  1. Christ I want to see this guy with a premiership medallion around his neck
  2. Is "IN" the appropriate preposition???
  3. This is truly the dawn of a new era. How relaxing to experience our team demolishing another in the pre-season, with nothing hanging on the result, and no requirement to read the tea leaves for the upcoming home and away season. Our only problem is how to jam 30 players into 22.
  4. Jezza was one of those oppo players who was so good that you can't hate them. Their ability transcended the usual rivalries/hatred. (But don't query me on that had he played for Collingwood.) The fact that he toppled Collingwood twice ('70, '79) adds to the lustre. Bosustow, while spectacular, was a 50-goal type cameo player, not a spearhead. Kernahan played CHF, making it difficult. Ralph was beautiful, too beautiful, a bit soft in fact. The no-100-goal-scorer doesn't bother me a jot. Stats in any field throw up all kinds of anomalies, and I'd rather have the anomalous results of no 100-goal scorers than be a one- or two-flag club than a THIRTEEN BEAUTIFUL PREMIERSHIPS club.
  5. Do you take requests, Picket? Maybe a Division 4 themed report, or a Gilligan's Island?
  6. Seven (7) games and we're expecting him to play like a 200 gamer. It's good being premiers. And with a deeper list than we've seen in 50+ years. The year is 2072. Jake Bowey is at a gentleman's club smoking a cigar. Bowey: "Training facility wi' two MCG-sized ovals and one oonder coover? Looxury. I 'ad to get oop at 9AM, drive 300 mile to Casey to train, play seven matches, seven mind you, play in premiership AND I 'ad to do the 'ole finals series in Perth! An' you try and tell that to yoong people today!"
  7. So much competition for spots. I'm a bit concerned we may have to field two teams in this year's comp. The bottom 6 in the second team could be the difference between finals and missing out on percentage.
  8. Don't have Kayo so am enjoying myself following this on the North bigfooty game day thread. It's very satisfying having our team talked about like this. A couple of times we’ve been caught out going forward with turnovers because have they been pushing back hard defensively and we are getting outnumbered . Melbourne's defence is hard to beat. they've split us open now Good reality check. Stops the uncalibrated preseason chugging off. Not a bad quarter of football but we saw about 5 minutes of play from the Dees that shows the difference between the Premiers and Wooden Spooners. They are a class above and we saw it late in that quarter. They move the ball quickly we were not able too Melbourne too strong and too good for us to play silly. Melbourne read the ball ahead of what we are doing as much as its about poor execution. We stagnate we should be playing on quickly but Melbourne don’t allow it Melb numbers behind the ball and numbers in front of the ball.... We are winning out fair share of contests but the Melbourne backline is picking off everything. Melbourne with ascendency across the ground. Running with numbers, more numbers around the contest, cleaner with the footy. Melbourne are very good at smothering kicks in close How long till Round 1, 2023? They are just out working us on the spread offensively and working back a lot harder defensively. There are a lot of lessons today let’s hope we learn from them . We're getting crushed by melbs stronger mids. There are a lot of skill errors, but most of those would be because of the pressure being applied by the defending premiers. We just hemorrhaged 8 goals in a row and as soon as the pressure came we played like under 10s Their last two games were an absolute dismantling of Geelong, and then kicking 46 goals in a row to smash the Dogs and win a flag. Melbourne are really good At the ground, effort is ok skills & structure the glaring difference. Seems an odd set up with the personnel we have on the field, allowing them huge outnumber behind the ball playing into their hands. likewise around the contest their positioning is much effective, better spacing allowing clearer outlets despite what looks like an extra there for us.
  9. The Dogs would be quite chuffed at how 2021 turned out. Dogs, Demons, Dogs, Demons, bookended by thrashings. Neat symmetry.
  10. We can afford to toy with games like this, try a few things here and there, knowing a loss means jack. In past years, it was all about the process of selling hope (to the players as much as the supporters) and wins were desperately sought after.
  11. They don't want Viney to kill someone and spend the season in remand
  12. Tiges & Blues Thu nite curtain raiser DEMONS vs hounds Fri nite main event But then the AwFuL wouldn't have their opening round spread out over nearly a week
  13. The Southern Stand will be reserved exclusively for Collingwood supporters and all bars will serve free beer to C'wood members. The grateful general population will re-instate Eddie as Collingwood president for life, with 2 statues of him outside the ground.
  14. That's funny. "Bloody hell, the queue for chips is too long. Let's go to the Gabba instead." I know, it's not the average punter that they care about. But the decision makers aren't queuing up for anything, they're getting silver service in corporate boxes, so why would they even think of bars & pie stands? It's absurd. "Yessss .... we could hold the Games at the G ... in theory ... but have you seen how long it takes to get a beer?" What is driving this is the impressive sight of the WA stadium where the grand final was played. There is no "southern stand" or "northern stand". It's all one one huge circular stand with consistent levels, seating, nice steep gradient and no gaps. This is about keeping up with the Joneses more than any actual deficiency with the current stand.
  15. Matthew Scarlett would never have been "elite". Just a bloke who stopped his opponent from being elite. Every time. So CD have a guru who dreams up the characteristics of an effective player. CD put those measures into numbers. Nic Nat ends up the best player in the game and Zac Williams is elite. The next step would be for CD to query the assumptions they've relied on, or how they have translated them into an algorithm. But no. Computer doesn't lie. Nic Nat is elite and by a far way!
  16. Spies from 17 other clubs seen around the Casey oval waving crooked sticks and shouting out "Corkus Bloodufferus!" and "Plantar Fasciitis!" and "Anterior Cruciate Bustus!!"
  17. Yes, let's see LJ try this [censored] against Nic Nat! Max has been out-elited by the young gun

Well that was quick. Thank you for the speedy response. It's made a substantial improvement. I see that some of the other images down the right-hand column are pretty big too. I hate to make work for other people, but it would be tremendous if those could be dealt with too (in the fullness of time). Thank you Demonland.

Even the "The Demonland Podcast Will Return in the 2022 Pre-Season" pic (with cartoon Tracc and cartoon Demon) seems oversized.
  20. If it follows modern footballer nickname orthodoxy, it will be "Dunstany".
  21. Counterpoint: when does he hit free agency?
  22. "Flag-winning Demon" .... I stopped reading after that to go have a cognac and a cigar.
  23. Tomlinson somewhere right now: "So voodoo works!"
  24. Just shows how badly we underachieved with M. Jones, McKenzie, Magner, Petterd, etc, running around for us. Elite players are for runners up and cellar dwellers! (Not a shot at the above named players btw.)

Thank you to the people who make this site possible. It is truly a boon to us poor long suffering gloating & insufferable Melbourne supporters. One tiny gripe. The banner pictures, ie. the top one of the GF team and the "Demonland Merchandise" one ... appear to be giant images shrunk down to screen-viewable size. But the shrinking seems to happen on the fly ... they are still giant images. They seem to be downloaded anew for every page and it adds that extra 3, 4, 5 seconds, every time. Doesn't seem like much but this poor long suffering gloating & insufferable fan, buoyed by premiership success, is unreasonably impatient and wonders if the pictures could be "pre-shrunk" to give a faster response. Thank you -Mazer
