta) -
Disapointed, relieved, satisfied, frustrated or like me all of the above. It doesnt matter how you feel about yesterday's performance. This game here is how we should judge our start to 2017. I'll go into the game thinking a win is a bonus. What i want is for us to push the cats all the way to the final siren. Do that and even with a small loss we can label the start to this season as a success. If we win then our start goes from good to outstanding. But, get smashed by them again and, well... we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.
-
I should say i still believe it could work because of the numbers we would have around the ball would be too hard to counter. However, we need to be winning the ball for it to work. Because yesterday we wern't winning the ball we suffered. Max can chalk up another loss to Kreuzer and set himself for the game later in the year.

Changes for next week v Geelong
ArtificialWisdom replied to Oliver Sholem's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ins: Kent and Vince. I also want Frost in but this is were we start to run into problems... who goes out? Outs: ANB - another underwhelming performance as a small forward, Kent would be unlucky to be kept out by him. Hannan - what, really?? yeah I know, he's shown a lot. But I felt Harmes was very good today. Hannan will get more chances through the year, but Harmes came in for vince and should hold his spot on todays performance. Vulnerable: Brayshaw - Oh boy, this guy has so much talent but he seems to have good games, bad games and nothing in between. Today needed to be at least an average game, but instead he made strange decisions and looked like he ran a marathon before the first bounce, couldn't get out of a jog. Simple things like taking that mark in the last quarter takes a poor game and makes it seem so much better. Given his talent i suspect he will be given another opportunity. Players like ANB don't have the same luxury. Whether Gus plays or not next week... he needs to lift. Suspensions? I believe both Hogan and Lewis will get fines (idk if Lewis' record will cost him a week) but in the event they get a week then I would think Pedo comes in for Hogan (literally the only reason he is on the list) and it would just be Vince returning to play Lewis' role -
Was very disappointed that Goody ran with the 8 players behind the ball plan for so long. It worked last week because we had absolute control. It wasn't until 3/4 time that he finally moved it back to man on man in front of the ball and suddenly when we hacked it forward we were able to win the ball. I mentioned earlier that if we dont win the ball this game plan would be an issue and it only took 1 week for a team to counter it. Having so many behind the play with no run meant we over possessed and couldn't get any solid movement forward. Its a fantastic game plan to capitalise on max or our midfield dominance but it didn't help us today when we were being beaten in centre clearances.

What do we do about the shirkers?
ArtificialWisdom replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Now I think what he said about the players is just crap, for 1 if Garlett and Watts didn't play today we would have lost. However, today's performance was nothing to be satisfied about. Relieved is the word I would use. We got away with one. I even feel a little for the blues supporters we have watched many a games just like that the last few years. Where we were just in it without being able to get over the line. Great we got over the line but I'm far from satisfied. Bring on the cats at our new favourite ground . -

So was Oliver's, better drop him too -
I liked #myheartbeatstrue. Holds a bit more sentimental value I guess. #raisehell is short and sharp though, I like it.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think McKay has talent and would have been happy if he came to us... but in his first game seems people (not just yourself) are saying he is going to be clunking them like a 150/200 game veteran. He will be doing extremely well to finish with any more 2 contested marks for the game -
TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
More I think about it more i think your right. I think They will play Lewis full time down back with Salem going back a few times and Jones back longer than he normaly is. Tyson accompanied by ANB will play in the midfield to cover for them and Kent will slot into his usual High HF role. It will leave us pretty short but if we keep pressure up forward and force the ball to ground level down back we should be ok. -
Alot of it is also about who we surround these average ball users with. We have really struggled in the past with these 4-5 players plus another 15 ontop of that who cant hit the side of a barn. Now we have those 4/5 and the rest fo the team is players with real tallent by foot. Players like Lewis, Hibbard, Salam, Jones, Watts, Hogan, Garlett, Jetta, Stretch and even Hannan was good for a first gamer (fair judgment on bigger sample). These guys will make life easier for the few shocking kickers because the mistakes get spread out. When we had Fawley kick to Tmac to Howe to M Jones to Bail no wonder we had so many turnovers. Now we have players who split it up a bit we dont have to deal with 6 ordinary kicks in a row

Depending on their pressure act numbers depends on that matters. If they have enought pressure acts then tackles themselves dont matter so much. But if they are both down then there may be a bit of a consern.

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 2
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We need one this year. I dont care who its against but i just think we need to absolutely thump someone. I want to sit back during a 4th quarter and watch them completely embarrass somone, its been done to us more than our fair share. Have to admit I would rather it happen in round 12 could be a coach killer in that case -
Im a huge fan of both Kent and Tyson. But on Kent: with ANB, Garlett and Hannan all playing well, who goes out? He wouldnt be replacing either of Smith/Vince I would think. Do they take out the Wied and play really small? That would be a surprise for me but there are very few ways i can see to fit Kent in. Aside from dropping one of the smalls who doesnt deserve to be dropped.
-
Yeah but he usually has the option to play on to get a little extra distance or the pocket option if nothing else. Obviously Bernie takes it back off him in round 3 but I'm not too conserned for a 1 off game.

I'd guess Lewis/Salem
-
Goody has confirmed Tyson is one of the ins during his presser this morning.

2016 Player Review - # 30 Alex Neal-Bullen
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I felt like he was better in part because of the role Hannan played. It was almost like Garlett was a deep forward, Hannan was the high half forward and then ANB was a very high half forward/extra midfielder. He got in and around stoppages on the wing a few times when Hannan/Garlett were ahead of the ball. Their games made it seem ANB was off the leash a bit when it came to structure. Meant he could play his natural see ball, get ball game thats had him racking up touches in the VFL. Last year he played as a deeper half forward and was consistantly stuck in no mans land. I still have doubts he will keep the spot long term but he was good on the weekend. -
Even in last years game he at least broke even with Gawn.. Wouldn't be surprised, given his attitude, if Gawn labeled that as a loss and has again set himself to take down Kreuzer as he just did Hickey.
