What often happens is that the Club gets to sign & retain their player for a little less “guaranteed”coin than an opposition’s guaranteed offer. But then they are often asked to give the player the opportunity to earn that higher amount by hitting performance targets. For example, Angus might have signed for 6 x $750, but has the opportunity to reach $850 in any year by reaching certain targets.

All about the $ with Gus. I don’t believe he’s interested in a quick, win/win deal which gets it done quickly and leaves a bit on the table for the betterment of the Club’s TPP. Gus is all about getting the best deal he can. He’s a very confident young man with a big ego who sees himself right up there with Oliver & Petracca.

GWS is the other Club at this early stage that has approached his Management. BTW, I agree with all your points, however, please realise that a great Organisation explores every possibility as to how they can get better. Clubs talk to Managers about a lot of Players but only a tiny % go anywhere. Who knows where this will go, but I just thought you guys would like to know.

Guys, most of you will not be pleased to hear this, however, I’m going to tell you what I know. Despite the Coaches continual public support of Brodie, the Pies are keen to move him on IF they can get the right terms. Naturally, Brodie, who is contracted, will not be forced to go to a Club unless he is totally satisfied that they are a successful Club on & off the field. Right at this minute, there are just two Clubs that have had preliminary discussions with his management to get all the facts around his current contract, where his head is at, his physical condition etc etc. I can tell you Melbourne is one of those two Clubs. A lot of water to pass under the bridge, and I’m not saying at this point in time that it will happen, but I think it’s perfectly reasonable that the Dees would explore this in the likely event that Luke Jackson departs.

I don’t think Lever will get up for this week, however, if he does, don’t be surprised if Tomlinson plays CHB and Petty goes forward. If Lever doesn’t get up, then I don’t think Petty will go forward. All I’m saying is that there is discussion taking place about retaining Tomlinson to allow Petty to go forward as long as the pillars of May & Lever are there.

I believe the Footy Dept are extremely happy & positive about Van Rooyen, in fact they believe he will be a very special player, however, don’t expect to see him this year. Joel Smith is currently training as a Forward, and there is growing interest in retaining Tomlinson and playing Petty as a forward.

Two weeks ago I was told by a Player Agent based in Perth, albeit not Luke’s Agent, that the offer is 8 years at 10.3 million from Freo.

I totally agree JD. I’m not sure we can beat Geelong unless we do something different like you suggest. I’d love to see Goody get creative like trying Jackson as a big midfielder which then allows us to bring in another dedicated tall forward such as JVR or Weideman or Petty.

Hibberd SO much better than May.

Thanks Dazz. I can’t remember the Oliver post that he refers to. You seem to be far more competent with the Forum than me, so would you be able to find my Post on Oliver all those years ago so we can check the wording because I have always tried to be careful about never overstating my impeccable intel. Cheers.

I posted on here a couple of months ago that McStay was a done deal to the Pies as they want him as a Key Defender to allow Darcy Moore to play Forward. I think it will still happen, however, I believe there are now certain influential people seriously questioning their List Management team about the length & value of the offer.
-
The Club is clearly aware of his desire to go home, and realise it’s extremely likely, however, at this point it is far too early to concede and start talking trade details. The Club will not give up in their quest to retain him, however, they realise they’re up against it.

My very strong mail, and it won’t come as any surprise, is that Jackson will be playing in WA next year. The Club even offered to move his family to Melbourne recently and it was rejected.
-
Our mail is that Darcy Gardiner is almost a lock to Collingwood as a Free Agent and the Lions are the Club that is genuinely interested in Tex.
-
Christian was really sick yesterday. Couldn’t even do a very simple favour asked by his management team. Can’t believe he played today.
-
Guys, I can tell you that right now the Club is not overly confident that Luke will re-sign. Personally, I assumed Luke would certainly stay for 2/3 more years of fun, before even considering a move, however, that is far from certain. I can tell you that the absolute appropriate person within the footy Club told me today that they are only mildly confident that he’ll stay.

Would be very surprised if Selectors named Melksham as the Medical Sub in his 200th game. Shouldn’t be done and won’t be done by a Club that is getting most decisions right.
-
Only a stubborn fool continues to knock Joel Smith. Some on this site were so negative, they’re finding it difficult to face up the fact he has turned into a very good, versatile defender that now gets a game in every AFL club.

I suspect it will be reported very soon that a couple of very high profile MFC people have tested positive after attending JT’s weekend wedding.

2021 Player Reviews: #22 Aaron Vandenberg
goodwindees replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
AVB has his sights set on the Corporate world of Finance & Investment and the move to Old Xavs is tied in with a great, long term appointment at PWC. A lot smarter than he looks is AVB and he knocked back 3 strong approaches of 1 year contracts with very reasonable extension triggers to commence his Corporate career. -

Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan
goodwindees replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It’s not over the line Dazz. Bombers want AVB but AVB isn’t that keen on going there, so they’re now going harder for Dunstan. I think Dees have their nose in front but Bombers offering a little more.- 440 replies

They're talking with him & his Manager and there will be games there for him based on what I said above and inevitable injuries. It just depends on what path he wants to take. Don't forget with Jones & AVB out, there is no other inside mid depth.
-
Dunstan would be solid insurance for a Club in a REAL Window for a few years and with a Player like Viney who will probably need to have weeks off during the season and the last thing we need is to keep playing Oliver every week in the guts and have him banged up by 27 like Cripps. The Club must start managing Viney & Oliver & Pettracca in particular so they can go the full journey to 32/33. Also, I suspect the Club will back Choco in to improve his disposal

Hello Guys. I can tell you that the Dees are talking to Luke Dunstan. Don't be surprised if this happens. Essendon are making a huge play for the Gold Coast's King. If not this year, they are doing incredible groundwork for the future. Several Clubs enquired about AVB with Essendon being the most interested. Cheers,
