I was in some fancy hotel in the city with a bunch of footballers including some then-soon-to-be AFL players and a former Brownlow medallist, funnily enough. Also spent some time in Margaret River on that trip.

Dangerfield Approached to Join AFL Commission
Mach5 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’d say this is fairly obviously a primer, as to take this at face value it’s preposterous. Gil & Goyder would have pontificated on appointing Dangerfield to the board upon retirement, lamenting that it’d be widely seen as too soon. How do we make that more palatable? Propose doing it while he’s still playing. It’s absurd and would never eventuate, but framing it in such a way makes a quick transfer once the bails have been removed far more acceptable to the masses. Can’t stand the suggestion though, the bloke is a pill. -
I agree with him, but doubt I would have at the same age. Each to their own, but I wouldn’t be going there for the bars. And good luck finding anything open on a Sunday.

Just facts darling. The point is, the prevailing attitude from the residents was there is bugger all to do in Perth.
-
I recall being in Perth for the first time about 20 years ago (around the same age as a young AFL draftee), and when we asked locals of the same age bracket what there was to do around town the common response (particularly from females) was “have sex and do drugs, not much else to do here.” It was like it was a tourism slogan, but it definitely seemed the case from a young persons point of view. Cant imagine it has changed that much.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Mach5 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I see a bit of Toby Green in him. Running is exceptional, just keeps following up to stay involved. Hits targets, great evasion, stands up in tackles. A lot to like. -
My primitive understanding of the Lisfranc would indicate Goodwin was telling fibs when he said the previous injury was a Lisfranc, considering the turnaround time on the injury. Unless exceptionally minor.

Some in the media seem to have made a case that if Grundy were to go to another club, then Collingwood would be absolved if their obligation to pay a portion of his salary. I can’t see how this is correct. It’s a terrible clause to allow to be written into the contract, if that is the case. Bordering on a sackable offence. The implication being that we’d then need to negotiate paying a portion of Grundy’s full salary just to move him. As unlikely as it is, if it is in fact somehow true, this would make us much more unlikely to agree to a move away.

I would, I’m just nervous that my uneducated opinion is probably wrong. I’d think pick 4 & 7/8 would do it. Thinking we’d get 7/8 from GC for a collection of 2nd rounders. I think giving up much more might be a bridge too far.

Would probably save us from ourselves if it were the case. Could easily live to regret parting with the requisite picks once the potential is realised for the eagles.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Mach5 replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
I stopped reading at “Jon Ralph.” Seriously, that’s like Port’s haul of Rozee, Butters & Duursma in one fell swoop. Or even our own Jackson, Pickett & Rivers. -

Also so GC’s pick slides up to 6 or 7, making it more realistic for us to attain. -
My uneducated concerns with HR are that he’s a man playing against boys, and the tank/willingness to run hard both ways. I do like the look of Duursma, but his performances this year have been lacklustre. He gives the impression he could go on build up his body & exclipse Reid in a couple of years. He could also be Cale Morton. Hopefully we get this right.

*cough* a précis would be welcome

Tentatively on an extended interchange, at that.

Gresham would spell trouble for Bill Laurie. Questionable disposal at times & has exhibited some very selfish behaviour at times (or self-preserving) but his agility & evasion can be elite. I think he’d cost more than we’d want to pay however.

Not sure why anyone seems to be worried about Gawn & JVR against the Roos. It seems to me like a relatively risk free opportunity to test JVR against a decent ruck opposition. Gotta find out if he’ll be up to the task against quality opposition in the finals. I still think Grundy will have a part to play in the run at a flag.
-
Makes more sense. At least it’s within their own framework. A freak occurrence of backtracking on their new-ish NGA rule doesn’t make much sense.
-
I won’t care if we get pick 1. A lot of water to go under the bridge.
-
Himmelberg’s decisions helps us considerably - 1 less compensation pick to worry about, that surely would have been a first rounder. My mail from inside North is that they don’t know what they’ll get, but don’t expect a first round compo pick for McKay. If he goes to Essendon it’s not for the big bucks it would take to get into that compo band.

Has some good long penetrating kicking, but so far is proving to be a good ordinary footballer. You need some of those, but I think we’ve probably got a few spares in that regard. Shame cos he seems like a good kid. Hope he gets a fat contract elsewhere.

Just had a box arrive from work. Yet to plug it in, but the packaging is a bit like Apple. Must be good!
-
Pick in the 20s? He’s a free agent mate!
-
I’d think JVR wouldn’t even be the first West Australian the eagles would ask for. More likely they’d chase Rivers.
-
I’d think McKay would be very happy to be assessed as being the same quality as May. Reports of McKay’s competency are a gross misconception.
