Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
a lot of forwards on that interchange... -
Also to that point, Hogan is killing it wherever he goes right now and has a massive tank along with tmac. Tmac(if fit)/weed CHF/FF respectively with Hogan high up the ground/midfield is not that bad of an option at all. Bring in Hannan and Fritsch who can hit the scoreboard and I assume Lewis will return. I understand too much Hogan in the middle could be a problem for him and the team but what's so bad about having him as a link man on the wing? He has the marking and foot skills might straighten us up in transition.

I think it was the game plan. But Only when under the pump slow, it down clog it up and make it hard for them to score when we don't have momentum. We only did it alot in the 2nd qtr when we were under siege. I know Townsend helped us by missing the unmissable but other than that we did well to stall their scoring in that qtr 3 goals to 1 is much better than the last qtr when we tried to attack without momentum and got ripped to shreds.

I have a friend on the inside . It's circulated at AFL house each week so the staff all know what's going on

That might be a bit rhetorical but I have a seemingly stupid yet obvious solution... Kick Goals!! These streaks continue to be a an issue for our back half, yes. But just as big issue right now is Infront of goal. ANB, Melksham, Oliver, pettracca, harmes, Bugg have all spent large minutes in any given game in the forward line for just 18 goals this season between all of them them. God help us that of them, only Bugg averaging more than 1 in a game. We can put on all the pressure in the world but without the rewards on the scoreboard the players don't get that adrenaline rush to help them keep going. You continue to waste chances like we did in the 1st and 3rd qtrs and it gets harder and harder to keep up the pressure you get more tired more flat from wasted energy until eventually there's a missed tackle and then the opposition is out the back and all momentum lost. Our forward half defensive structure is really good but without reward it is pointless. We can't continue to play so many 'forwards' who don't impact the scoreboard. This year Melksham and Harmes have both been goalless 4 times, Oliver and Pettracca 3 each Bugg, ANB and Fritsch all twice. Time in the middle impacts Oliver and Pettracca obviously, but they should be averaging 1 each a game surely, not 1 between them. Particularly if they are going to be the rotating threats we want.. Right now there's no threat to the opposition playing then forward Hannan might be a bit polarising but the reality is he hits the scoreboard every week. Even when he plays poorly he tends to be good for at least a goal and is just about our only forward that can score in heavy congestion. Exactly the type of forward we need with our undeniable ability to get repeat entries. He certainly is not going to solve all our problems but it's a pretty good start.

I'd love to be flat track bullies... problem is we are just as likely to lose to Carlton as we are to Richmond...

Our biggest asset is our biggest weakness.. We have so many B grade players we cant fit them all in the side where as other teams need to play C graders or worse. B graders are great, they can perform well on any day but they cant be relied on to win you games. We just don't have enough A graders that perform week in, week out. Gawn, Hogan and Oliver cant just do it all alone. And our other A grader, Viney is weeks away even if he doesn't have another setback. Hibbard and Lever both should be close to if no at A grade level but are so far off their best. Until we get more players that are reliable Goody is stuck with the impossible job of predicting which 18 B/C graders will perform on a particular week. If you assume Tyson returns from illness, you could mount a case for any of Hannan, Stretch, Pedo, Weid, Hunt, Maynard, Balic, Smith x2 coming in and playing well. But it's anyone's guess who.

New Umpire and Tribunal Regimes: Hocking and Christian
ArtificialWisdom replied to dieter's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm not sure what Christian as gotten wrong... He explains every decision, and it seems a bit hypocritical to suggest that the "low impact" that got Rance and Sandy off is crap yet nobody has mentioned the low impact that means Frosty got off with a fine just cos he is in our colours. He definitely isn't the "big name" that people say you need to be to get off. Wasn't it just last year that people were complaining about these soft decisions costing people weeks? Salem was also lucky not to be sighted for bumping an injured player and as mentioned above it looked like Jetta bumped Brown high but seems to have gotten away with that altogether... Any of them would have been soft suspensions but Christian seems to be working much better at keeping players on the park unless they actually deserve weeks. The umpiring however... well I'll just say that the holding the man payed on Kent for breathing near the Roos player that robbed Fritsch of a goal has to be the worst decision of the decade. -

You wouldn't think so if he is playing as a defender... why would you weaken our defence for the time we have our best player resting.... and if Frost lines up as a forward then I'm convinced that we are tanking -

He is missing something ..god knows what. If frost is playing back as we would assume... I want to know who is gonna be second ruck? just a random mid? -

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 2
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think we can agree Tyson for Maynard makes sense. So Bugg is for Hannan and i think Bugg's aerial capability is closer to Hannan than Brayshaw's. I can see the logic. Brayshaw will play at some point, dont panic -

Every theme song will be re-done by AFL
ArtificialWisdom replied to biggestred's topic in Melbourne Demons
For what it is worth there was two new uploads to the club's YouTube channel today with what appear to be very carefully worded titles "Official theme" and a separate "rerecorded theme" https://www.youtube.com/user/DeeTVofficial -

I'm just relieved they didn't add our second verse like they did for Geelong and Port... they are pretty terrible... https://omny.fm/shows/triple-m-footy/new-footy-songs-geelong https://omny.fm/shows/triple-m-footy/new-footy-songs-port-adelaide -
Season went down the crapper after 3 consecutive 6 day breaks. So given we have no consecutive 6 days and no consecutive interstate trips I think it's a pretty good on field fixture, there are very few teams we fear now and our first half year will offer is a chance at being in top 4 contention. It's up to the club to take that chance or we might be fighting to even make it all over again. I could see us anywhere between 8-2 and 4-6 after the first 10 weeks. God help us if its the later...

I like this forward line, Melksham and Hannan have both shown some goal sense in congestion. Something that Harmes, ANB, AVB, Brayshaw, Bugg and a few of our other mids that can/have played as forwards all seem to lack. We need some of those guys in the team (and you have Gus/ANB your bench) but I think that we need Hannan and Melksham in the side until we get a decent small forward to go with Garlett. I still hold out a little hope that might be Kent, he has the talent, but the last 12 months haven't been very promising given his injury problems. Idk what DJ can achieve but id be shocked if he was in contention next year, but who knows.

JKH signs one year extension
ArtificialWisdom replied to TeamPlayedFine39's topic in Melbourne Demons
Because JKH re-signed or because the moron cant use his membership to get in and watch his potential top 4 side play on Friday -
We were pretty average for most of the night, West Coast had plenty of chances to put us away. We were slaughtered in the air and really missed Watts, Hogan and Garlett's (playing but his hammy held him back to the point he was barely there) class up forward. But we made do with what we had and just stayed in it all night. Some games are gonna be like that but if we hang in there then we are always gonna be a chance to win. Outstanding effort makes it one of the best wins of the year but they will have to play much better to beat the Swans

5th best kick in the league... not bad.
-
with only 7 a side and no centre bounces would max even be picked to play in any side??

Compared to top of the table Adelaide: Good 2 quarters: 10-0 234.35% Bad 2 quarters: 5-5 86.9% (fun fact: that is better than freos actual percentage) While their best is slightly better than ours, as you would expect for the side sitting on top, its their worst makes up all the difference. We need to drag our worst way up. Our best is pretty damn close now.
