Weid played well, pressured with toughness and presented and marked perfectly on the wings in our finals wins. But there was an element of defensive shambles in the way he scored his goals. He's not a player that plants his feet and defends a 360 degree radius of physical space like a natural fwd like Hogan did. Heck I saw more shades of Hogan in the way Fritsch wrestled and held out an admittedly weak Carlton opponent. When has TMac jostled and taken a one hander in the space he's made for the fall of the ball? I think TMac and Weid are currently very straight line lead up run and jump players. Many clubs similarly dont have a natural gorilla fwd though, but have compensated by recruiting 200+cm lead up players that are aerially dominant due to height. Here's hoping Tmacs bulk, clean hands and athleticism can return and give him an edge in a marking contest and he kicks 40+ However we still might need to bring in that 200+cm marking forward though come end of the year and let go of one of Weid or TMac as I fear we just won't have any edge on the opposition when it comes to inside 50 marking contests. Unless Jackson fast tracks his physical gym development in the next 6 months and we back him in to come in and do an Aaran Naughton next year.

I hope TMac was taking note on how to take out the oppos best running half back when he gets in the way of a lead I want to see him physically impose himself and halve every contest at the very least ie run through a pack like Neita did when he wasn't clunking them.

There's no point harping on about an arbitrary percentage of astute observers. Only to say that you fail to take into account that DL is already a very niche small percentage of a larger group of demon fans that don't spend much time discussing and dissecting our matches, list management and coaching on a forum. Edit: So I think most people on here have to have some level of astuteness to spend their time on a niche forum reading and discussing these topics. There are very few people right now that are in the extreme category of thinking Goodwin needs to be sacked immediately. 3%? It's common knowledge that our chaos ball and poor i50 conversions required a need to slow down and assess for the best option. Could be a pointer that Frost was only traded because of contract demands and our club simply not being willing to use up cap space, rather than having an illuminated moment that we're too dumb in defense.

It's the 'slam it forward to the hotspot so often you can't lose' strategy applied to the time scale. I don't want to start a thread, but this question is for those who have heard all our players talk and watched them play. Which players, and how many of our players possess a good tactical knowledge of the game? Of structures? That know where we're breaking down mid quarter and communicate it to the more inexperienced? They don't have to be Luke Hodge on ch7 explaining everything that's going on, as he has an elite understanding. But something approaching that kind of logical way of thinking. Do we have a dearth of these types?

Credit where credits due then. I personally was more of mid 2019 "We can trade him for Brad Hill" typa guy. And the usual fools scoffed at it.

You're assuming it was a wasted lockdown role and that Harmes could've nullified Cripps though. Maybe Cripps gets off the chain on Harmes in the first quarter, it's closer at QTR time AND then he dominates up forward when it's too late and we move Oliver onto him. We don't win by 6-8 goals, we lose. Oliver beating him in the first half is a win.

And as ruthless an attitude it is to have the premiership or bust attitude, I value those memories of going to the footy and enjoying our Daniher coached teams that ultimately fell short. Club has to make a move on a coach at some point. My only point is that failure in both 2020 and 2021 to save on a big payout, is far less palatable than just taking a risk on a new coach and turn around that brings a financial winfall along with it. We all want to see on field improvement, maybe it will only come with a new coach.

Where in the rulebook does it say a sacking of a coach sets you back a number of years? How did the Saints go after they sacked Grant Thomas? Freo after Mark Harvey? Ever heard of the sunk cost fallacy? Sometimes a coach can only take you so far.
