What's happening? It's Mothers Day, getting to dusk, and we're not playing football. Is it covid again?
-
All three games today have been horrible with horrible umpiring. Skill levels way down. Suns threw it away, Giants should have sewn it up, lucky to hang on. Pies, ha ha! It will go down as the master coach Buckley outwitted the wiley, devilishly tricky Kangaroos. In fact the Kangas just can't kick or mark. Or handball. But it keeps Buckley in the job another week ... keep it up Pies!

That could well be adapted to become our signature song, if only people would get on board with that. Why would we copy some other club's tradition? We might as well stick "yellow and black" in our club song words because it's always pretty cool to hear that being roared out. While the cause is worthy, it's possible to do two things at once: admire what other clubs around the world do, and not feel the urge to grab a bit of that for ourselves. -
+1 Locking up these extensions now (Oliver, Salem, etc) is also sending a message to the playing group themselves, that this group is in it together. It's a great move for the solidarity of the playing group. Cornes moaning about Melbourne going "too early" is overlooking this essential point, which doesn't apply to clubs who weren't Neelded. One thing I will say about Cornes is that as well as handing it out, he will cop it back, without complaint and usually in good spirit. (Although that really just supports the "shock jock" theory in that it's all done for theatre.)

I think they felt like they went too hard on Carlton back in the 00's and set them (a "big 4" money generating bums-on-seats club) back too far. They've always shied away from confrontation with Eddie, so the thought of doing something like that to the Pies with him still in charge, and on the airwaves too, sent chills up and down their spines. So (reminiscent of when Demetriou just happened to call the Essendon pres and casually dropped that 'a club -- Lord, who knows which one?' was going to be raided by ASADA the next day) Gil called Eddie and said, 'gosh, I wouldn't want to be any club caught over the salary cap in 2021. Just saying. How's the wife and kids?' Draft pick order as at the end of Round 7: Richmond: 13, 14, 23, 31, 45, 49 Collingwood: 38, 56, 74, 92, 110, 128 Some old stagers are due to retire and how are they going to replace them with pick 74 & 92? It's almost as if the AFL had stripped them of draft picks.
-
They didn't want to be seen to be "doing a Carlton" to C'wood. Instead they are letting them do it to themselves. It's very sad that their fairy tale turned out to be a bloke slipping on a banana peel. But Pies fans at the time queried the recruitment of Beams, Grundy's huge $$$ when they were already squeezed for cap space, and a number of other questionable list management decisions.
-
That was always the most likely reason for the sudden panicky dumping of 3 best-22 players. That it was spun as clearing up cap space to launch a bid at a superstar some time in the future only confirmed that. This will become increasingly obvious as Pendles, Sidebottom, and a few others retire, with no-one coming through to replace them. I think it's a highly likely scenario, and the Pies (fans at least) are aware of it. They will have to go into points deficit to match, apparently.
-
There were some doozies for sure. But it was good in its day. I was asked on Kevin Bartlett's radio show which one is best (surprised he knew there were two, let alone one) and I boosted ology! Before it degraded, obviously. (Shout out to 'land mods.)

No. No-one can work it out. One of footy's mysteries.

Yeah but the other 44% don't

Remember that North had lots of incentive to poop his party. They double-and-a-half teamed him all day.
-
We have many reasons to thank you, IHW
-
Well, not trying to have a shot at you, but before his game, North's highest score was 65. Our lowest was 80. Their percentage was 45.9. They'd lost every game and we'd won every game including beating both last year's grand finalists. Their only shot was to play an ugly flooding, scragging, double-teaming, arm holding, head punching, rugby maul game. To nullify our considerable skill advantage. A bit like parking the bus. The way we used to play under Neeld to prevent 10 goals blowouts. (And we couldn't even do that.) So, in the spirit of correct and legal football barracking, North can go [censored] themselves and we'll point at the scoreboard, sing the team song, and continue to dream of glory. GO DEMONS!!!!!

A correct statement*, but nothing to do with why our percentage went down today. Rackham out. * mostly
