2011 Player Review - # 39 Neville Jetta
waynewussell replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like Nev, but that side-step has become predictable and clever opponents are waiting for it. Nev offers a lot but needs to develop his opposite side. I think he is good enough to take up the challenge. -
Not sure why my earlier post on this topic was lost in action but I think this deal lifts the flagging spirits of the majority of Dee supporters. Mitch Clark has been a major force in the past few BrisVegas v MFC games. I was impressed with his contested marking and athleticism. Well done to all who contributed to landing the big fish!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCH CLARK
waynewussell posted a topic in Melbourne Demons
Mitch Clark is a Demon - confirmed on the Fremantle site and MFC twitter over an hour ago. Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Mitch Clark. -
Quick, good leap, versatile, young with experience... Can only go up from here!

Fits the "hard at it", "hard at the opposition" tag that Neeld likes!

Morton, Martin re-signed; Green soon to happen
waynewussell replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think the Club will burn another skipper on the back of the angst over Junior! -
I prefer the dinner chat rumour to the SMH headline... although the SMH have been accused of phone tapping!

That gives me an idea!

My Mum works as a check-out chic at Coles, Doncaster, and she said Isaac Weetra's mum told her he was going to Sydney tomorrow to have a look at their facilities. Apparently a press conference is set for 11.00am tomorrow in Sheeds lunch-box.

Part of a thread I contributed to on Ology It is very difficult to find season stats for goals scored from free kicks. What I have found is that umpire Schmitt has adjudicated at Dees games on three occasions this year. Twice we have won when he umpired, Round 3 v BrisVegas, and Round 23 v Gold Coast. The most we have had any one umpire is 5 times. The AFL seem to do a reasonable job of rotating the panel through all teams. What I can tell you is who we have had most. We have had McBurney and Donion 5 times and Jeffrey and Ryan 4 times. In the 5 blow out games (blow out in free kicks against Dees) we have had Ryan 3 times and Donion 2 times. I'm not accusing any of these fine gentlemen of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

he got the free from the softest of taps on the shoulder. Ft Pig gave the free from off the ball. Melbourne continually get screwed by free kick goals

No... I say trade Jack Trengove. He must be worth something! Oh, hold on, we just signed him for four years... pity, because some other club would probably have given us something good for him. Well, how about Jeremy Howe? He will get dropped this week because he played like a dog against the Tiges. He isn't as good as a key forward should be in his first season. He's practically mature aged now, so let's move him on while he still has currency. TRADE PETTERD? HMPPH!!!

Richmond had four frees inside fifty in the first Qtr. One was against Howe for holding the ball which was a very poor decision on two counts (which I have already referred to). Another was given to Miller when he dived forward after a tiny bump from McDonald. We had the one where Revolt 2 pushed off from Frawley (who instinctively grabbed at Revolt to avoid being pushed out of play). That one was not shown on the replay so it could have been right. I think the other one was the fifty given when Martin received a free then handballed to Cotchin, who Batram was ghosting, then Martin tries to apply the shepherd. However, baldy decides that Bartram was standing too close to Martin and pays a fifty!!!! The umpiring assisted the early blow out but if we didn't let the win as many clearances in the first place they wouldn't have had so many inside fifties!
-
The worst part of that decision was he clearly made several attempts to punch the ball with a n opposition player sitting on his back... no prior and attempting to punch ball clear... If you don't mind you moronic excuse for an adjudicator who has a feel for the game!
-
Howe takes ball gets slung immediately 'holding the ball'. Garland takes one step inboard as Tiger begins to play on... 50m penalty. Both of those decisions were wrong and I think they resulted in Tiger goals. Just check the goals from free-kick stats. Baldy went off like a porn star with the first holding the ball decision at the centre bounce. Wasn't a free for mine.

Oh, look at that... McKenzie 14 contested possies, second only to Sylvia's 15! What a surprise... Clint, your bagging hiim for one clanger and yet I witnessed (in person Clint) more gutsy determination in and under than I have seen from any MFC player this year, including McKenzie. Give it up Clint, your just embarrassing yourself by pursuing this stupidity!
-
Clint, were you at the game? Your call to drop McKenzie is the worst one I have heard this year. Strap yourself in to the lounge chair and force yourself to watch the game carefully rather than shooting it off. Then your observation and opinion might actually be worth reading.

Aaron is one of my all-time favourites. We got a gem when we found him after he created quite a buzz at Port. I watched him up close in pre-season training at Princes Park. Couldn't believe how lightly built he was, and those skinny legs were like toothpicks. Turns out he was a Flash! I couldn't believe the grief he copped when retaliating to the taggers. He would get caught by the umps sticking up for himself and ended up reported more than once. He gradually learnt to deal with the niggle, but then he copped criticism for being lily-livered. All the while his detractors seemed oblivious to his brilliance. There hasn't been a more skillful ball-handler at the club since Robbie. Now he succumbs to injuries and loss of form and confidence... Reading the derogatory comments of some you would think he was devoid of talent or commitment. I expect to see him splatter egg all over the faces of the fickle, poisonous scribes who frequent these places. If he does not rise again I thank him on behalf of my kids for some of the most explosive bursts from the congestion, and laser-like passes to a concealed target that they are ever likely to witness.

Also thought that GL was prepared to go after Malthouse... said he thought Mick was the coach they had in mind when they said they were after the best... Also praised Clarkson

Very upbeat and positive. He was adamant that the Dees would play finals in 2012, no matter what the draw dished up. He said that we could beat Weagles on Sunday. Spoke very positively about the players in general... de-fused any rift between him and CC, heaping praise on Connolly for the spruiking job he did for the first two years of the Bailey tenure. Was very respectful when mentioning Garry, and put the tanking rumours down to his view that development meant playing players in several positions... ie Ricky as a mid. Still talked of the Demons as "we"
